New neighbours - bbqing multiple times a day

bbqalldaylong · 14/06/2021 18:22

We have new neighbours. They're brand new so I have limited data on which to base my AIBU on. But here goes.

They bbq'd their dinner last night. Which I didn't care less about, it was the evening meaning my washing was in, and it's a weekend. Fine.

But today, they bbq'd their lunch, and are now back out their bbqing their sodding dinner.

AIBU in thinking this is a bit much? My house smells of acrid meat. Plus they seem to shout at each other rather than talk.

OP posts:
mumsiedarlingrevolta · 14/06/2021 19:45

Uh oh. We bbq a lot.

All year round.

we don't have a hot tub or play music.
I think we need some sort of point system? Or bingo card?

yikesanotherbooboo · 14/06/2021 19:46

We bbqed every meal requiring oven or grill one year when we lived in rented accommodation with a poorly functioning cooker. We didn't need it multiple times a day though.

RedToothBrush · 14/06/2021 19:47

Wait till they ditch Beyonce and decide to go full on Chaz and Dave Live just to wind up their grumpy neighbour.

RickiTarr · 14/06/2021 19:48

@TweedyPuu

Sounds like they're waiting for their cooker to be delivered or set up.
This. We had a whole fortnight of microwaving, takeaways, salads and BBQs after one move.
KeepingTrack · 14/06/2021 19:48

Oh come on.

A bonfire and a BBQ are nothing alike re smoke etc….

DahliaMacNamara · 14/06/2021 19:48

I hate the smell of barbecues. Maybe the people around here aren't as accomplished as all the MN barbecue masters, but to me it's normally stinky fuel followed by stinky meat. Blame my fussy little vegetarian nose for the latter. It's less antisocial than a bonfire, I'll give it that, and I wouldn't dream of complaining, but, no, I don't like it. Don't see why OP should either.

LobotomisedIceSkatingFan · 14/06/2021 19:50

Oh dear.

Someone suggested that they hadn't had their oven installed. OP replied that they were renting. This isn't 'anti-renter': this is pointing out that, while someone moving into a house they've bought might be waiting for delivery of an oven, it's less likely with a rental property as white goods tend to be provided 🙄
Someone asked if they were Persian. OP replied that they were East Asian while noting that it wasn't relevant 🙄
Best of all is the poster who thinks people can do what they like 'within the confines of their property'. They can't. That's why we have the common law tort of nuisance
🙄
I can't pretend barbecuing annoys me much, OP. Loud music does a bit. I don't think they sound great, but they'll probably knock it the fuck off after a bit. Concentrate on your move. Eyes on the prize.

MilduraS · 14/06/2021 19:52

For any fellow avid BBQ users who happen to be vegetarian.. I highly recommend Charred by Genevieve Taylor. So many recipes, so little time.

shivawn · 14/06/2021 19:55

Ok. Basically, 'fuck everyone else'

No. I doubt it even crossed their minds that one of their neighbours would be bothered by them BBQing in their own garden.

5128gap · 14/06/2021 19:55

I love a bbq but wouldn't dream of actually lighting it and subjecting my neighbours to the stench. I only buy ready cooked meat and unwrap it in the kitchen with the windows closed, so the neighbours aren't disturbed by the rustling.

twilightermummy · 14/06/2021 19:57

Why couldn’t a renter be waiting for a cooker to arrive?

Yabu.

IntoAir · 14/06/2021 19:57

YABU.

It's summer. People like to have a barbecue when we get our 3 days of summer.

Umbra · 14/06/2021 19:59

I feel your pain, op, even if nobody else does! Grin

My neighbours barbecued their lunch every day for 10 odd years, rain or shine. Same time every day. With their yappy dog, blaring radio and wine-fuelled screeching...happy days.

Oxo01 · 14/06/2021 20:01

My neighbours are Turkish lived here for 4 years so far, they have BBQ every day at 4pm up until very cold months ie Nov/ Dec.

Food smells lovely, smoke only lasts whilst the meat is cooked so not so bad.

MsMarple · 14/06/2021 20:01

Gas BBQ is one thing, but my neighbours fired up their smokey charcoal one at 11am on Saturday, so all my washing needed redoing. It would have taken 2 minutes for them to knock on the door and warn me to take it in… grrr.

Suzi888 · 14/06/2021 20:04

@bbqalldaylong

They're bbqing onions now and playing Beyoncé loudly.

Pretty sure this is a bad sign.

🤣 YANBU though. BBQ’s are smoky and it’s a bit anti social when you have neighbours.

"Someone asked me if it was a cultural thing and mentioned their Persian neighbours"

No they didn't. u mentioned it first.

moynomore · 14/06/2021 20:06

Good lord. It's summer. People are barbecuing. Deal.

Nope. Reread
BaronessOfTheNorth · 14/06/2021 20:09

YABU. I love cooking outside, as do my neighbours. Not sausages and burgers but anything else really: souvlaki, potatoes, salmon with a huge salad (not on the BBQ!).

I hate being indoors and would sleep in my garden if I could!

Oxo01 · 14/06/2021 20:09

Forgot to she speaks no English and speaks so loud with a singing tone to some words anytime they are in the garden like shouting at each other but they are just talking which can be a issue whilst WFH but if really loud I just close door / window if on a call.
No issues with them could be much worse.
@oopsyydaisyy it was me who asked about culture - my DH is Persian
my bad just read it again Wine

shouldistop · 14/06/2021 20:11

@NotPersephone that's funny. My dh is half Persian and is the same. Luckily our neighbours are normal and don't have a problem with people using their gardens.

Elphame · 14/06/2021 20:11

BBQ meat is very unhealthy - the charring produces heterocyclic amines and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons both of which are carcinogens:

OK occasionally but a really bad idea for every meal
