To think freedom from lockdown will be cancelled before Monday

I think there will be backpedalling on the lockdown lifting. Really pessimistic news today. We are being prepared. IMHO.

Bloody hope not.

I refuse to succumb to the irrational fear and gaslighting over COVID and won't be a part of that by continuing to comply with things that restrict my freedom.

Last March it was made out to be similar to Spanish Flu when 20% of the world died. It has been nothing nearly like that.

We were told the virus flourished in winter yet seemingly there's loads of cases when everywhere is 26c degrees out

We were told the vaccine roll out would make the world of difference but restrictions are still in place and apparently hospitalisations are rife

We've been gaslighted into thinking that "aaaaahhhhh PANIC cases are rising" when surge testing has been demanded and taken up, rather than any increase in people actually being ill

We've been gaslighted into thinking we can't spend time with a few more family members...unless we were going to Wembley with them and booking seats nearby with 60,000 other people.

We've tolerated ableism with Stasi-wannabes, we've tolerated people telling us where we can and can't plant our feet, we've tolerated the little Hitlers getting boners from bossing strangers about over a piece of cloth over their faces.

We've allowed our children to sit in the house for 10 days while we run around trying to figure out how the fuck we are going to sort work/appointments/cancellations even though our children are fine

And yet we seem to be no further forward than 16 months ago.

Fuck. That. Shit.

I'm done and the mask will be going in the bin on Monday regardless

BlatantlyNameChanged · 14/07/2021 18:46

Tell that to my brother who was forced to vaccinate due to working with dementia sufferers and now has PERMENANT nerve damage

He was pinned down and forcibly vaccinated?

Really though, I'm sorry that he has nerve damage however this is incredibly rare. Does he have confirmation that it was due to the vaccine and has it been reported via the yellow card scheme? He could also apply for compensation via this government scheme www.gov.uk/vaccine-damage-payment

@lazylinguist

Stop using the word 'freedom' that belongs to persecuted people not bored, selfish non-resillient first world dullards

Don't be so ridiculous. The word 'freedom' doesn't belong to anyone. It's just a word. A perfectly ordinary word that you can find in the dictionary alongside all the other words, and in all kinds of contexts - from adverts to business names to songs. Stop trying to police people's use of perfectly normal language!

Hear hear.

People's desperation to hand over all their liberties to prevent getting something most people wouldn't even notice they had (because the government tells them It's Scary - but flu which kills many people each year isn't so we aren't frightened of that), alarms me.

BlatantlyNameChanged · 14/07/2021 18:50

Roughly 1 in 3 cases are asymptomatic, that's not "most", most people do know they have it because they have symptoms - 2 in 3 is bigger than 1 in 3.

Supermum29 · 14/07/2021 18:54

I have wondered if they will cancel. My daughters entire school were out bar one year group, 5 positive cases in children in her class alone. Day ten of my daughters isolation my partner tested positive and a few days after me and my daughter too. Cannot get an appointment for a pcr locally because they are all fully booked so having to do a home test. In my opinion it’s too soon, but if they extend it I doubt people will comply anyway so they can’t really win.

BlatantlyNameChanged · 14/07/2021 18:55

And if you want to see what happens when covid is allowed to run rampant with no lockdown, no social distancing, no public health measures such as masks, and low/no vaccination then you need only look at Brazil which didn't do any of those things.

www.forbes.com/sites/joewalsh/2021/06/19/brazil-is-now-the-2nd-country-with-500000-covid-deaths---and-infections-arent-slowing-down/

Lockdown and other preventative measures were absolutely the best course to minimise the impact of covid upon the population of the UK.

And 99% of people survive it.

The 2 in 3 who are asymptomatic will barely even be ill.

Why is the world stopping for this? Why are we allowing it?

DogInATent · 14/07/2021 18:57

YABU, but mostly because we haven't been in 'lockdown' for a long time. The current restrictions are very light touch. Even when we were in lockdown, it wasn't as restrictive as many other countries.

Speaking of gaslighting….

Brazil's healthcare structure is completely different to ours, their poverty rates are higher and its incomparable especially when only 11% of the population have only taken up the vaccine

What do people actually want to happen before we ease restrictions? 0 COVID cases? 50 cases? When will you be happy? Because it's here to stay

FrangipaniDeLaSqueegeeMop · 14/07/2021 18:59

Not to mention, the "my kids class have been sent home" is no indication of a virus running rampant, more and ill-thought out 'bubble' system that has done more damage than good in schools

BlatantlyNameChanged · 14/07/2021 19:00

Where did I say restrictions shouldn't be eased and that we should stay in lockdown...?

