To think people saying "stop moaning about the weather" need to fuck off?

I'm heavily pregnant, pale, ginger and really suffering. I'm sure there are people struggling more than I am though. I'm in London where it's expected to reach 32(?) today.

Not everybody can cope well with this heat and humidity. The met office has issued extreme weather warnings yet some people think we're supposed to be grateful for it.

AIBU to think those people need to fuck off?

I feel for you. I was pregnant during the 2018 heatwave, it went on for weeks and DH would put the bed sheets in the freezer every night and I’d often sit with my feet in a bucket of ice! It’s horrible.

I’m quite heat intolerant tbh, it makes me feel faint and nauseous so I do struggle with it. I’m just grateful it never lasts very long here.

BrandNewHeretic · 21/07/2021 11:44

@LetItGoToRuin

Moaning about the weather is one of the things we Brits like to do. Not a problem.

I sympathise with you living in a city centre flat and being heavily pregnant. I don't really think being pale and ginger have anything to do with it though, unless you're forced to be out in the sun all day.

My kids are pale and ginger, and it means they're stuck in the house because even with the highest factor of good quality suncream and hats, its not safe for them outside in this kind of sun, they'll burn in minutes. Which, as you can imagine, is making them even more miserable!
SupermanWithTheGreyHair · 21/07/2021 11:47

I feel for you OP. I really don’t enjoy this heat and being pregnant when it’s hot can be really uncomfortable. The year I had my son was a really hot summer and I felt so miserable. I cancelled a weeks annual leave so I could go into my air conditioned office.
Keep wetting your skin whilst sitting with a fan on really helps.

My eldest is the same. It's horrible for him. I really feel for your DC Flowers

Complaining about the weather is an important social lubricant in British society. It provides the perfect throwaway comment - how hot it is, how wet it is, how it hasn't rained since 1972 or how you're building an ark back home - for those acquaintances you pass in the street often enough to need something more than "morning", but don't know well enough for an actual conversation.

Weather is one of the few neutral, universal experiences for everyone in the same area, and a lighthearted weather comment is one of the safest things you can say.

dottiedodah · 21/07/2021 11:53

Well I for one am with you here. I have very fair skin and can burn my arm just driving along! Of course we want a Summer ,but a normal one of around 20/21 something like that please!Every job seems to take ages and I am soaked through just getting some sodding shopping! We are on SC so similar temps here.Only a couple of says left and we can cool down!

Kokosrieksts · 21/07/2021 11:54

I get annoyed with people complaining about the heat, especially if they are the same ones complaining about the rain. Get an air con and stay indoors as much as possible.

Queenoftheashes · 21/07/2021 11:55

If you’re moaning about people moaning about the weather, you’re still moaning and therefore just as annoying. And OP is moaning about people moaning about people moaning about the weather… I don’t care I like moaning. But it’s all a bit pot and kettle.

melj1213 · 21/07/2021 11:55

Complaining about the heat doesn't change it and it just gets wearing listen to people complain about the same thing repeatedly after a while.

I live in a first floor flat, windows almost all on the same side (I live on the corner so I have one window on the other side of the corner) so no way to have a cross breeze and my flat is a lovely cool temperature because I have been doing everything to keep it cool.

Overnight the windows are open to let the cool air in but as soon as I get up I close all of the windows and keep the curtains closed when the sun is on them to keep the heat out and they will stay that way until later in the day when it gets cooler again and I will re-open the windows to let the cooler air in again. I have a fan but it tend to only use it as a boost to improve the air flow when I've been outside and I need the blast of the fan to help cool down quicker.

ilovesooty · 21/07/2021 11:57

@DappledThings

If I never got the chance to experience temperatures over 23 I'd be a bit fucked off with people moaning I would happily never see the far side of 22 degrees ever again
I'd be delighted if it was never below 22. We're all different.
Anonymouslyposting · 21/07/2021 11:57

I agree OP, it’s lovely to have a bit of sun during the day but 25 degrees is about my limit and the night is hellish. It didn’t get below 29 in my room last night so my poor teething baby hasn’t slept, is sweating and is consequently a nightmare today. Can’t wait for it to cool down.

