Any Carers here who are not taking the vaccine?

It's apparently been confirmed now that it is compulsory for care home workers and other carers to take the vaccine.

I just got a job in a care home, and I've always said no to the vaccine. Mainly because of the things I've seen and read of people who've had the vaccine. Blood clots, death, rashes, and people still getting covid after taking the vaccine.

I don't know what to do now.

@Jennobop

Let’s see the death toll within 5 years from this vaccine. It’s lethal and people are queuing up to put it in their arm. The Mind boggles
I don’t think you know how vaccines work.

I don’t think you know how vaccines work.

This one doesn’t work in the way that traditional vaccines do.

You say that like it’s a bad thing @Mrstumblesspottyface

I’m just saying you can’t really compare.

BlatantlyNameChanged · 18/06/2021 09:58

Yes, it does. A vaccine primes your immune system to recognise a specific threat, the covid vaccines are no different in this.

alwayswithhope · 18/06/2021 10:01

An interesting study was released yesterday on vaccine hesitancy which linked it to a lack of knowledge.

“ Participants in the study completed a series of tasks designed to find out what they think about the vaccine, how much they know about it, what they see as the greatest risks and benefits, and whether they plan to take it.

A multiple choice quiz asked them questions on what they knew about the effectiveness of the jab, the development process, possible side effects and cost.

The minority of participants planning not to take the vaccine, or who were unsure, scored substantially more poorly on the quiz than the majority planning to take it.

Those planning to take the vaccine got an average score of 67 per cent, compared with 50 per cent for those who were unsure and just 37 per cent for those planning not to take it.

Participants were also asked to list their thoughts about the risks and benefits of the vaccine.

Most people listed at least one risk, but there was a big difference in the listing of benefits.

Only five per cent of those planning not to take the vaccine and around 50 per cent of those who were unsure listed any benefit at all. This compared with 91 per cent of people planning to take it.”

Two things here.

A) "This one" - There are different covid vaccines out there.

B) "This is not a traditional vaccine" - The Pfizer and Moderna ones are new but still very much the same as others in that they lead the human cells to produce a key viral protein so that the immune system builds a response to it.
Other vaccines are "traditional", as in they use a virus to deliver the vaccine. There are many types of vaccines out there. Too many to list here. A "traditional" vaccine would actually be more like an attenuated version of the virus - think BCG or rabies.

It just shows lack of knowledge about covid vaccination, and vaccines in general, to be very honest.
How you think you can make decisions about being vaccinated with this lack of knowledge is beyond me.

RampantIvy · 18/06/2021 10:09

The findings from the survey are clearly illustrated by some of the more bonkers assertions on this thread @alwayswithhope Sad

This was not for BlatantlyNameChanged, of course.

ThePants999 · 18/06/2021 10:18

@Maybevaccine
It's just very scary to read about perfectly healthy people getting blood clots

Blood clots have been observed in ~4 people out of every million given the AZ vaccine, and ~40 out of every million who get COVID. Get the vaccine.

wavybaby · 18/06/2021 10:32

Actually sticky blood IS an issue and can very well be linked to the vaccine, this is what our family member had been found to have after contracting VITT (Vaccine induced Thrombosis and Thrombocytopenia). The medical team were aware it was an issue.

Just wondering how many members of Mumsnet, are from industry (pharmaceuticals/telecoms et al?!) and how many are paid to be on here to lobby/shut down open discussion????!!!

jillybeanclevertips · 18/06/2021 10:41

Are you a carer or a Don'tcarer ? Getting the vaccine is the only way we are going to really beat this virus is for the world to be vaccinated. the vaccine can only survive if humans give it a place to breed. Its actually not rocket science. just plain good sense.IMO anybody not getting the vaccine is a public nuisance and should be ostracised and denied public health.

Luminousnose · 18/06/2021 10:43

@youshouldbeplotting
4.6 million have contracted covid in the UK. 128k people have died of covid and 376k people have long covid
So we’re talking about half a million people in the UK either dying or having serious long-term illness post-Covid? That is NOT a small proportion of people being fatally or seriously affected (roughly 1 in 9 of the people and 1 in 130 of the whole population I think?). I just really can’t get my head around people not choosing to be vaccinated. Yes, I suppose there’s technically a risk that all the thousands of scientists have got it wrong, but as so many have said just being alive is a risk.

I was double-jabbed ages ago and was so pleased to hear yesterday that my 20 year old DD has her first booked for next week. All of my friends’ 18-21 year olds have also booked their jabs this morning.

Wants to go into medicine…..has “read about the vaccine” from zero scientific sources. Yeah good luck, either you believe medicine works and the many regulations are followed or you don’t, if not then don’t work in it. It’s about protecting others not reading the daily fail and believing it….

Funny, I was wondering how many are here from fringe, antivax or Qanon conspiracy nutter message boards to spread deliberate falsehoods and disinformation.

I can't understand it either. I also don't understand why posters like @eandz13 post misleading figures about road accidents in an attempt to downplay the seriousness of the situation.

I have been double jabbed too and am very bloody grateful.

youshouldbeplotting · 18/06/2021 11:05

BTW I am paid by 77th Brigade/the government/Big Pharma/Bill Gates/giant lizards to post on here about the vaccines. Grin

ResIpsaLoquiturInterAlia · 18/06/2021 11:05

Funnily I am also (to borrow your words) wondering how many are here from fringe, antivax or Qanon conspiracy nutter message boards to spread deliberate falsehoods and disinformation. Some many anti vaxx anti masks far left field Covidiots these days. Who are now doing the untested asymptomatic super spreading these days again keeping us away from full reopening of all business sectors?

I am a biologist, and I work for a university on biomedical research and teaching..
I'm actually taking time away from work to reply to inane posts on MN. Blush
Funnily enough, I tend to refer to expert colleagues that know much more about virus, vaccines, and epidemiology, rather than think that I know something they don't.

If I was to approach a big Pharma company to be paid to post here for them, they would laugh their arses off.

Lweji · 18/06/2021 11:23

Also, "the vaccine" is not open discussion. It is something that doesn't exist.

If anyone really wants open discussion and to discuss the merits or risks of each particular vaccine, great, but that's not really what this thread is about, is it?

Oh yes, @wavybaby you've busted me. As soon as I had my first injection, I heard Bill Gates' voice in my head. He and I have daily chats. Hmm
