Reporting someone for failing to isolate

WouldYouShouldI · 17/07/2021 00:44

Under what circumstances would you report someone for failing to isolate? Would you report any breach, no breach, or would it depend on circumstances?

I've been told by a friend that a family member of theirs (should be isolating because someone they live with has tested positive) is not isolating, and is even going out to work- and they work with vulnerable people in a medical environment!

Should I report them regardless of the possible consequences on my friend (who will be blamed if they get caught)? Or encourage my friend to do the same, again despite the consequences?

I'm torn!

@WeGoHigh

It baffles me that people could defend this with the circumstances the OP has set out. If your vulnerable family member was being cared for by someone living with someone who’d tested positive would you be so blasé? I know everyone is exhausted at this stage but come on
I do have a very vulnerable family member and I can honestly say that this wouldn't bother them or me.

My family member are fully vaccinated even though we are all aware that nothing is completely foolproof.

People could be carrying any number of different viruses completely asymptomatically, so without being aware. They can pass those on. That is not unique to Covid.

We have to start learning to live with Covid around. It isn't going anywhere and we can't just keep jumping up and down like this at the drop of a hat. Otherwise where does it ever end. Spanish flu is still around over 100 years later.

Stompythedinosaur · 17/07/2021 01:55

Well, I'm a nurse, and if I found out any of my colleagues was coming in when they should be isolating I would absolutely report it, because my duty to protect vulnerable patients outweighs my duty not to be a "dobber" (also I am not 5 so not too worried about name calling).

Showing care to your community, and especially the vulnerable in your community, is not fascism in my book. Allowing selfish dickheads to endanger others because you are worried someone will call you a "dobber" is frankly pathetic. Nearly as pathetic as doing it in the first place.

@WouldYouShouldI

Ok, message received!

I'm a bit surprised that people aren't more concerned for others welfare. For the record, both the person breaking isolation and the person who tested positive are definitely double vaccinated- that clearly didn't stop them catching it, so doesn't mean it would help the people they work with either.

I expected the results of this to go the other way- my gut is not to report, but that left me feeling awful for the people it puts at risk.

Follow your gut feeling then. You are assuming that you have all of the facts when actually most of it is hearsay.

There is always risk in life. We have to live with it.

Get some perspective along with maybe an occupation. Lordy. This post has taken me back a few stages.

WouldYouShouldI · 17/07/2021 02:04

In fairness, people are assuming it's hearsay without knowing how much I actually know and could evidence. That didn't mean they're right.

Absolutely not

I’m aware of people who are meant to be self isolating have not symptoms and they are going out to the park/walks

I don’t blame them

FrangipaniDeLaSqueegeeMop · 17/07/2021 02:09

@WouldYouShouldI evidence? What evidence do you have? Do you have their PCR test results?

How awful to be "truly shocked" by something so innocuous. May I suggest you isolate forever lest you've offended by the outside world?

OK, what is your proof then? Do you have access to their extended family member's PCR test results? Do you even know for sure that there has been a positive PCR result, not the notoriously inaccurate lateral flow tests?

It is hearsay. It comes from you and your friend gossiping.

I will isolate if I have been near a positive case because I'm not a selfish dickhead. How the fuck do you justify going outside and possibly spreading a virus that is still killing people?
YouAreDisgusting · 17/07/2021 02:29

Oh, it's even worse; the prick is actually positive. And you people think that's fine! You're actually quite horrible. Christ.

FrangipaniDeLaSqueegeeMop · 17/07/2021 02:30

How do you justify being such an irrational drama llama?

Do you stay in all flu season too? Also a virus that kills many, many people and puts the NHS on its knees every single winter and is undetectable in many. Or are you only scared of viruses yore told to be scared of?

No, they allegedly (the OP really doesn't have rock solid proof though) live with someone who's had a positive PCR.

You sound like an absolute peach though

No, but I would stay in if someone in my household had it.

I am actually. I care about other people, unlike you.

Oh and it may have escaped your notice in the midst of your hysteria, but I didn't say I wouldn't isolate - I said I wouldn't report anyone. So enough with the "uNLikE yOu". Read posts properly before you start to make things up

Covid really brought some awful qualities in some people.. I keep wondering how our society is going to live after this madness is over with so many people thriving on curtain twitching, reporting their family and friends, counting people in neighbour's garden eager to report a breach of whatever regulation. I doubt this nasty energy will just disappear..

Themeparklover · 17/07/2021 02:50

You absolutely should and need to phone the 119 line who will pass the details to track and trace tier 3.

FrangipaniDeLaSqueegeeMop · 17/07/2021 02:51

You would say that, wouldn't you.

Oh please, random Internet keyboard warrior, pleeeeeeaae believe me when I say I'd isolate, it matters SO much what you think...

Oh wait hang on, I couldn't give a flying twat if you believe me or not
