To think people saying "stop moaning about the weather" need to fuck off?

I'm heavily pregnant, pale, ginger and really suffering. I'm sure there are people struggling more than I am though. I'm in London where it's expected to reach 32(?) today.

Not everybody can cope well with this heat and humidity. The met office has issued extreme weather warnings yet some people think we're supposed to be grateful for it.

AIBU to think those people need to fuck off?

Pregnant and pale here, too.

I caved and bought an air con unit. It's the best thing I've ever purchased.

CrouchEndTiger12 · 21/07/2021 11:21

Please do as I suggested in my OP, you patronising get.

What's a get 😃😃😃😃😃😃😃😃😃

Pathetic

BunnytheFriendlyDragon · 21/07/2021 11:22

Well it's ok to not like the heat but not great to go on about it so probably fair enough to ask people to stop moaning!

VladmirsPoutine · 21/07/2021 11:22

How did such an innocuous thread descend into this Confused

IveGotASongThatllGetOnYNerves · 21/07/2021 11:22

People should be free to moan about whatever the hell they like.
Pollyanna types can fuck off. That's what they can do. 😁

Ifailed · 21/07/2021 11:22

It was 35 in my garden yesterday
I doubt very much if the air temperature reached 35, unless near to a wall which had been heated by the sun.

Buccanarab · 21/07/2021 11:22

It is worse for me because I live in an overinsulated poorly designed house.

Sounds to me like your insulation is doing exactly what it's meant to do.

Massive windows + insulated walls/roof/floor = bad design.

IveGotASongThatllGetOnYNerves · 21/07/2021 11:23

@VladmirsPoutine

How did such an innocuous thread descend into this Confused
Maybe it's the heat
Northernsoullover · 21/07/2021 11:23

I forgot to add, when I lived in the canaries I never had trouble sleeping. I didn't have air con but I had shutters, marble floors and there were canopies on the windows that faced the sun.

CrouchEndTiger12 · 21/07/2021 11:23

You're angry because people like weather you don't. Jesus christ.

tallduckandhandsome · 21/07/2021 11:25

YABU to tell anyone to fuck off, OP.

What is it with everyone wanting to be as miserable as they are.

Is anyone knocking on your door telling you to stop moaning? No! So you do you and let others do them

CounsellorTroi · 21/07/2021 11:26

@CigarsofthePharoahs

All the people who moan about people saying it's too hot are the same people who moan all through winter about it being cold.
I don’t mind the cold because you can do something about it. It’s difficult to stay cool and comfortable in these temperatures unless, as pp have said, you have air con and a pool. Or you live in a big stone house with small windows that keep the heat out.
MistyGreenAndBlue · 21/07/2021 11:28

@CrouchEndTiger12

You're angry because people like weather you don't. Jesus christ.
That is NOT what the OP said. Do you struggle with reading comprehension?
vivainsomnia · 21/07/2021 11:28

I respect that the temperature is tough for some people, why can't you respect that some people love it and indeed feel much happier when it's nice and hot?

I find your title quite offensive.

tallduckandhandsome · 21/07/2021 11:29

@CigarsofthePharoahs

All the people who moan about people saying it's too hot are the same people who moan all through winter about it being cold.
No, most of us are rational and deal with the weather whatever it is, bar illnesses/disabilities.
Sunshineandflipflops · 21/07/2021 11:31

I love Summer (although we rarely have one to speak of) and hate winter. Like proper hate it and get quite down with the dark mornings, dark nights and nothingness weather (would happily take very cold/snow over nothingness).

So this is lovely and i wish it were sticking around for longer but I'm not pregnant, don't have to use public transport and i have a garden so I acknowledge that it's different for everyone.

My love for open water swimming is coming into its own right now (not so much my running though...)

Rabblesthecat · 21/07/2021 11:32

I’ve just arranged for four air con units to be fitted to the house. Not portable ones but the proper fixed ones you get abroad.

Enough is enough but the best six grand I’ve spent!

SirenSays · 21/07/2021 11:34

I love this weather ❤️

RowanAlong · 21/07/2021 11:34

Yes, being sticky and sweaty and desperate for shade isn’t for me either! You’re not unreasonable.

pleasedonttextmyman · 21/07/2021 11:35

EVERY single summer people moan as soon as there's a bit of sun.
We need sun.

We do have stupid houses and flats (as was the subject on another thread), no shutters, nothing against the weather (hot or cold).

I do find the hysteria about fans (who do nothing but move hot air) and the need for "air con" in England a bit ridiculous.

Put your feet in a bucket of very cold water.

pleasedonttextmyman · 21/07/2021 11:36

It's a refreshing change from rain and miserable weather, and people complaining they can't go outside because it's too wet or too muddy.

Sun is good for you! (in moderation...)

Kids would be plagued with rickets if we didn't have the few days of summer we get.

Veros · 21/07/2021 11:41

EVERY single summer people moan as soon as there's a bit of sun. We need sun.

I don't moan as soon as there's a bit of sun. I struggle with heatwaves, big difference.

My OP was inspired by a debate on Jeremy Vine. People were calling in saying everybody should be grateful for this weather, it's marvellous etc.

My point is that it's not marvellous for everybody and many of us struggle with it due to health, pregnancy, etc.

I have no problem with people enjoying the weather, my issue is a handful of those people thinking we should all be thankful for it when for a percentage of us it's really quite hard to cope with.

OP posts:
Onandoff · 21/07/2021 11:41

I don’t get the love for it in the UK. Everyone looks sweaty and grim. The problem is we get terrible humidity with heat. I coped fine in 40c dry heat overseas but am a dripping mess at anything over 22c here. And none of our infrastructure accommodates it, we have tin can sealed public transport, limited or no air con in shopping centres or offices, tarmac and concrete everywhere, houses are carpeted with big windows and rarely have stone surfaces or air con. Cars billow out heat and fumes. It’s all grim.
I bought a house with air con after years of suffering and it’s amazing.

PandemicAtTheDisco · 21/07/2021 11:44

What can you actually do about it?

I've invested my holiday money into air conditioners.

I have been having cold showers and baths. I have a wet flannel on my head. I mist myself with water.

coogee · 21/07/2021 11:44

I do find the hysteria about fans (who do nothing but move hot air)

Fans work because they move the hot air. The moving air increases the rate at which sweat evaporates from skin, so people stay cooler.
