To ask if anyone is actually enjoying this weather?

I have felt sick and tired all day. Can't get comfortable, didn't sleep last night etc. Is anyone actually enjoying it as I am certainly not. Dreading work tomorrow also.

No I don't, I would imagine not many people do.

But it's so drummed up in us to enjoy the sun and the heat and if I see another weather presented saying "a glorious day" I might actually contemplate murder.

GrumpyMiddleAgedWoman · 20/07/2021 08:14

Absolutely loving it. I'm the sort of person who goes and digs her allotment when everyone else is wilting.

It's some compensation for being cold and miserable at work from October-June due to the doors and windows being open for Covid ventilation.

DynamoKev · 20/07/2021 08:33

YANBU This weather is shit but it won’t be going on long. We were really fortunate to have planned a weekend away some time back so we were able to have time at the beach and cool down in the sea.

rantymcrantface66 · 20/07/2021 08:36

I don't think heat haters understand that those of us who really feel the cold need the ambient temperature to be warm. An extra jumper or a hot chocolate just doesn't cut it if you are chilled to the bone.

This, it's so nice to be able to sleep and sit around with bare arms and feet for a change (although I did still have socks on last night)

An ambient temperature is around 20-25 degrees. That I like, it's 30 degrees I don't like (with humidity, no pool or beach, aircon etc).

@SpongeBarb you misunderstand. An ambient temperature is just the surrounding air temperature of a room or wherever you are. That might be your ideal but it's not mine. I can't take my socks off til it's over 25c 😆. I do have a beach down the road though and even when I lived abroad I didn't use air con, not even when it hit 45c and the humidity could be far worse. Restaurants had to take seat cushions inside between customers in July and August or they'd be wet through in the evenings. You'd need to use your windscreen wipers before you could drive your car and a walk to the shop would see a layer of visible water on your skin.

I have woolly socks on and a cardigan this morning!

North Pole ?

I really dislike this heat. Our house is boiling and we've tried all the tricks in the book bar air-conditioning (because we don't have it) to cool it down. The coolest room in the house (DS's bedroom) is 28 degrees. Our garden has next to no shade from 12pm until 8pm. We have a paddling pool set up for DS, but it's so sunny that he's burning despite sun cream and a hat.

I come from Canada where while it's hotter than this in the summers, most homes have air conditioning and basements. To me, UK heatwaves are akin to torture.

Dollpiglet · 20/07/2021 09:16

The radio keeps telling me the met office have released their first ever extreme heat warning and it'll be 33 today. But two years ago we had 37 - I remember, I was heavily pregnant Hmm so is it that theybe just started these warnings?

The only way this could be true is if extreme heat warnings are new. We've definitely had hotter temps than 33 on many occasions.
BatshitCrazyWoman · 20/07/2021 09:29

@Ahhbiscuits

Absolutely despise this heat. It actually makes me feel depressed. July and August are my worst months of the year and I dread them completely. To the point where I have a whiteboard in my kitchen counting down the days till 1st September.. Blush
Oh I know how you feel; I love autumn and winter, spring is okay if it's mild, not 25 degrees in March 🙄 Not keen on hot weather and never liked it as a skinny child. I hate it more now I'm a (slim) adult (mentioning my size as a PP implied those who hate it are overweight). It's definitely hotter and the sun feels more intense.

It was 32 here on Sunday, similar yesterday, and quite humid. I get a headache and lose my appetite ...

Love cold weather, and don't really feel the cold that much!

Sagealicious · 20/07/2021 09:31

I'm not in the UK (Australia) but I love heat. Anything below 20 degrees is cold to me. 20-25 degrees is OK, getting warm, 30-35 fairly hot, 35-40, it's now hot and over 40 the air conditioning goes on and I stick my head in the freezer every few minutes.

rantymcrantface66 · 20/07/2021 09:37

It's ironic that there's another thread running about how rubbish the weather has been and Uk holidays have been ruined by it because it was grey and cold. 😆

It's not, really. The weather is either grey and rainy or unbearably hot. There seems to be nothing inbetween now.

rantymcrantface66 · 20/07/2021 10:05

People here are saying they prefer rain though and are counting down to the rainier months 🤷🏼‍♀️. Not that is the rain I've seen the complaining about just cool and grey. It's unlikely to be below 10c in July after all

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 20/07/2021 10:07

Yes, they prefer rain to the extreme heat we're having now. I bet they would be whinging if it was 24 degrees.

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 20/07/2021 10:07

wouldn't, sorry!

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 20/07/2021 10:08

It just we go from winter to hell in the space of a week.

MistyGreenAndBlue · 20/07/2021 10:11

Roll on Autumn.
That is all. Wink

dementedma · 20/07/2021 11:24

Loving the sun and the heat. We suffer most of the year with cold shitty weather so I’m not going to whinge about some sunshine for a short time.

CSIblonde · 20/07/2021 12:10

Only enjoying it as I don't commute any more. People drop like flies on the tube when it's like this . I learnt from last heatwave to have all windows open, blinds closed & 2 fans on all day long: 1 for me & 1 for the cat .

Cottonheadedninymuggins · 20/07/2021 12:24

Hating every second of it. I have a health condition where my nervous system makes me overheat all year round. Even when it's deepest darkest winter and snowing or raining I'm in a cardi or hoodie at best, no coat or hat, Scarves or gloves.

This heat is making me physically unwell. I'm vomiting and even sitting is making me pour with sweat. I'm currently in essentially a bralette and cycling shorts and I'm dripping with sweat from sitting still in front of a fan.

this is why I hate summer/the sun. Its unbearable right now.

elprup · 20/07/2021 12:31

Only 2.5 more days to endure before the temperature drops significantly Smile

SlothinSpirit · 20/07/2021 13:09

I'm working from the paddling pool today. I recommend it. A garden chair makes an excellent makeshift desk.

tallduckandhandsome · 20/07/2021 13:26

I love it, closest thing to a holiday I've had since 2019.
