New neighbours - bbqing multiple times a day

bbqalldaylong · 14/06/2021 18:22

We have new neighbours. They're brand new so I have limited data on which to base my AIBU on. But here goes.

They bbq'd their dinner last night. Which I didn't care less about, it was the evening meaning my washing was in, and it's a weekend. Fine.

But today, they bbq'd their lunch, and are now back out their bbqing their sodding dinner.

AIBU in thinking this is a bit much? My house smells of acrid meat. Plus they seem to shout at each other rather than talk.

Are bbqs really that offensive? I never feel bothered by anyone else's barbecue.

If they built a large fire and spit roasted a pig every day; that would be annoy by but cooking a few slabs of meat for 30 mins is not a crime

Madjakelmum · 15/06/2021 19:22

I’m sure they can do what they want in there garden!!
Ffs we hardly have any summer as it is let them be.

motogogo · 15/06/2021 19:23

It will be raining again before we know it! We had neighbours that barbecued year round under a gazebo once, we did complain to the landlord, and about them not picking up after the dog in the shared garden, they moved 3 months later

MagicSummer · 15/06/2021 19:23
@MagicSummer your username is a bit ironic 😂
No it's not - I love the summer - sans barbecues!

Blueeyedgirl21 · 15/06/2021 19:36

@MagicSummer and sans kids having fun or any sort of noise either it sounds like!!

That's right! HTH

AmIPeriOrAreYouJustAnnoying · 15/06/2021 19:39

Meh

Jayne35 · 15/06/2021 19:45

My in laws just moved and have had their kitchen ripped out so are using the BBQ, to be honest they are fed up with it too and can’t wait to cook indoors again.

Blueeyedgirl21 · 15/06/2021 19:47

Oh I love a passive aggressive HTH! Almost as cringe as a passive aggressive mumsnet ‘did you mean to be so rude’ !

Off to pop my chicken burgers on the bbq now! With music on my Bluetooth speaker and beer in hand! LUCKILY I’m neighbours with normal people who don’t cry when they hear a noise

the80sweregreat · 15/06/2021 19:54

I've never been a lover of bbqs. It's faff and mostly tastes horrible, but outdoor living is a thing now and people love it. I prefer autumn when the bbq novelty has worn off!

bloodynamechangethe3rd · 15/06/2021 19:58

A friend of a friend, I've seen it, it's not a made up friend of a friend thing, has a Roth out who has a huge 5ring gas burner type thing outside, they cook EVERYTHING on it, and there's people turn up all the time to pick up food! I thought it was hilarious, until I witnessed them cooking a whole lamb on a spit just outside their back door. Think back to back type houses. The smell was horrendous.

SpikedTea · 15/06/2021 20:29

To be honest it would annoy me too if it was constant. I love a BBQ (South African) but I HATE loud obnoxious neighbours who think everyone is OK listening to their rubbish music all day. I have a neighbour that has a weekly bonfire and throws all sorts on it that stinks! And another that literally screams at her loud kids until 9/10pm. Can't people just have a little consideration for others trying to enjoy their gardens?

gumball37 · 15/06/2021 20:38

Yikes. I love when my neighbors bbq, smells delightful. I also don't care about music, or kids playing, or any of that. I don't get this idea that people can't live their lives how they want on their own property all because their neighbors don't live the same way.

Nohomemadecandles · 15/06/2021 20:48

You'd also be pissed off at the amount of smoke that billows from my kitchen door some nights! Now that's acrid! Grin

I've just been outside and two houses down are bbq-ing and it smells lovely!

Kellyclay417 · 15/06/2021 21:40

I agree 💯

It's music that gets me, too.
Heronwatcher · 15/06/2021 21:50

I feel like I’ve stumbled across a rehash of Alan Bennett’s “A Lady of Letters”. OP please do keep us updated every time they grill a sausage over the next week or so…

rainbowbear10 · 15/06/2021 22:23

Nothing to do with not having a cooker .. i'm sure we all have incondiderate neighbours like this... as soon as the suns out .. i know we have kids and adults out from 8 am till late contant noise, loud music, playing or radios on different channels not to mention BBQ;s when you have a full load of washing out on the line ... they dont seem to bother with washing just shove it in their tumble dryer. we are supposed to live in a smoke free area what i find even worse when they have fire pits burning at night NO consideration to anyone with asthma who cant even sleep with the window open for the stink of burnt wood

Br1256 · 16/06/2021 08:09

Rain predicted ….

Thewarrenerswife · 16/06/2021 09:56

I’m going to buck the trend and say, if it continues, then no you ANBU.

If it’s a Smokey bbq, burning wood or charcoal, and the gardens are confined, then no it’s not okay to force that twice a day on your neighbours.

If this was a post about a neighbour lighting a fire in the garden twice a day to burn garden waste, Mumsnetters would be shoulder to shoulder with OP. Add a few cheap burgers and over marinated chicken… and it’s fine fine fine.

Good luck with your move OP.

YellowFish12 · 16/06/2021 10:07

If it’s BBQ on a gas BBQ I wouldn’t be bothered

morepizza · 16/06/2021 12:33

It's not
Hopdathelf · 16/06/2021 15:19

I hope we get an update in a few days. I’m fully ready to say the OP was reasonable if they keep going.

Toomuchtrouble4me · 16/06/2021 20:01

Either cooker not installed yet, dishes not unpacked or it’s the first time they’ve had a garden.
I’d much rather have shouty BBQ’ers than cat shitters all over my garden.

Emmelina · 16/06/2021 20:14

I’d have bbq’ed all this week too if my new barbecue had arrived on time, going through this whole saga with Yodel at the moment. Ho hum.
Maybe they have a garden for the first time in ages and it’s nice weather, they’re making the most of it!
