DH thinks this is disgusting

Feel free to absolutely let me have it but me out please.
We live in a house with a downstairs toilet/bathroom which is the absolute bane of my existence 🙄
I'm 33 weeks pregnant so I feel like I need to have a wee basically every half hour these days. I've been managing going downstairs every night when I wake up for the past few months but I've reached the end of my tether. I just can't do it anymore 😭😭 My back aches, my bump is in the way, I'm exhausted and nauseated and I'm just ready to have baby already 😑
I need multiple trips to the toilet and I just can handle going downstairs that many times in one night.

So yes I have bought myself a little travel potty with a lid which I use. 🙈🙈🙈
It's out on the landing so not in our bedroom and I empty it and clean it first thing in the morning I swear!

It's made such a difference to me but DH thinks it's absolutely disgusting.
I know he has every right to think that but what would you do in my shoes 😅 AIBU?

I also nearly tripped on the stairs a few times because I'm half asleep going down them.
We're currently house hunting and definitely won't be making the same mistake going for downstairs loo.

Wake him up every time you need to loo, explain you are uncomfortable using the stairs alone at the moment. He’ll get over the travel potty very quickly when you disturb him continuously.

ELOU1111 · 20/06/2021 20:41

Needs must. Wont go into detail but last year I had to have a poo behind my garage and picked it up in a dog poo bag to throw away! Did wash my hands of course!

Pinkypink · 20/06/2021 20:42

Just pee in the bed.

He's being a selfish twat

bigbaggyeyes · 20/06/2021 20:45

Ha! Wait until his first born has poo'd so much it's coming out the top of the baby grow!

He's being ridiculous, if it helps, I had the same issue and I had a bucket on the landing Grin

mussymummy · 20/06/2021 20:52

I feel your pain i was in the same situation when pregnant and it sucked.
In all honesty you need to tell him to get a grip, how the hell is he going to cope when your baby arrives if he thinks this is gross?

FierceBarrie · 20/06/2021 21:06

Do whatever you need to do, but a quick google puts the ‘urine is sterile’ myth to bed.

ScottsThots · 20/06/2021 21:26

@Pinklittle

I'm currently 39 weeks pregnant, downstairs bathroom with steep stairs, it's a bloody nightmare! You just gotta do what you gotta do, whatever you are most comfortable with has to be the best. I personally haven't gone down this route as I'm up that blinking much now there is no way a potty would contain all the wees haha! Good luck OP xx
Omg I'm dreading the fact that I'm going to need to go even MORE times than I do now in a few weeks' time 😮‍💨😮‍💨😮‍💨

@Tossblanket

Hahaha,

Here's a little secret. I've been redoing upstairs bathroom and we're at the 1 year point due to work and childcare.

So this is exactly what we did, folding bivvy toilet with a bag and cat litter in bedroom.

Because neither of us can be arsed going downstairs in the middle of the night 😂

Need to finish this bathroom off really lol.

Hahaha glad I'm not the only one. Some people seem to think the excuse of 'can't be arsed' to go downstairs for a wee is simply not reason enough. Oh well 😂🤣

Pentamix · 20/06/2021 21:38

I think he’s lucky you aren’t pissing in a bucket in your bedroom! Not very kind of him to call it disgusting. He should care more about your comfort and not having to trek up and down the stairs 20 times a night.

ScottsThots · 20/06/2021 21:38

@Member869894

I cant help thinking that going downstairs shouldn't be that hard - you're pregnant not ill
Yes but pregnancy comes with a myriad of side effects and physical changes that take a huge toll on your body😑

@BaronessBomburst

I live in the Netherlands where a lot of houses only have a toilet downstairs. This is one of the things that the midwives will check for and they'll arrange the hire of a commode for anyone who doesn't have an upstairs toilet. The costs are covered by the health insurance. It's considered dangerous for a heavily pregnant woman to be trapsing up and down the stairs half-asleep.
Sounds like I should move there 😆😆