EmeraldShamrock · 21/07/2021 12:00

People moan about the weather all year.
It cheers most people up.
Like that if I had control of the weather I'd like a cool breeze in the evenings.
My fluffy socks and house coat is abandoned.

Get a basin of iced waters with a damp towel across your neck.

MissJeanBrodiesprime · 21/07/2021 12:01

It’s unusually hot and I feel for you OP but how is complaining about the weather going to change anything?

SlothinSpirit · 21/07/2021 12:07

Put your feet in a bucket of very cold water.

This does actually work. Not sure it's any good for you, OP, unless your flat has a garden with some shade, but I've been working sat in the paddling pool since yesterday (apart from zoom meetings, obviously) and just about to get out since I'm now cold. London area also. Maybe try the bath?

Still hate the heat. My small gremlin isn't sleeping and keeps crying for 'Mummy' so, whenever I do drop off, they wake me up with their moaning. I was woken up over 10 times last night (stopped counting).

Borisjohnsonshairbrush · 21/07/2021 12:11

Can I complain?

I don't have a garden and I'm stuck in with a cast on my leg which I can't get wet, therefore cant even have a proper shower .

IveGotASongThatllGetOnYNerves · 21/07/2021 12:12

Cold water on your wrists also helps. Any place the veins are closer to the surface. Neck, armpits, groin, etc

Goldielow · 21/07/2021 12:13

Such a weird brag for people to come and say "it's not even hot" ok? Well done?
I moan about the weather all the time because I hate being too hot. I'll complain constantly because it makes me miserable. If people don't want to hear it, they don't have to listen! Grin

Mrstreehouse · 21/07/2021 12:13

I’m loving it. Really annoying that all year people complain about not having good weather, then we get it for a week and everyone is annoyed about how hot it is..🙄

happymummy12345 · 21/07/2021 12:16

I hate the heat, and I’m extremely sun intolerant so I hate the sun as well

If I’m ever fed up with the heat I just remind myself that it will never be as bad as 2015. In the heatwave we had in august 2015, I was 9 months pregnant (due date was 30th august). Being 9 months pregnant in a heatwave was the absolute worst. So if I coped with that it’ll be fine.

ChrissyPlummer · 21/07/2021 12:17

I appreciate that in your position you must be very uncomfortable. However, where I am (Gtr. Manchester) we pretty much have rain/damp/cool weather year-round. I don’t love working in it, as my uniform is far too hot but at least I’m not having to put 5/6 layers on and buy multiple hot chocolates to try and stay warm. I do like that it’s sunny and warm and look forward to my days off so I can wear appropriate clothing and have cold drinks and ice cream.

I think if we had proper summer weather like this more often, then people wouldn’t talk about it as much, it would just be a fact of life. But we don’t. So I enjoy while it’s here!

SoupDragon · 21/07/2021 12:17

YABU. Those constantly moaning need to fuck off. It's fucking tedious.

theleafandnotthetree · 21/07/2021 12:19

@CigarsofthePharoahs

All the people who moan about people saying it's too hot are the same people who moan all through winter about it being cold.
That may be the case with the people you know, but I definetely reserve my complaining for excessive heat, I am perfectly content with any other type.
wordsareveryunnecessary · 21/07/2021 12:21

YANBU. Too hot to do anything.
Inside for a few days with teen Ds as we don't want to be on the bus in this heat and all activities would be unbearable

BiBabbles · 21/07/2021 12:22

This has been on various social media and forums, with some giving tips on ginger care Grin. My ginger spouse posted on how very important it is to ensure supplies of ice cream and to be well watered through this time of need... (ice cream and milkshakes were about all the worked with my hot flushes during a heat wave a few years back).

As others said, moaning, moaning about people moaning, and moaning about people moaning about people moaning are all well established British traditions and really, all telling people to stop seems to do is make them do it more. It can be draining when someone is very sour and goes on and on (whether about the heat or about people complaining about the heat), but most I'm finding are doing it with some good humour with the frustration heat can bring - especially with hormones on top whether hot flushes or pregnancy (I've an August and a September born, with the latter I lived in a bedsit with one entire wall a window until just before he was born, I was a miserable puddle).

To think people saying "stop moaning about the weather" need to fuck off?
