What changes would you bring in?

What would you get rid of/implement?

Let's hear it - I'm intrigued :)

Ban anyone who uses the phrase "experimental vaccine". I would also ban myself as I waste time arguing with such posters.

AlfonsoTheMango · 30/06/2021 15:33

I'd change the quote function so that only portions of a post - rather than the whole post - can be copied.

This is because (1) sometimes only a portion of a message is relevant and (2) it's annoying to see a long post quoted in its entirety when the second poster adds only "I totally agree".

Ihatefish · 30/06/2021 17:04

Introduce free speech😄

Chicchicchicchiclana · 30/06/2021 17:06

Just two things.

Reduce the number of Talk topics.

Move non-Aibu threads out of AIBU.

I haven't got my head round the recent changes to FWR but I'd probably unchange that too.

Sssshhhhh, we’ve only just got the quote function!
Chicchicchicchiclana · 30/06/2021 17:09

Sorry, another one.

Ban anyone who gets upset because another poster doesn't like their child's name or their choice of home/garden furnishings. Mumsnet is for grown ups.

And ban anyone who quotes the OP post in the thread! Clearly we're all replying to that unless we quote something else!

Have a quick and easy way of adding emojis when you're using a Mac (or is it just me?).

Chicchicchicchiclana · 30/06/2021 17:15

@UhtredRagnarson

Controversial but I’d allow troll hunting.
I'm not sure I would allow it exactly but I'd certainly not ban long-term posters who know the ropes just because they did a little Hmm on an obvious troll thread.

I think that's just you. I can add 'em on my Macbook or iphone with no bother.
DynamoKev · 30/06/2021 17:19

Instant perma ban for anyone using bollockspeak phrases like "going forward"

Yeah that’s kind of where I am too. I’m not even really talking about troll hunting but it’s what HQ have called it when I’ve seen people question discrepancies etc. I’ve been here long enough to recognise some regulars who fudge the facts and then deny they’ve ever posted before. Lots of people invest time trying to help people who will never act on it and don’t actually want it. I’d like to be able to straight out say it on a thread and not be deleted and called a troll Hunter. Because that’s not what it is. They’re not trolling and I’m not hunting. Just warning people not to waste their time.

AlternativePerspective · 30/06/2021 17:29

I would refuse to delete threads on the poster’s request. Even if they claim they could be “outing.” Everyone knows that “outing” is code for “I’m not getting the answer I wanted.

People should think about what they’re posting, and once it’s posted then tough, you don’t get to take it back.

Incidentally, what did the deletion message say?

tealappeal · 30/06/2021 17:38

@DynamoKev

Sorry, I wasn't very clear. I can do the bracket ones, but would like to be able to click a button and see a selection of interesting ones. I don't often need to add a daffodil or a football, but there are plenty of times I'd like to add a heart or a hug or even a bit of sunshine.

59seconds · 30/06/2021 18:05

Put search results in date order
And ban swearing (though I realise that might not be popular Smile).

ShitPoetryClub · 30/06/2021 18:26

Stop all the creepy threads in their tracks.
I've felt uneasy many times about threads where someone's 12 year old is seeing a 20year old, this is child abuse. MN should intervene.

Then there's the ones that run along the lines of my 9 year old seems to be developing at what age did you notice your child growing breasts/has a vaginal discharge and tons of posters oblige going into unnecessary detail. I always imagine some perv sat reading it amusing himself Sad

Very good point, we also have the very regular piss troll. Sadly a large number of MNers indulge them with glee.
SupermanInk · 30/06/2021 18:37

This.

They’re very obvious to see. I can’t believe the ones left to stand just because the poster has a couple of weeks posting history. And I’m always shocked at people happy to post such personal information, especially about their children.

AlCalavicci · 30/06/2021 19:27

I agree with a time limited edit option , but I would have it at no longer then two mins and you can only correct a obvious spelling mistake or autocorrect although I have seen some great threads where a genuine typo leads to a great thread .

I would also like a temp book mark , many times I have read a post and thought I can answerer that / would like to know more / agree / disagree etc but I am only 2 pages into a 10 page thread so I will RTFT and to see if anyone has said what I am thinking come back to it , only to find that I cant remember the posters name so can't tag / quote them .
A temp book mark would take you back to that particular post so I can quote it but the book mark would auto delete once I left that thread

HeyDemonsItsYaGirl · 30/06/2021 19:27

Automatic ban for anybody who uses the phrase "safeguarding issue"

ErrolTheDragon · 30/06/2021 19:29

I'd make typing @MNHQ auto mail the poster to let them know the correct ways to contact MNHQ.

Ah come on - no one wants to fucking ban swearing now do they! this is not the 1600s

Apols all. We took this one down briefly whilst we checked things out behind the scenes. It's back now.
Actual lol.

You could at least explain the difference between this post and the original deletion message. And on a thread about how we would change MN if we were in charge. Priceless.