@Ineke

Have you tried a shwee bottle, you won’t have to crouch down so low with that These are a god send during festivals or camping. . Your husband is being very uncaring and a bit unrealistic I think, there is nothing gross about peeing into a potty or small camping loo. Like someone has said, you will one day have potties all around the house during training. It’s not as if you are weeing in the shower which I have heard a lot of men do!
First I've heard of these and they sound like just what I need 😊😊

If this is freaking him out I wouldn't let him anywhere near your birth let alone the poor pissy, shitty, pukey baby! Seriously (and I apologise if its already been suggested, couldn't read all the thread) you could tell him that in that case you need your large comfy bed downstairs and he can bloody well move the furniture in order to accommodate this. Good luck with your birth and new babe SmileFlowers

ScottsThots · 20/06/2021 21:42

@Petalplucker

So sorry op. Your dh should be more supportive. If he finds it so disgusting he could always volunteer to run up and downstairs to empty it.

And BTW (this really is a bit gross tbh) after my c section, I had to have my urine output monitored, which meant I had to pee in to a metal pan thing at the hospital. The only problem was that I could barely walk, never mind lower myself up and down easily, and I was passing blood clots, so my husband not only had to support me to walk to the bathroom and sit down, he was also witness to all the yuckiness, but he was still really kind and matter of fact about it, and behaved as it was all perfectly normal and fine, and he never commented or made me feel worse than I already did as it was so undignified. In fact we now look back on that moment as a time when we lost most of our inhibitions with one another and got much closer. He is not good with blood either! So you need to prepare your dh for the fact that a bit of urine is nothing in the scheme of things.

Good luck with the birth op, I hope your dh steps up when it matters and treats you well Flowers

Oh wow that must have been such a tough time. Good on your DH for being supportive 😊

@Toomuchtrouble4me

Climb into bed in a sexy camisole and a huge giant adult in continence nappy and see if he prefers that. (If he does, run for the hills).
Lmao 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Deidre21 · 20/06/2021 21:44

Nothing wrong with that and you’re cleaning it /emptying it each morning. It’s only wee and isn’t poo that’s standing overnight that would clearly give off a strong smell by/before morning.

He is being very unreasonable as it’s not as though he is emptying the potty.
Your comfort during these stages are what’s more important.

ScottsThots · 20/06/2021 21:47

@Babysharkdododododododododod

We had the exact same thing, I was huge and couldn’t keep going up and down the stairs. Husband actually came up with the idea of a potty!

Just be very careful when taking said potty downstairs to empty, my foot slipped one time and I ended up falling and soaking myself in my own wee 😂

Oh noooo 😲😲😅😅 I pray this never happens lol
OP posts:
Workinghardeveryday · 20/06/2021 21:51

I did the same years ago!! Only it was a bucket 😬😂

ohsuzannah · 20/06/2021 22:00

I had a nappy bucket with a lid in the spare bedroom and used that Smile

cherish123 · 20/06/2021 22:24

It's disgusting.

Don't be such a snowflake. Just go downstairs. How would you cope if you were I'll?

shinynewapple21 · 20/06/2021 22:30

So you have a spare room you could put a camping toilet in rather than in the landing ? I'm worrying about you tripping over it .

Petalplucker · 20/06/2021 22:42

@cherish123

She is ill. Did you read the bit in the op where she says, "My back aches, my bump is in the way, I'm exhausted and nauseated ". ?
TheBigFatMermaid · 20/06/2021 22:59

I am disabled and could not sleep anywhere with a downstairs toilet.

At one point, I had to sleep downstairs with a commode. My 9 year old DD had to do this. You are sorting yours yourself.

Ask the manchild you have made a baby with how he's going to cope with baby nappies!

IAmAWomanNotACis · 20/06/2021 23:04

@cherish123

It's disgusting.

If she were ill and needed to rush to the loo I'd also expect her to be able to implement using the porta potti upstairs because accidents - either brown ones or falling down the stairs ones - on the way to the bathroom downstairs are way worse than using a temporary loo. Hmm Don't be such an arse to a stranger on the internet.

IAmAWomanNotACis · 20/06/2021 23:08

Do the people who think it's disgusting also think nappy bins are disgusting?
