To think freedom from lockdown will be cancelled before Monday

I think there will be backpedalling on the lockdown lifting. Really pessimistic news today. We are being prepared. IMHO.

Well as the bill has just gone through meaning he would have to pretty much held down and forced.
He is 39
He has a useless left side
He's also not the only one in my circle
One heart attack
Another nerve damage
One right side weakness starting to resolve now thankfully

We have a few cases in schools and local businesses but if they don’t relax rules now, then when? Next Summer, Next Autumn? Covid is here to stay and we will have to learn to live with it, too many people are now unemployed (or will be when furlough is reduced), struggling financially due to furlough/having to isolate for themselves or their children etc.

When they said they are expecting a rise in cases but better during school hols and before winter bugs kick in I thought that made sense.

Most people will still be careful and cautious and the ones that won’t, have never been anyway.

wellstopdoingitthen · 14/07/2021 19:55

@Sapphire387

Yep we have a class closed. Several local schools have it. One senior school had to close completely & just reopened. I heard today of a school with 13 members of staff off. London/Essex

Government: stay at home, wear masks, don't see anyone, close everything, one walk a day

MN: omg Sheila next door nipped to the corner shop twice today, should I ring the police? We need to follow what the government says!!!

Government: go out, crack on

MN: well that's a bit extreme

*Scientists they've listened to this whole time: no really, it's ok, go out if you want to

MN: you are clearly wrong

You couldn't make this shit up.*

This is so true.

They are putting it on us just like Johnson did last time. It won't be their fault it fails, it will be ours for not taking "personal responsibility". But to an extent, he’s right.

If we go into lockdown there are cries of what about our human rights?” And yet when people are told to take personal responsibility they complain that the government isn’t telling them what to do.

It’s not rocket science.

If your local pub is full then don’t go in there.

If you’re on public transport then wear a mask.

Instead of crying about that holiday you so desperately need don’t go abroad and risk catching it there and bringing it back.

Why must the government be held responsible for your every move? Are people not capable of thinking for themselves?

And before people say “well obviously many aren’t,” I’m talking about the people complaining that restrictions are being lifted as if they’re being summoned into the local night clubs and on to the costa del sole.

I believe I saw a report of another variant from Peru, so it appears that variants are popping up from time to time in different places, and will eventually move from country to country. Is it therefore feasible to keep having lockdowns?

Immuno-compromised/elderly people did die from getting the flu. On the two occasions I had flu (once at age 16) I was very ill for two weeks, lost weight and felt very weak afterwards. At the same time, my grandma got flu, which led to her being bedridden for three weeks and then having a stroke and dying. Unfortunately, these things happen and we can't keep closing everything down for indeterminate periods.

I am not complacent about the virus but when all other issues are considered, not least the damage done to children's mental and physical health and education, I think we need to start getting back to normal.

There was also a report in the paper today that "NHS trusts are reporting a rise in children being hospitalised with respiratory syneytial virus (RSV - non-Covid), owing to an "immunity debt" built up over the last 18 months.

I think there should be more emphasis on promoting general health - eating good, natural, non-manufactured/non-convenience food as much as possible and getting out in the fresh air and walking/exercising more. Instead, the paper also reported "Monthly vaccine touted as cure for long Covid". Reportedly, the vaccine does help with long Covid symptoms and the doctor interviewed said it may "reset" the immune system (long Covid is appasrently now thought to be an autoimmune disease) but I do wonder how wise this approach is.

AlternativePerspective · 14/07/2021 20:04

And FWIW I am vulnerable.

I have a serious heart condition. 4.5. Years ago I very nearly died from the flu. Life support, ventilators, the works. 2 years ago I had a cardiac arrest and nearly died. And the transplant consultant at Papworth has said that if I go in again it’s unlikely I would come out.

I have busted a gut to maintain my fitness in lockdown. I shielded, and to keep up my steps I walked around my house.

I took every precaution to ensure I didn’t come into contact with COVID where possible.

