There should be no England fans at final IMO

I cannot believe there is not more disgust at the actions of one (or more) English fan(s).

Aside from trying to cheat way to an England victory by distracting the goalkeeper during a penalty, lasers are phenomenally dangerous to eyes. The goalkeeper could have retinal damage.

I think a “lesser” nation would have been kicked out, but England won’t. But in my view the fans should be banned - there has to be consequences for criminal actions. Otherwise it will happen again.

Suspect I’ll be in the minority but it’s frankly embarrassing we have fans who do this.

I will admit to being a miserable fucker. I am a miserable and cynical old fucker.

No arguments here, you sound pretty unpleasant and condescending.

FlaminEckVera · 10/07/2021 11:14

Is this shitty thread still going?

@mrsorms (re your post at 10.06 and 44 seconds,) go back to bed luv . You're overtired.

So people can't get excited by football AND care about the economy being wrecked, the covid deaths, and the impact on peoples mental health?! The two are not mutually exclusive you know. Stop spouting such utter nonsense.

As I have said (and many people on here have,) the hatred towards the English, and the desperation for the England team to fail, and the nasty little jibes people keep spouting about them 'fouling and cheating to get where they are is VILE'. They have not cheated or fouled any more than any other team. Indeed, the have done such things much less!

Some people are so so soooooooo bitter and jealous.

Agree

I've sure got my opinions about political issues here in the UK, and football hooligans. But I'm glad there's this little bit of light fun and excitement, something to enjoy and for people to take pride in and be positive about, for the fans who aren't hooligans to really get behind, and everyone else that wants to. That isn't a politician seeking to piggyback on the glory train, that is. . .

mrsorms · 10/07/2021 11:29

'Unpleasant and condescending', perhaps I am, but then this thread started as a response to the unpleasant side of football. I don't really hark back to the 'good old days', but there has to be a sense of context. This is the Euros not the World Cup, they are similar, but not the same.

Yes, I do mean jingoism as in extreme patriotism. I hear people in my own family state,, 'England are in the final. It makes me proud to be British!' The stupid twats should think about what they are saying!

FrangipaniDeLaSqueegeeMop · 10/07/2021 11:30

England are in the final. It makes me proud to be British!'

@mrsorms why does saying this make someone "a stupid twat"? Is it because of the English/British thing? Why can't a person be both Confused

Bryonyshcmyony · 10/07/2021 11:31

I wonder what it is that makes people so bitter and judgemenal.

FrangipaniDeLaSqueegeeMop · 10/07/2021 11:32

And not being joyful about something because bad things are happening in the world? That's just ridiculous. No one would ever be happy, ever. Then again I think some people would enjoy a miserable world.

Bryonyshcmyony · 10/07/2021 11:32

Yes, ENGLAND are in the final. Being English is also being British. Are you Scottish by some chance?

Bryonyshcmyony · 10/07/2021 11:33

I think it's a control thing. Some people feel they have no control over people being happy and it's much more comforting to them to be negative and miserable. I guess then you aren't ever disappointed!
PinkSparklyPussyCat · 10/07/2021 11:35

I sometimes wonder whether people like the OP and @mrsorms actually enjoy anything in life or if the hatred is just reserved for England. It must be a miserable existence. Thankfully I don't know anyone like them in real life!

Bryonyshcmyony · 10/07/2021 11:39

I mean I am completely uninterested in tennis. I wish I wasn't, because it must be great to love it when it's on the whole time. But I just can't get into it. It would be just so odd for me to literally hate and resent it though. Why would you want that kind of negativity in your life?

I have zero interest in tennis and I'm English but when Andy Murray won Wimbledon I was cheering and celebrating in his success.

I've just always found its much better for the soul to be positive and if I really don't care, I ignore and move on to something else rather than moan about how shit it is

SamW98 · 10/07/2021 12:03

Sorry @Bryonyshcmyony didn't mean to quote you

Bryonyshcmyony · 10/07/2021 12:10

Yes agree and I'd also be happy if someone English Scottish Welsh British Irish won

sparepantsandtoothbrush · 10/07/2021 12:23

A football tournament featuring many countries vs a football tournament featuring many countries. Yep, totally different!

55 countries started this journey and we're in the final two! I'll be watching tomorrow and cheering us on, along with my DD who is one of the young with MH issues that you mentioned. Football is one of the only things that has made her smile in months. Seeing people having fun again, being as one, supporting something as a country has given her the realisation that what we've been living through over the last 16 months isn't the future and that there will be some sense of normality again (hopefully soon).

Sorry if you can't find any joy at all in the Euros though

VillanellesOrangeCoat · 10/07/2021 12:39

@JackieWeaverHandforthCouncil
”These anti England posts are starting to piss me off (which I guess is the point) and I’m nowhere near nationalist flag shagger status.”

🤣🤣 Totally agree!

At this rate, when we win tomorrow my first thought will be how pissed off some posters will be 😂

2021hwg · 10/07/2021 19:20

Look I hate tennis, this time of year it's all over tv, news social media's and so on. It's very hard to avoid but I manage.

If you don't like the football then just don't watch it. If it's going to make you angry and miserable just ignore it. Stick a film on, pretty sure braveheart is on Netflix

PyongyangKipperbang · 10/07/2021 19:26

I live near St Georges Park and the scenes there were amazing. All fans, all happy to see their national team and the only reason the police were there was because roads had to be closed as there were so many people.

Thats what its like for the vast majority.

To be fair, winning the Euros isn't as big a deal as winning the World Cup.

It would still be a huge achievement though (particularly as Europe has a very good claim to being the strongest of the regions).

DancesWithTortoises · 10/07/2021 19:39

Calm down, OP. It's only a game.

PyongyangKipperbang · 10/07/2021 19:40

Whilst I agree with you, I am not sure any South American would :o

It would be a decent argument. Obviously Brazil are the most successful individual team, but European nations have won the majority of World Cups and have provided, I believe, 10 finalists (compared to 3 from South America).

PyongyangKipperbang · 10/07/2021 19:44

Like I say, I agree with you the record is impressive.