The frothing over it and the inaccurate downplaying of covid is ridiculous though.

Roselilly36 · 14/07/2021 19:00

@Turquoisesol

It’s like Christmas all over again.
I agree, the government, never backtrack do they! 🤣
FrangipaniDeLaSqueegeeMop · 14/07/2021 19:02

@BlatantlyNameChanged I didn't say you had claimed that, it was addressing everyone in general

How is it downplaying? Almost everyone who contracts COVID recovers from it. Flu has been rife for decades killing tens of thousands of people a year and putting a tremendous strain on the NHS every winter - ask yourself why there's no fear over flu, and never has been despite the year-on-year damage?

FrangipaniDeLaSqueegeeMop · 14/07/2021 19:02

I agree with a PP though it will be like Christmas and on Sunday they will delay the restrictions easing

Ihatefacemasks · 14/07/2021 19:04

@TheDevils

They can cancel all they like, and while yes I may be restricted on places open, I will be cracking on seeing my friends and family and having gatherings. If other people want to stay in more you do you, I'll do me.

Yep. Me too.

Me too.

And I wasn't even a gathering type person before Covid.

I will not be wearing a face mask, either.

whynotwhatknot · 14/07/2021 19:05

he should but wont this time he would have done it monday if he was going to do it

my nephew school has a few years off not enough teachers theyre all isolating from a contact

Light touch be blowed, if you work in hospitality/leisure/retail/theatre/music, and especially if you work in any of those sectors and run your own business.

It felt like a death knell to me.

JassyRadlett · 14/07/2021 19:06

What do people actually want to happen before we ease restrictions? 0 COVID cases? 50 cases? When will you be happy? Because it's here to stay

I would like us to not go ahead with the fourth stage of lifting public health measures (low key and mild as they are) until we have a higher proportion of the population fully vaccinated, recognising that it takes longer for that immunity level to have an effect when there is a lot of disease circulating compared to when levels are lower.

Sadly I think we’re in for a bumpy time regardless given the government’s catastrophic decisions in April. But given the potential impacts v potential benefits of maintaining these low level restrictions for another month or so to get our double vax rate higher, I’d go for keeping them a bit longer. Hospital admissions and occupancy now clearly looks exponential in terms of rate of increase, so keeping even a very light lid on that, combined with the natural suppressive effect of having kids off school (as they are now a significant proportion of the unvaccinated population) feels sensible.

ihatefacemasks · 14/07/2021 19:08

@Bertiebiscuit

See here's the problem - freedom for you is back in jail for sick, vulnerable, older people who will be exposed to more of the virus - stop being so self centred and just carry on doing what you can so as not to infect & kill others less fortunate
Freedom for a lot of people means being able to keep their homes and to keep their families fed. Neither of which a whole swathe of people could do during lockdown.

How did sick/vulnerable/older people manage with the viruses that were around pre-Covid? Covid is hardly the first or worst of them.

BlatantlyNameChanged · 14/07/2021 19:10

I agree with a PP though it will be like Christmas and on Sunday they will delay the restrictions easing

I don't think they'll delay all of it but I do think masks will be reinstated pretty sharpish.

AlternativePerspective · 14/07/2021 19:10

Lockdowns have never been about preventing people from catching COVID. They were about protecting the NHS.

the vast majority of people who have been vaccinated and caught COVID have come through it.

COVID is always going to be around. People are always going to catch it and people will always die from it. Just as people die from flu.

I have been double vaccinated and I am vulnerable. But the truth is there has to come a point when we return to some semblance of normality.

Aside from which, why do people want to live in a nanny state.

Just because you don’t have to wear a mask doesn’t mean you can’t if you want to.

Just because nightclubs are open doesn’t mean you have to go to one.

This idea that the government should hold our hands at every turn rather than people taking personal responsibility is ridiculous.

Freddie28 · 14/07/2021 19:19

We have hardly any pupils in the secondary school I work in and very few in the primary school down the road. My 28 year son tested positive on Sunday. Not so many serious cases, but it is definitely spreading quickly.

eandz13 · 14/07/2021 19:38

Government: stay at home, wear masks, don't see anyone, close everything, one walk a day

MN: omg Sheila next door nipped to the corner shop twice today, should I ring the police? We need to follow what the government says!!!

Government: go out, crack on

MN: well that's a bit extreme

Scientists they've listened to this whole time: no really, it's ok, go out if you want to

MN: you are clearly wrong

You couldn't make this shit up.

MotherOfDemons · 14/07/2021 19:41

They are putting it on us just like Johnson did last time. It won't be their fault it fails, it will be ours for not taking "personal responsibility".
