What changes would you bring in?

What would you get rid of/implement?

Let's hear it - I'm intrigued :)

Lokdok have you just namechanged because you couldn't reply to the previous post?

HaveringWavering · 01/07/2021 14:42

It’s very easy to avoid the gender-related discussions. Mumsnet is only k own as “transphobia central” by people who have nothing better to do than go out looking for transphobia. The rest of us are blissfully unaware as we go about our discussions of parking transgressions, annoying MiLs and LTB-worthy conduct.

toconclude · 01/07/2021 15:02

@tallduckandhandsome

Ban all the racists.
And all the closet and not so closet transphobes, including all the 'ooh, it's just women's rights, I'm GC not a transphobe, they're all just wanting to rape us/our daughters and do experiments on kids etc etc bollocks'

@AlGorithim

The MNHQ gaslighting members over the 1000 posts per page thing is just bizarre. They did the same thing over the ‘hide thread’ button and I honestly thought I was losing my mind for a while.

I used to have 1000 posts per page. This suddenly disappeared overnight without me changing anything and when I raised it, MNHQ made me jump through the usual hoops of saying what browser, what version, have you tried a different browser, switch it off and on again bollocks, but each reply was weeks in between. Finally, they just ghosted me and I kept asking for an update because I’m bloody minded like that and MNHQ just ignored me.

Secondly, there used to be a button next to threads to hide the thread without having to click into it. Again, overnight it suddenly vanished so I asked about it and MNHQ basically said ‘what button, we don’t know what you’re talking about, send us a screen shot’. Of course, I couldn’t because it wasn’t there any more, but they literally pretended they had no idea what I meant.

Both of the above lead me to believe that not only is MNHQ technically under-served, but the moderators don’t have any understanding of technical issues and so just fob users off hoping that they will go away or the problem will somehow magically fix itself.

I agree with all of this. Any report of anything on the "site stuff" is met with incredulity and disbelief and then a request for a plethora of irrelevant information. The fact that 20+ users are reporting the exact same issue suddenly doesn't make any difference.

In the great hacking scandal I foolishly tried to help out - someone who claimed to be high up in MN tech told me that I was the victim of Phishing (I wasn't) because they had redefined Phishing as using MN normally after it had been hacked.

HaveringWavering · 01/07/2021 15:23

No, it's known as transphobia central because the most cursory glance most days takes you right there. But way to be utterly disingenuous and dishonest.

Really? Show me where on the home page there is ANY indication whatsoever of this site being a hotbed of gender-related controversy? I am not kidding, I have been on MN for over 10 years, looking at it most days and contributing to a huge range of threads. It came as a total surprise to me when the press started to refer to it as a place where such discussions took place and even then it took me a while to find them. By the way, I will be reporting you for the personal attack re my being dishonest.

HaveringWavering · 01/07/2021 15:29

Also reposting this without the quotation from your soon-to-be deleted post.

Do people accuse Twitter of also being "transphobia central".
I welcome MN allowing these issues to be debated.
If I have understood correctly, recent legal judgement (correctly) supports the right to at least express an opinion.

Lokdok · 01/07/2021 16:09

drspouse, no I changed my name ages ago. What was I supposed to be replying to?

You don't have to look hard for transphobic content. Open the feminist board. Trust me, I really wasn't looking for it but was DISGUSTED with what I found!

Anonymous48 · 01/07/2021 16:11

@MyrrAgain

Stop all the abbreviations. What's with all the "dear" this and that anyway? Why are they always dear?
Absolutely! Is it so hard to write my husband or my son?
TheArtfulCodger · 01/07/2021 16:19

Ooh dear, all the hateful transphobes discussing the erosion of women's sex based rights - how dare women do that! Unlike all the lovely TRAs on twitter etc who are so calm and gentle. Never attack, never threaten, never abuse, just sweetness and light. Can't understand why women want to retain single sex spaces at all - makes no sense.

peachyandkeen · 01/07/2021 16:22

@DadJoke

Get rid of the transphobes, so that mumsnet is no longer widely known as "transphobia central" when it's a only a small part of an important community. Racism, homophobia and transphobia aren't literally illegal, but there's no need to have them here.
Racism, homophobia, and transphobia are not illegal.
OP posts:
peachyandkeen · 01/07/2021 16:23

And the world would be a far better place if they were illegal.

Get rid of the tedious TRAs who are determined to label women discussing their rights as "transphobes".

Anonymous48 · 01/07/2021 16:34

@MichaelMumsnet

Apols all. We took this one down briefly whilst we checked things out behind the scenes. It's back now.
Ban "apols". The word is "apologies".
CardinalLolzy · 01/07/2021 16:50

Ban people who knowingly and willfully misrepresent views that are clearly stated in text by pretending they say something else.

CardinalLolzy · 01/07/2021 16:52

I mean, it's arguably breaching the civility guidelines, yet for some reason continues all over the place.

WorraLiberty · 01/07/2021 17:08

I'd see that MNHQ applied their own talk guidelines and deleted reverse threads.

"No trolling, misleading or deliberately inflammatory behaviour"

I'd also ban people from name changing for stupid reasons...eg "Name changed because I know most of you will disagree with me", or "Name changed because this is outing" when it's clearly not and they're just being controversial/shit stirring before they slip back into their 'nice' name again.

CiaoForNiao · 01/07/2021 17:16

@ThursdayWeld

Get rid of the tedious TRAs who are determined to label women discussing their rights as "transphobes".
This. Stating biological facts is not transphobia. Not wanting bepenised people in what should be women's only paces is not transphobia.
ThursdayWeld · 01/07/2021 17:40

Maybe we should start labelling TRAs discussing their rights as "womanphobes".

As for running MN, I would improve the app.

Chicchicchicchiclana · 01/07/2021 17:56

@HaveringWavering

I got gaslighted too re a tech issue- they didn’t believe that it used to be possible to remove a thread from “I’m on” by clicking on three little dots. Has been really annoying having deleted threads and ones I have lost interest in cluttering up the “I’m on” list but they never even admitted they took that function away.
Yes. You used to be able to delete a thread in active conversations without opening it first. I guess it's all about the number of clicks.
JudgeJ · 01/07/2021 17:59

@IAmJustWondering

Allow loads of fucking expletives 😂
There are rules regarding language??
ahoyshipmates · 01/07/2021 18:08

I can still see up to 1,000 posts on threads.
Go me. Grin No idea why other people can't.

An edit button that works for a couple of minutes so you can correct typos would be great.

Ban rabblerousers, soapboxers and GFs. And those who start dramatic and/or controversial threads and never post on it again.

Have a "Here's a lazy journalist posting an OP to get loads of comments for their article" klaxon emoji so we can warn innocent posters to just leave the thread alone.

araiwa · 01/07/2021 18:18

I'd moderate aibu

Move every non aibu thread to the correct forum

'aibu to ask for your favourite cheesecake recipe?' has been moved to cookery forum etc
