New neighbours - bbqing multiple times a day

We have new neighbours. They're brand new so I have limited data on which to base my AIBU on. But here goes.

They bbq'd their dinner last night. Which I didn't care less about, it was the evening meaning my washing was in, and it's a weekend. Fine.

But today, they bbq'd their lunch, and are now back out their bbqing their sodding dinner.

AIBU in thinking this is a bit much? My house smells of acrid meat. Plus they seem to shout at each other rather than talk.

OP posts:

She mentioned they're East Asian because someone asked if it might be cultural. She said herself she doesn't think it's relevant.

Barbecue hate seems to be a British thing...

mrsm43s · 14/06/2021 19:24

I like a nice bit of bbq bacon for breakfast. Even on a weekday. You're neighbours aren't even trying. They should be able to hit 3 meals a day with ease.

Comefromaway · 14/06/2021 19:24

If it's not relevant (which it isn't) why even mention it? hmm

To be fair to OP, someone asked her the question.

HeronLanyon · 14/06/2021 19:25

Maybe they think it is too hot to cook inside ?

Bluntness100 · 14/06/2021 19:25

No it’s a small amount of mumsnetter thing.
SeasonFinale · 14/06/2021 19:25

@bbqalldaylong

I'll report back if this turns into a daily thing.
Please don't bother.

You’re alright.
IAmDaveTheSerialShagger · 14/06/2021 19:26

One of my neighbours cooks cakes and pies outside in this wooden bowl and leaves it cooking in the sun, I can't for the life of me remember what you call it but I was impressed with it!

TheGumption · 14/06/2021 19:26

As if being East Asian and BBQ-ing regularly wasn't bad enough, they just had to chuck Beyonce in. Thoughts and prayers OP.

Puffalicious · 14/06/2021 19:27

Oh for goodness' sake, it's not a bonfire and the OP hasn't mentioned beer! Stop projecting! Another fun sponge.

FricasseeTurnips · 14/06/2021 19:28

I used to work with a bloke who was inordinately proud of himself for building his wife a car port so that she could barbecue his dinner in all weathers Grin

Puffalicious · 14/06/2021 19:29

I did quote you Sue20 not sure why it didn't show.

Blackberrybunnet · 14/06/2021 19:30

Close your doors and Windows, light a scented candle. They can do what they like in their own garden. If they start throwing the leftovers over the garden fence, then YANBU.

21Flora · 14/06/2021 19:32

@PattyPan I’ve worked for some of the countries largest property owners (think thousands of rental properties) and none of them supply white goods. It creates lots of extra work with testing and repairs. Easier to charge a slightly lower rent and exclude them.

DrSbaitso · 14/06/2021 19:35

I don't barbecue and neither do any of my neighbours. Maybe I will set my house on fire to get the true British summer experience. I feel like I'm missing out.

MagicSummer · 14/06/2021 19:37

It never ceases to amaze me how inconsiderate some neighbours can be to others. I am always so careful not to make noise in the garden, make sure the dog doesn't bark more than occasionally, never play music and hate barbecues anyway.

Happyhappyday · 14/06/2021 19:38

My parents bbq literally every night from may - oct, it’s nice out, the house gets hot. It’s not unreasonable it annoys you, you’re entitled to that, but their behavior is 100% reasonable.

@PattyPan why is bbq meat less healthy? You don’t have to bbq a big Ole steak…

osbertthesyrianhamster · 14/06/2021 19:40

This.

Toomuchtrouble4me · 14/06/2021 19:40

I love a bbq - we use it as much as possible. I don't burn rubbish and I don't play music outside unless having a party. But I BBQ very frequently and will continue to do so.

Closetbeanmuncher · 14/06/2021 19:41

Piano bastard was a personal low 😂

I bet he had nothing on my opera bitch

Sounded like a cat being skinned and stuffed alive with a touch of whale mating call.

😂

RedToothBrush · 14/06/2021 19:42

Is there MN ettiquette on using a Pizza Oven outdoors midweek throughout the year? Including in snow conditions? And with meat on top? As long as its not accompanied by Beyonce its ok right?

Asking for a 'friend'.

@Nohomemadecandles

Gosh. Every other thread is the fun hoovers this last few days! Maybe give them longer than 36 hours...
Fun hoovers 😂 I love it. If it's not BBQs, it's hot tubs

Do you just sit there quietly scared to make noise? How do you mow the lawn? Or do you not have one?
PattyPan · 14/06/2021 19:44

Maybe white goods is a regional thing then! Most of the properties I've seen have had built-in cookers which I thought was more common nowadays too.

@Happyhappyday because BBQ is such a high heat it produces compounds called heterocyclic amines (HCAs) and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in meat which are linked to cancer in large doses.
