There should be no England fans at final IMO

I cannot believe there is not more disgust at the actions of one (or more) English fan(s).

Aside from trying to cheat way to an England victory by distracting the goalkeeper during a penalty, lasers are phenomenally dangerous to eyes. The goalkeeper could have retinal damage.

I think a “lesser” nation would have been kicked out, but England won’t. But in my view the fans should be banned - there has to be consequences for criminal actions. Otherwise it will happen again.

Suspect I’ll be in the minority but it’s frankly embarrassing we have fans who do this.

@snoin

The behaviour of many English fans has been a total disgrace. Let's hope they lose later today.

Is anyone actually surprised by it though? Sadly, it's exactly the behaviour I'd have expected from them.

You spelt "some" incorrectly

So a team of hard working sportspeople should lose because a handful of fuckng arseholes, who use said sport as an excuse for violence and racism (which is not a POV supported by the vast VAST majority of fans), should lose the achievement that they have spent their lives working for?

Ok.

I wonder if you would say the same about followers of any particular faith deserving to be punished because a tiny minority use that faith as an excuse to kill people. I suspect not. And yet........

Why? Genuine question? Why expect this behaviour of English fans and no other fans
Slub · 11/07/2021 01:07

OP you are obviously a pissed off scot

PhilSwagielka · 11/07/2021 01:10

Schmeichel is fine. He barely noticed and also, you have to remember that goalkeepers are trained to concentrate on the game. They can’t afford to be distracted. They get abuse shouted at them endlessly and have to train themselves not to react.

PhilSwagielka · 11/07/2021 01:12

@wonderstuff

They should go all out to find the 'fan' and ban them for life. England have been fined and quite rightly so. In the past fans have been banned from matches and had passports suspended during international fixtures and this has reduced violent conduct.

We have a fantastic team who have been vocal about inclusion, fair play and decency. They have conducted themselves brilliantly and it would be outrageous to punish them for the conduct of potentially one individual at Wembley.

This. Ban the fuckwit who did it but don’t punish all fans because of idiots like that.
PhilSwagielka · 11/07/2021 01:41

@Childrenofthestones

This just in......Lots of uber remainers hating the fact that England are in the final are made up to find something to put them down for.
I voted Remain. Guess who I’m supporting?

Hint: it’s not Italy.

Left-wing England fans exist. We are out there.

Bryonyshcmyony · 11/07/2021 09:20

This hatred of the England football team borders on psychopathic. Who would have thought it upsets people this much?

LaserPointer · 11/07/2021 09:41

Yep. Only complete psychopaths don’t support England.

(Is it only England who gets so furious about the fact that many Non-English don’t support them? - I’m not aware of any other nation’s fans being so apoplectic in their response to people who don’t back them. Maybe chill out a bit?)

Hatred. Not just supporting a different team or country.

MarshaBradyo · 11/07/2021 09:47

It’s fine not to support, of course people don’t care about that, but some seem overly invested in us having no success and get great joy or whatever if England lose

It is a bit obsessive

If England lose, its down to Brexit, surely even hardened Brexitiers aren't so thick they can't see that?

...and if we win, its purely down to leaving, after all, in the 45 years we were in the EU, we never reached the final (men) let alone win anything...... one in the eye for those unpatriotic remoaners lol!

LaserPointer · 11/07/2021 09:53

You are being completely melodramatic.

It’s not hatred, it’s not obsessive.

But maybe the English football supporters should as themselves why so many non-English choose not to support them. A little bit of quiet self-reflection could go a long way.

As i have said before - I do hope England win today - it will bring big happiness to so many people and if 1966 is anything to go by, we’ll still be talking fondly of the win in 2076. (Well I won’t as I’ll probably be dead)

Good luck England.

Bryonyshcmyony · 11/07/2021 09:54

I haven't given Brexit a single thought during the Euros. I voted Remain, Brexit is shit for my business, but I've loved every minute of England's success.

Bryonyshcmyony · 11/07/2021 09:56

Why? People are perfectly free to support their own country. If they are jealous that's not England's problem 🤷🏼‍♀️

Why should I reflect?

I’m at home watching I don’t usually even follow football.

So no self reflection required.

But I do notice there’s a few that get great joy in England losing, and other strong statements about why they hate the place. Just let it go.

Bovrilly · 11/07/2021 10:16

😂😂 Great idea, I'll phone Gary Lineker and perhaps he and Alan Shearer could lead a few moments of quiet self-reflection during the build up.

I'm in Wales and think that booing of anthems by the English is pretty low on the list of reasons to support Italy. I'm sure many Welsh people were supporting Denmark on Wednesday even though the Danes had booed the Welsh anthem a few days earlier. It's much more to do with the complicated history of English / Welsh politics and relations I think. (Trying to put it politely so as not to start a fight but Cofiwch Dryweryn is the tip of a large iceberg)

LaserPointer · 11/07/2021 10:31

Bovrilly - are you really putting forward Gary and Alan as representative of the England fan base? 🤣🤣🤣

I think we both know that thats taking it a little too far!

Nice try!

OP posts:
MarshaBradyo · 11/07/2021 10:33

Maybe those that feel so much glee towards a loss and animosity towards a country should quietly reflect instead.

Why so bitter

ChocBeforeCock · 11/07/2021 10:44

I don’t care if other nations support us or not, but anyone supporting Italy because of some England booing anthems is being ridiculous given Italy fans boo anthems too. You can watch for yourself them booing the Swedish anthem a couple of years back.

Wanting England to lose because of it is really quite nasty given how tens of millions of non-booing fans will be happy if England win.

If Italy win I’ll be gutted but I’ll be happy for them, not thinking I wish unhappiness on them because their captain is a massive shithouse who practically assaulted the Spanish captain in the pre-shoot out coin toss to gain a psychological advantage.

I suggested that they lead your moment of self-reflection because they will be broadcasting to many millions of England fans tonight and are England fans themselves.

(I thought the idea of self reflection "sit in the corner and have a think about what you've done" was funny and made a joke about it.)

Interesting that you think they're not representative of England fans though. They're certainly both passionate about the England football team. Are they just not quite "disgusting" and "embarrassing" enough to be representative? The vast majority of England fans are no more likely to cause trouble than Gary and Alan.

Bryonyshcmyony · 11/07/2021 11:09

I think we all know which socio economic bracket the disgusting fans fall into, according to pps

snoin · 11/07/2021 11:35

Amazing how defensive some of the England supporters here are! Completely unable to deal with anyone who doesn't support them, or dares to disagree with their opinion.

I've already got some nice Italian wine in.

MarshaBradyo · 11/07/2021 11:41

Not defensive

I didn’t realise people felt as strongly as you do re hating somewhere. Seems odd bit each to their own.
