Why is this relevant?

Will be 42 when I have my last child and people have said the above in incredulous tones.

What am I missing?

@July2mebabywouldJuly2me

She can't get over her not seeing her 5yo son grow up and I think older parents do forget this sadly will happen

Whatever makes you think we're that naive? The priority for any parent is surely raising our own children to adulthood. Grandchildren are a bonus.

Yes, I would love to be there for grandchildren, but I think my kids are quite pleased to exist, overall, I'm very thankful just to have them, and I didn't get with their dad till I was 40.

I’ll be 62 when DC 4 is 18.
My grandma would only have been 44 but she died at 37...
Who knows?
60 is young nowadays anyway.
And you’re probably wiser and richer than young mums - swings and roundabouts.

Take no notice. You are having your life and eating it!
Enjoy.

It's probably not anyone else's business. Both my sets of grandparents had children in their 40s, my parents didn't recommend it to us, due to their energy levels being lower, but they had a big age range between children. However, everyone is different, my grandmother died when I was a baby but my grandfather lasted well into his 90s and was always relatively with it. I also have friends whose parents died when they were young. I think you just have to make the best of what you have and not let age worry you.

I had my first at 34, and my 4th and last at 42, I'm looking forward to a joint birthday party! Enjoy your pregnancy, it's absolutely nothing to do with anyone else. Flowers

When I had my son, I thought I might be the oldest mum at the school gates but quite a few were my age. I will be 60 when my son now 16 will be 18. I don't feel my age (most of the time lol) have done all the things younger mums might or might not do with their children... Water slides, football, cricket, nerf gun fights even been a WWE wrestling buddy 😂 and the less physical side of parenting. Its not about age it's what you put in and get back from your kids.

Keepitonthedownlow · 06/07/2021 20:47

The thing people are forgetting is that the age you have your DC is very often not a choice, some many external variables have an impact. It's like someone with good health being smug when often they are just lucky.
