The Italian Captain is a bully!

The Italian Football Captain is a horrible bully.

He should have got a red card for the way he treated Saka pulling his shirt collar and dragging him to the floor.

Also when Italy were against Spain the way he grabbed the Spanish captain persuading him to do penalties on the Italian side.

I can’t stand him. He deserves no praise and his team played dirty!

Time to move on! It's the Italian way, just a bit of hurly burly.

TotorosCatBus · 13/07/2021 13:58

Italy won. Euro 2020 is over.
England were (apparently) lucky to get a penalty in the Denmark game- sometimes mistakes happen.

There's always more football tournaments like the World Cup next year. Onwards and upwards.

Ginger1982 · 13/07/2021 13:59

😂😂😂

TheWhalrus · 13/07/2021 14:00

In football the refs don't give out cards for fouls just because they look bad/offensive....he knows the rules and decided to take the hit as there wasn't a huge amount of cover behind him. A 'tactical' foul is a yellow card unless you're the last player between the attacked and the goal. Saka knew this too.

Some would call it dirty, others would say cynical or even smart. Where you have certain rules, people will always try and exploit them. Jorghino's foul on Grealish a few mins later was probably closer to a red card as it looked a bit like a 2-footer from one angle.

HowManyToes · 13/07/2021 14:01

Sour grapes? 🍇

Frownette · 13/07/2021 14:02

Yes but it's over now. I think Italian played better but they intimidated England on the pitch because no-one wants that level of aggression, it subdued the players.

Southgate made a mistake with penalty shootouts but he says that himself. From my perspective he was trying to give confidence to the younger players but it was overwhelming.

Brilliant team though, world cup next year!

I'd like to see how Italy addresses racism however

Honeybeebloom · 13/07/2021 14:02

Jeez, time to move on. Italy won.

pinkcircustop · 13/07/2021 14:03

YANBU. They only won because they cheated 🤷‍♀️

Lemonmelonsun · 13/07/2021 14:12

I couldn't agree more op and he purposeful with pre meditated intent yanked him from behind to the the ground.

People talk about thuggery off pitch, there is thuggery right there!
I can't believe it wasn't a red card. Outrageous!

Dreadful, tackling people is hard and you can't predict the damage you do but this guy.. Gives several yanks and just tears the poor lad down!

Lemonmelonsun · 13/07/2021 14:13

I also feel there should be a cut off to how many yellow cards a team can get before being penalised?

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 13/07/2021 14:14

In rugby, tackles around the neck are considered very dangerous, and are a professional foul which results in a red card. I don’t see that what the Italian captain did was any safer, because he used the collar of the England player’s shirt, rather than an arm around the neck.

DamsonJammyBastard · 13/07/2021 14:16

Oh get over it, moaning minnie.

It was a tactical foul on a player who wasn't near the goal.

Worthy of a yellow card certainly, but that's it.

Chiellini is fantastic.

sugarapplelane · 13/07/2021 14:20

They only won because they cheated!!!!
How???
How can you possibly cheat on a penalty shoot out?
What a stupid comment.

Frownette · 13/07/2021 14:21

@DamsonJammyBastard a tactical foul..? No it wasn't. This is their place of work, on the pitch, it's a no contact sport and should not have happened.

You're condoning violence.

Football a no contact sport?!?

You are several sandwiches short of a picnic.

Frownette · 13/07/2021 14:26

@DamsonJammyBastard yes it is, I would suggest you're lacking.

It is not supposed to be kicks, pulls, shoving. I wonder where your aggression comes from?

Yep, I agree - for every 3 yellow cards the opposing team should be awarded a goal, might focus the minds a little!

I'm not aggressive in the slightest. I just do not choose to indulge in this babyish whining as you do.

I suggest you try to move on.

100 agree with you.

He knew he would only get a yellow so that's why he did it

MargaretThursday · 13/07/2021 14:32

You shouldn't be allowed "tactical fouls". That's a dreadful way of playing, and just a way of making cheating sound more acceptable.

I think when it goes to penalties then any player who has been given a card, or been subbed on for someone who had a card shouldn't be allowed to take a penalty.

So any player who hasn't had a card gets to take a penalty and then a team who hasn't done "tactical fouls" will have a better chance of winning.

If tactical fouls are allowed in football, effectively you're saying that every player is allowed to be caught cheating once.

Shall we move that over to other sports? You can trip over an opponent who's beating you in a race as long as you only do it to one person? You can drop tacks behind you in F1 as long as you only do it once?
Still sounds sensible?

onlyhereforthecake · 13/07/2021 14:32

Feel free to write to the football association and demand that new rules are being put in place if things bother you so much.

The match is old news now.

😂🤣🤣
There seem to be a lot of people on here who have never watched a game of football before Sunday night and have no idea what constitutes cheating or are coming up with ridiculous ideas for how the game should be changed.

It was definitely a tactical decision as he did it so blatantly. He knew he would get a card. He took one for the team.

Diving is also a tactic... see Stirling and the Denmark game. Some might say England shouldn't have been in the final because of that dive ie) if they didn't get that penner they may not have won that game

Chiellini is a lot of fun. He was only messing around with the Spanish coin toss !

ConstantlySeekingHappiness · 13/07/2021 14:35

Not another bloody thread dominated by people who clearly know nothing about football and have seen a match for the first time in their lives….

The rules aren’t going to be changed because England didn’t win.

England lost because they missed three penalties out of five. That’s quite simply the only reason.
