To feel a bit sad for my DS 16

My DS 16, just left school. He’s not academic, didn’t like school or get particularly good exam grades, messed around a lot, hung around with the more ‘spirited’, but he’s essentially a good person who has a good heart. His girlfriend is very bright, just got great GCSE results and this weekend her friend organised a party to celebrate leaving school.
My DS was not invited, when she asked why she was told it was because he was in the wrong ‘friendship group’ and others felt intimidated by his presence. She also said that people generally when they see him deliberately walk on the other side of the road to avoid him. He’s tall, wears hoodies and a base ball cap. AIBU to think this is incredibly petty or are teenagers generally this fickle?

Are you in Wales MagnificentBottom? I think they've released their exam results this week...
I think it sounds like your son isn't coming across particularly well to some of his peers. My dd definitely would not invite someone who hangs out with the disruptive kids to her party, no matter how nice their mother thinks they are! Years of disrupted lessons, 'banter', oiks pushing in the corridors etc have left their mark and to be honest she was glad to see the back of them when she went to college!

HasaDigaEebowai · 20/06/2021 23:16

My comment had a typo. I said

Yeah you probably wouldn’t laugh so much if they and he (your son) had disrupted your school career.

Ie The girl and her friends don’t like him because he’s part of the naughty disruptive crowd.

MagnificentBottom · 20/06/2021 23:17

@SnarkyBag

Oh dear OP has her blinkers on shall go to bed now as this will be an

AIBU?

No I’m not you’re all wrong, I’m right my child is amazing and all the girls are meaners.

And yes if he smokes weed they probably don't want him coming and bringing drugs to their parents house or inviting his yob mates.

nimbuscloud · 20/06/2021 23:17

According to govt website they are released on 12th August in England and Wales.

HasaDigaEebowai · 20/06/2021 23:18

Op why did you post when you’re clearly not interested in what everyone is saying

And yes I would say teenagers can be fickle and different friendship groups do often sometime not mix

What do you mean? If I wasn’t interested I wouldn’t have responded?

Lol at him being a weed smoker who is “naughty” and “spirited” but the reason the mean girls don’t like him is he wears a hat.

MirandaWest · 20/06/2021 23:19

Sounds like they are being given out in Wales

Weird

Does it not worry you ? I'd be worried sick if my teen was failing academically, in with a bad crowd, thought of as intimidating.
I certainly wouldn't be finding it funny.

Lulola · 20/06/2021 23:20

They were released on Thursday

They’re embargoed. So either you’ve sent him to a school that hasn’t a clue what they are meant to do or you are lying.

They can decide who they invite or not, no matter how much you think your son is a little angel and that his friends naughty behaviour is funny, it doesn’t mean other people have to lower their standards to this level or put themselves in uncomfortable situations. If he wants to be invited next time then he has to reflect on his actions and improve them, maybe with honest help and not just being told he is perfect.

nimbuscloud · 20/06/2021 23:20

His friends also shoplift...

worriedatthemoment · 20/06/2021 23:21

@MagnificentBottom tbf the website says england and wales , you could of easily said as its nor normal to get them and in england they have been kept closely guarded wit no indication

MagnificentBottom · 20/06/2021 23:21

Why would you think he has drugs and yobish mates?!

Yes you’re right, this thread is about me making up GCSE results

Well from what you've said - his friends are intimidating, spirited, naughty, people cross the road then they're yobbish. Presumed the weed from what someone said about your previous posts.

Birkie248 · 20/06/2021 23:23

@haveaday

Also confused about GCSE results. They don't come out til August. How can you have them already?
GCSE results are released on 12th August.
worriedatthemoment · 20/06/2021 23:23

@Lulola looks like in wales they are being given out early , whilst in england they have to wait
Not sure what happens iif they don't agree with marking as would assume they have to send off proof etc

@worriedatthemoment

Gcse have not been released in any area they are all released on the same date
Yes they are being released. They are released by the school before being sent to the exam board so that they can be appealed if necessary. My nephew got his last week and my son gets his on Friday. The results day in August is a formality but the children will already know their grades. This is what is happening in Wales, not sure if this is the case in the other uk nations.
worriedatthemoment · 20/06/2021 23:25

@MerchSwyddEfrog no this isn't happening in england they have to wait and could not even be told predicted