I have now been fully vaccinated, and I know that I am far less likely to fall seriously ill if I catch it. And while I don’t want to catch it, I refuse to lock myself up for the foreseeable future and potentially waste the years I have left before my heart deteriorates to the point I will need a transplant.

What’s the point in avoiding dying to the extent that you aren’t living?

I’ve spent the past 18 months doing everything to keep myself healthy.

If I catch COVID now so be it.

@FrangipaniDeLaSqueegeeMop

Bloody hope not.

I refuse to succumb to the irrational fear and gaslighting over COVID and won't be a part of that by continuing to comply with things that restrict my freedom.

Last March it was made out to be similar to Spanish Flu when 20% of the world died. It has been nothing nearly like that.

We were told the virus flourished in winter yet seemingly there's loads of cases when everywhere is 26c degrees out

We were told the vaccine roll out would make the world of difference but restrictions are still in place and apparently hospitalisations are rife

We've been gaslighted into thinking that "aaaaahhhhh PANIC cases are rising" when surge testing has been demanded and taken up, rather than any increase in people actually being ill

We've been gaslighted into thinking we can't spend time with a few more family members...unless we were going to Wembley with them and booking seats nearby with 60,000 other people.

We've tolerated ableism with Stasi-wannabes, we've tolerated people telling us where we can and can't plant our feet, we've tolerated the little Hitlers getting boners from bossing strangers about over a piece of cloth over their faces.

We've allowed our children to sit in the house for 10 days while we run around trying to figure out how the fuck we are going to sort work/appointments/cancellations even though our children are fine

And yet we seem to be no further forward than 16 months ago.

Fuck. That. Shit.

I'm done and the mask will be going in the bin on Monday regardless

This is exactly why we need to retain and indeed enforce criminal laws and ensure we are all in this together united against a common cause that is not flu. Unlike flu Covid is infinitely more contagious and so far killed possibly 4 million and counting. Even if the current variants of Covid fatalities rate (excluding as yet unknown cases of long Covid disabilities) is 1+% - it is potentially 1+% of millions in this nation and billions globally.

Exceptionalism entitlementalists will not be able to cheat science nor perhaps eventually themselves. In a polarised world of confusion, instant propaganda, fake Covid certification, fake test results and fake flowery lanyard with alarmingly pick your own made up fake disabilities widely available online for the cost of a mask - I tend to listen and follow the advice and reasoning of leading established respected world class peer reviewed scientists with proven relevant specialist expertise. When in doubt I choose safety over risk. Contrary to belief I am not a fan of masks but always always wear one when sensible and right to do so in the same breathing space as others.

I wish we could all unite to beat this together to do whatever it takes and not keep messing about prolonging the pain and causing more damage to lives and livelihoods. The more we can do every little helpful intervention the more we can finally get to a manageable living and dying with Covid new normal.

Is it any surprise that many organisations have decided to put safety first and continue with some risk mitigation management to protect themselves and others including invitees who adhere to globally implemented courteous behaviour.

The freedom day may still yet be free for all lawlessness day where the only winner is Covid! A disease we can’t cheat be being irresponsible.

Stay safe and stay sensible. Covid is smart enough to beat so many otherwise fit and healthy intelligent people. It will destroy Covidiots with ease as it only takes one to seed, incubate and super spread to mutate exponentially. It is after all - how a few has already infected the globe.

Is 6 weeks enough to ride this wave??

Or will it be peaking as school goes back

frumpety · 14/07/2021 20:54

What can we do from the 19th in England that we can't currently do ?

