Reporting someone for failing to isolate

WouldYouShouldI · 17/07/2021 00:44

Under what circumstances would you report someone for failing to isolate? Would you report any breach, no breach, or would it depend on circumstances?

I've been told by a friend that a family member of theirs (should be isolating because someone they live with has tested positive) is not isolating, and is even going out to work- and they work with vulnerable people in a medical environment!

Should I report them regardless of the possible consequences on my friend (who will be blamed if they get caught)? Or encourage my friend to do the same, again despite the consequences?

I'm torn!

@LittleBearPad

I have always cared about people dying, I'm sorry if you haven't I guess?

Really? All people? What form did this caring take? What did you do to show you cared.

Yes any time I have a flu or a cold I would absolutely stay at home, that's how I was brought up. But covid is not comparable to the flu anyway and I'm sick of the comparison being made.

Again really? Every sniffle meant you stayed home. I don’t believe you.

Totally agree - i hope anyone who claims to "care about all people dying" isn't ever going out in the car, or drinking alcohol, or crossing the road.

This "iM SuCh a GoOd PeRSon" mantra some people convey because they are able to afford to isolate, in a nice house with a garden, and judge others whose circumstances they don't know shows they aren't as nice as they think they are

Streamingbannersofdawn · 17/07/2021 10:39

"Ive been told by friend..."

You've answered your own question there.

It was reported recently that the health service want double vaccinated staff exempt from isolation to relieve the staffing crisis...

UKSub · 17/07/2021 10:40

And before anyone tells me ‘well you can afford it’, that’s not strictly the case. I don’t think DH gets paid and I work freelance and haven’t been able to do a thing. I’ve missed deadlines, I will lose out on future work because of this. I imagine We will be taking a big financial hit for all the time off we’ve had to have.

FrangipaniDeLaSqueegeeMop · 17/07/2021 10:51

@unwuthering

I'd like to strap quite a few of you down and make you watch all 26 episodes of "The World at War," so you would shut the hell up about the situation the world is dealing with now with Covid and what happened in Nazi Germany and elsewhere. It is a shameful, despicable comparison.

Bleating about yourselves as if you are in a comparable position to the Jews in Nazi Germany is tone-deaf, stupid, and to my mind reinforces my observation that there are a tremendous number - more than I could ever have imagined prior to this pandemic revealing so much about 'human nature' or in many cases 'inhuman nature' - of low-intellect sociopaths and narcissists in the adult population currently, and god help the next generation who are being guided by such.

Who has actually done this?

Nobody said it was comparable. Nobody. People have drawn parallels, that's all. You need to calm down

@FrangipaniDeLaSqueegeeMop what do you think drawing parallels means, and why do you think it's not a type of comparison?

FrangipaniDeLaSqueegeeMop · 17/07/2021 10:53

Im confused, who's making stuff up?

@minatrina you are, with your embarrassingly smarmy "oh I don't know drug dealers but if yooooou dooooo that says a lot about you" drivel

amission · 17/07/2021 10:53

MN is an eye opener to the amount of people unable to grasp simple ideas

But working freelance comes with risks like that, wether it's COVID or another illness!

What part of that am I supposed to have made up?! You think it's inconceivable that somebody doesn't know a drug dealer? 🤣

I'm not your English teacher, Google the difference if you must, I'm not replying to an obtuse post asking what the difference is.

minatrina · 17/07/2021 10:57

@FrangipaniDeLaSqueegeeMop I'm not asking what the difference is, I'm asking why you don't understand that drawing parallels between something is quite literally comparing two things. That's what that means. I don't know what you don't get about that.

The irony.

Antwerpen · 17/07/2021 10:58

@Ylvamoon

So they are going to work? Possibly because they will not get paid for isolating?

Let it go.

So that makes it alright then? Hmm

I didn't want to point it out but I'm glad you see it too 🤣

Erm, no, you know perfectly well you accused ME of knowing drug dealer and had a little chortle about "the kind of person I am". That's literally making something up.

But you knew that.

Because there is a difference.

newnortherner111 · 17/07/2021 11:02

In the situation you refer to OP, yes without hesitation. Unless I knew a report had already been made. I'd hope I knew the person to be able to tell them myself.

I'd be reluctant if it were someone going to buy milk and other perishables who wore a face covering and went at a quiet time, not otherwise going out of the house, for example.

UKSub · 17/07/2021 11:02

@FrangipaniDeLaSqueegeeMop true, but this is the first time I haven’t been able to work through an illness and we usually would have DHs salary to back it up. I don’t know how the sick pay works in this case, we will have to find out when he gets back.

But glad that’s the only point you picked up from everything I said 🙄

FrangipaniDeLaSqueegeeMop · 17/07/2021 11:02

@minatrina ok you are seriously boring me now, and I won't waste a sunny Saturday explaining basic concepts to obtuse posters who wilfully misunderstand pretty much everything.

Have a lovely day ☀️

Okay my sweet have a lovely day and I hope you get better at coherent arguments soon 😘

jihhy · 17/07/2021 11:03

Is that a flounce?

AntiHop · 17/07/2021 11:04

Showing care to your community, and especially the vulnerable in your community, is not fascism in my book. Allowing selfish dickheads to endanger others because you are worried someone will call you a "dobber" is frankly pathetic. Nearly as pathetic as doing it in the first place.

I completely agree with @nancywhitehead and @Stompythedinosaur

Comparing a public health crisis, where one person's actions could lead to illness or death, to fascism is ridiculous and offensive.

Indoctro · 17/07/2021 11:06

No way would I report anyone for anything

This has gone on long enough, they are double vaccinated they shouldn't have to isolate , they have done there but for the world now it's time to get in with life

I don't care if they can still catch it

We can't live hidden forever

Flu kills people, and we vaccinate against it. No one is forced to isolate then.

Covid is going no where we need to learn to live with it and accept people will still die from it like they die from many other things.
