What changes would you bring in?

What would you get rid of/implement?

Let's hear it - I'm intrigued :)

@tallduckandhandsome

Ban all the racists.
I would vote for you 🙂👍
@MyrrAgain Yes!! Especially when the “abbreviation” doesn’t actually shorten anything! “DDog”…just no!! Instaban Grin
YABU

all dogs are dear dogs!
unless they are dickhead dogs.
works either way

tallduckandhandsome · 30/06/2021 00:01

@peachyandkeen

100% with you on this one *@tallduckandhandsome*
Sorry meant to quote you, OP, not me 😂
QueenBee52 · 30/06/2021 00:02

@MyrrAgain

Stop all the abbreviations. What's with all the "dear" this and that anyway? Why are they always dear?

I agree.. I find this very weird 😳

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 30/06/2021 00:03

@tallduckandhandsome

you wally🤣🤣🤣

Yes thanks!! Just write "my son" or whatever. I have never ever referred to my son as "dear son" to anyone. I don't call him it nor talk about him to others as being my dear son.
I also thought CF was cunt face for a long time, but now I think it's cheeky fucker... So see, these things are important! No more abbreviations! Apart from maybe YANBU. Cause can't be arsed to write that one out...

There should at least be an easily accessible / obviously placed list of abbreviations somewhere on here!

Close lots of the sections. There are far too many and most are not used.
Ban anyone asking for or hinting for money.
Have proper night mods.
Introduce a time-limited edit button.
In reality, quickly sell MN and transfer the proceedings to a Swiss bank account.

Add some kind of obvious in your face message or a really loud bell sound, neon flashing lights or something to stop people resurrecting zombie threads. Especially if there has been some kind of tragedy since the first opening post.

BrightShark · 30/06/2021 00:20

Send all the rude and mean posters on here DMs reminding them that the people on the receiving end of their posts are REAL people with feelings.

I’ve been upset by horrible replies before and barely post now as a result. I don’t understand why some people are such vipers on here.

I often read rude or judgemental replies and imagine how the OP is feeling. I do think mumsnet is a place to avoid if your mental health is precarious as it can be really brutal.

Someone asked where their 2nd hand kitchen cabinet is from so they could buy more. A poster came on to ask why they wanted to buy more, as the kitchen looks horrible. Sad thing is these types of replies are really common.

Or have an automatic close function after a certain time which only the OP can unlock if they want to update the thread.

I remember that exact kitchen thread! With the green/sage (ish) units. I did feel bad for the OP. I think that lots of posters on here (including me sometimes) can be a bit brutal because that seems to be the culture, rightly or wrongly. But there is no excuse for bulling or outright nastiness

Yes, I thought STBXH was 'shtty bst*rd ex-husband' for ages!

I'd make it possible to opt out of all non-essential cookies with one or two clicks, rather than being forced to spend 10 minutes going through every vendor.

I'd also have two categories of threads for zombie-spotting purposes: if it's a time-sensitive subject, all well and good when people call somebody out for criticising an OP's choice of baby name when said baby will now be 11 or the cancel the cheque scenarios; but when it's not a time-sensitive thread, such as 'what's the funniest thing you've ever witnessed at......?', I'd sternly warn off all the zombie-callers, as it really makes no difference whether you're recounting a hilarious wedding moment from 3 months ago or 30 years ago.

I'd also impose some kind of sanction on people who haven't RTFT or even all of the OP's posts. You can't just wade in with your 'unique gem' of a comment that has already been made 50 times and, if your beef is that the thread is too long for you to bother reading, for what purpose would you want to add your piece and thus make it longer for everybody else to read?

There is.

Click on the menu button next to the large TALK at the top of the page, there you will find a drop down list of links including one to the acronyms.
The list may not be entirely complete but it's got a lot of the commoner ones.

(This is in the browser)

Honestly I think this is the most sensible thing I have ever read on here. I completely agree. It is BEYOND frustrating when people haven't taken the time to read what's going on! How is it so hard to at least just properly read the OP???

what is 'a reverse'?
ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 30/06/2021 00:45

also I wish that I could hide & unwatch deleted threads I had posted on.

I'm unable to do it permanently- they seem to disappear when I do it but they are back the next day.
sick of dead Groundhog threads clogging up my "I'm on"!

I'd make sure they self-destruct after the MNHQ notification was read
