What changes would you bring in?

What would you get rid of/implement?

Let's hear it - I'm intrigued :)

Stop banning people for acknowledging biology.

Stop appeasing others including advertisers at the expense of women and children.

Listen to users cos the site doesn’t exist without them.

Ban the ‘lighthearted’ threads that are nothing more than ‘I want to be a nasty cunt about a ‘celeb’ and if I call it lighthearted it’s fine.

SupermanInk · 30/06/2021 00:49

I would also like to see it made mandatory to change usernames every few months. There’s a few posters who others just agree with because of who they are. They’re often quite nasty but have a following even when they’re talking absolute nasty shite... which is most of the time.

ErrolTheDragon · 30/06/2021 00:50

what is 'a reverse'?

When someone starts a thread, usually an AIBU, about an issue but which purports to be from the other side of the argument to the OPs actual views. The aim is to garner lots of YABUs.

If I ran MN for a day I'd probably waste half of it trying to be helpful. Grin

HeddaGarbled · 30/06/2021 00:54

Immediately ban blatantly obvious liars with outrageously unlikely stories about cheeky-fucker friends, relatives (especially in-laws), neighbours (especially “middle-aged”) and brides.

Immediately ban any poster who goes from “I’m a bit upset with my husband” to “I’ve found a lovely flat to rent, my solicitor says I should get everything I want and I’ve just shagged a much nicer man” in the space of a fortnight.

Immediately ban any poster who posts a picture of a blatantly unsuitable outfit and asks whether it’s OK to wear it to a wedding, funeral or job interview.

yacketyyak · 30/06/2021 00:55

I'd bring back Phyllis!

peachyandkeen · 30/06/2021 00:59

@yacketyyak who is Phyllis?

OP posts:
QueenBee52 · 30/06/2021 00:59

yes who is Phyllis 🤔

Toesies · 30/06/2021 07:15

Toss a heap of nasty posters off the Coronavirus board - they dominate it and drown out any other voices.

SimonJT · 30/06/2021 07:19

Require all users to prove who they are via ID before they are allowed to post again, users who refuse have their account deleted.

Name changing banned.

Racism taken seriously by the moderation team, one strike and you’re out.

AmIPeriOrAreYouJustAnnoying · 30/06/2021 07:35

Add the ability to edit posts.

& create a Women & Girls Sex Based Rights section.

Remove the racism.

Get rid of all the sycophantic royal family threads.

That's all.

DinosaurDiana · 30/06/2021 07:39

I’d have a ‘like’ button.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 30/06/2021 07:45

Give the Corona doom mongers a special board so the rest of us can easily avoid the doom and gloom.

Plus a special board for 'do I have to isolate' or not understanding contact tracing.

AuntieStella · 30/06/2021 07:47

I'd move threads to its proper topic, leaving AIBU to proper AIBUs, and putting more into chat and the themed topics.

And clamp down on the ageism

2 weeks suspension for all posters who publish here really shitty things from the bottom feeders of the Internet in the guise of condemning them - if it's unacceptable there, don't repeat / publish exact screenshots here. Discussing the phenomenon is one thing. Actually publishing the gross stuff is blatantly wrong.

Do something about the intrusive ads.

AuntieStella · 30/06/2021 07:48

Oh, and I'd ban anyone for using the phrase 'doom-monger'

toomuchtooold · 30/06/2021 07:53

I would add a function where - privately, not so other people could see it - you could tag other posters with your own custom tags. Then once I see someone expressing an opinion I think is really awful, I can tag them as a numpty and not be upset or surprised when they do it again.

I'd also delete the fucking Biscuit

toomuchtooold · 30/06/2021 07:55

@yacketyyak

I'd bring back Phyllis!
Not @whatwouldphylliscranedo, is she gone? I played a couple of very fun games of Among Us with her!
BIoodyStupidJohnson · 30/06/2021 07:59

Yeah I’d have a tougher line on racism and homophobia.

Also I’d try to stop the blatant forum-sliding that goes on especially on the corona threads. You get the start of an interesting discussion going on and then some person with an agenda comes on and starts dolloping post after post after post of ranting, drunk-sounding irrelevance until the thread gets deleted.

looptheloopinahulahoop · 30/06/2021 08:04

An edit button is the main one - but agree it should be time limited so you can't go back and change something because you didn't like the responses to it.

And I would ban the stronger swearing - no need for it at all.

And improve, encourage more use of, the search facility.

Oh and for zombie threads we need something stronger than the current message to disencourage people to post. Or maybe lock threads after a year? Although I suppose people do come back and update occasionally.

StillCalmX · 30/06/2021 08:07

Id give red cards to posters who post to say "well you had a child with him" when some poor distressed abused trapped mother finally posts looking for help.

ErrolTheDragon · 30/06/2021 08:10

Oh and for zombie threads we need something stronger than the current message to disencourage people to post. Or maybe lock threads after a year? Although I suppose people do come back and update occasionally.

I'd have thought that was easy enough to solve. Lock after some period since the last post, but MNHQ could reopen if someone requests it with a reason. That would stop threads being resurrected by spammers and shitstirrers, but allow genuine updates.

StillCalmX · 30/06/2021 08:10

I love the "can i wear this to a wedding?" posts.
It's always some sort of WHITE DRESS 😆

ErrolTheDragon · 30/06/2021 08:15

I wouldn't bother with an edit button (seems to me it would just encourage sloppiness) but I'd get Tech to implement a 'review post' function on the app - you can't tell if markup has been mangled before posting.

3Britnee · 30/06/2021 08:18

I'd allow free speech.

3Britnee · 30/06/2021 08:19

I'd also sanction and then ban posters that repeatedly report posts just because they don't like what is being said.

gurglebelly · 30/06/2021 08:21

Have an auto delete for any posts in AIBU that feature the words 'not really AIBU but posting for traffic'