Siepie · 14/07/2021 20:58

@frumpety

What can we do from the 19th in England that we can't currently do ?
See more than 5 other people inside See more than 30 people outside Go to nightclubs and order at the bar at pubs Sit closer together in cafes/pubs/etc meaning they can fit more people in - some places have been struggling to make any profit due to social distancing
Cooldryplace · 14/07/2021 21:03

@frumpety

Yes, as PP. If people have actually been following the rules, the changes are huge. We have DH's funeral on Monday. If it was this week, the crem was restricted to 50 people, now no limit and for the wake I could have gone for:

Up to six people or two households indoors at home - now unlimited
Up to 30 people in the garden - now unlimited
Tables of 6 and no mingling in a pub or restaurant - mingling now allowed

RonaLisa · 14/07/2021 21:16

The thing is, though, we're not all in this together, and never have been. Even if MN were representative of the general population (which it isn't), the experiences documented on here have been wildly different.

I personally have no interest at all in large gatherings (have always hated them), don't have a huge extended family, don't go on holiday, etc, etc, etc. However, I have a massive vested interest in hospitality being able to open fully, because I need to pay my bills. I last went in a nightclub about 30 years ago, but in economic terms, I need people to be able to go to them.

I also couldn't possibly agree with the idea of yet more laws and enforcement. I loathe the diktats that have appeared since Covid, and I am astounded that so many people have gone along with them.

There's no way to keep everyone happy, and we are most certainly not all in it together.

frumpety · 14/07/2021 21:18

@Siepie , I feel for those businesses , especially as they are now being encouraged to use the covid certification when there are large groups of people, especially indoors and there is currently no change to the rules about testing, contact tracing and self-isolation. The workforce in a lot of these businesses will be the age group who are currently topping the charts in covid infections, I can see a lot of places fully opening and then being poleaxed with staffing issues.

watingroom2 · 14/07/2021 21:27

once schools shut there will be less 'gatherings daily' .. and that will help 'reduce spread' ..

I actually think Boris - and his clan - thought schools would be shut by the 19th oblivious state ones would not be!

frumpety · 14/07/2021 21:32

The requirement for double-vaccinated people, or under-18s, who are a contact of a confirmed COVID case to self-isolate for 10 days will be lifted on 16 August

This will be interesting. All we need to do is reduce the age children can work in hospitality and DS will be rich beyond his wildest dreams Wink

I don't dint think schools have been hot beds of transmission though. They've had a lot of isolations because when rates are high in the community, naturally children will have it too, but generally there hasn't been a lot of onward transmission in school, the isolations have worked.

Once schools finish, the children will still socialise and travel, outside of the controlled environment, with what seems like (on here at least) the majority of families saying they will ignore any request to isolate....

TegwenM · 14/07/2021 21:33

No way! He’a set on a course and I don’t think gives a damn about the consequences - it’s going to be bad. And don’t even get me started on Javid. Lockdown could be eased in a much more measured way but again they go against the advice.

The basic misunderstanding of what a vaccine can actually do is astonishing.....but the I’m Alright, Jack prevails again! Fill your boots but not everyone wants to do they shouldn’t be made to feel bad.

Zenithbear · 14/07/2021 21:49

It's time for us people with social lives, friends, hobbies and holidays booked to get on with it.
Those wanting to stay at home fretting about dying just do it.
Not one person I know wants to be restricted any more.

As obesity and diabetes seem to have been some of the biggest risk factors, if we got our act together before the epidemic hit, it would have had a huge impact.
Terhou · 14/07/2021 22:02

Not one person I know wants to be restricted any more

Do they want to be ill, then? Even if it leads to long covid or death? Not one of us can say it won't happen.

Ihatefacemasks · 14/07/2021 22:33

@Terhou

So because we can't guarantee 100% that we will never become ill (either with Covid or something else), and that any illness we contract won't be fatal, we should never, ever have left the house at any point since we were born. In fact, we should not have socialised with any other human, or touched anything, or done anything at all. This is a crazy way to think.

You do know, don't you, that we are all going to die? I would like to enjoy being alive in the meantime.

FrangipaniDeLaSqueegeeMop · 14/07/2021 22:57

We can say there's a 99% chance or so that it won't happen so to get fearful of it is no more use than getting fearful and staying indoors in case one gets shingles
