A library thought it appropriate to book this 'entertainment' for children and I feel sick

I thought it was a joke, a photoshop job, a hoax even but it's not.

WTF

A children's entertainer in a library with this costume?

What the hell is this?

A quick summary of events so far, Redbridge library booked unsuitable monkey entertainment an obscene act that set out to expose young children to sex, including sex toys and simulated sex acts and which should have resulted in arrest.

MemoryGame · 21/07/2021 22:31

I'm not sure I phrased it very well, but my point was supposed to be that Exeter library had apologised for their reaction to the monkey, but are still booking other acts which have been problematic at Redbridge and elsewhere. A twitter comment can just be one dodgy individual who shouldn't have been left in charge of the account, actually booking this stuff looks more like an institutional problem.

Councils have been closing libraries wholesale for years and those that survive are staffed largely by unqualified staff or volunteers.

Nobody will pay for actual librarians, so it's hardly surprising that wildly unprofessional stuff is going on. 🤷🏼‍♀️

I had made a formal compliant to Exeter (my local library) - the Centre Manager thought it appropriate that he 'copied and pasted' the pathetic statement from twitter, finished with 'let me know if I can help with anything else'. I did check his twitter - stood in the library with a drag queen.

Escalate it via the complaints procedure (normally stage 1, stage 2 then LGO)

DevonTF · 22/07/2021 15:14

Tiltom - I have, have also complained about the handling of the complaint - awaiting the second stage response. But considering how flippant the response has been - I am not holding my breath. Asked for confirmation of timescales , he 'apologised for my initial email coming across as dismissive, and advised that your complaint had been escalated'. They know they are dismissing our concerns, and couldn't care less.

Best summary I’ve seen Tibtom

I thought there’d previously been protests about Mama G & Devon libraries so checked and yes summer 2019 booked for some Devon libraries, parents protested about how inappropriate the act was, so Devon libraries booked again for 2020, more complaints and so they have booked the same act again for 2021.

One wonders what exactly is required for Devon libraries to stop booking such a misogynistic sexualised performer?
