New neighbours - bbqing multiple times a day

We have new neighbours. They're brand new so I have limited data on which to base my AIBU on. But here goes.

They bbq'd their dinner last night. Which I didn't care less about, it was the evening meaning my washing was in, and it's a weekend. Fine.

But today, they bbq'd their lunch, and are now back out their bbqing their sodding dinner.

AIBU in thinking this is a bit much? My house smells of acrid meat. Plus they seem to shout at each other rather than talk.

@PattyPan yep! North west England. Always rented unfurnished, never included any cooker or white goods.

RedToothBrush · 14/06/2021 19:09

Best get the house on the market right away OP.

Obviously after a month of this your house won't smell like acrid meat, it will smell like a abatior and it will have seeped into all your furnishins and clothing.

Also, I was unaware that it wasn't ok to barbeque midweek and that we must all do our washing then instead. I think you should write to your local MP asking for them to propose a new law making this type of extreme antisocial behaviour illegal.

And bloody hell, LOUD Beyonce??? You are utterly doomed. Doomed I tell you.

Get the house on the market quick before word spreads and they bring down the prices of the whole street.

Or it could just be a very warm June in the middle of a pandemic when everyone has gone nuts about their garden and spending as much time outside as possible (before it rains later this week).

RedToothBrush · 14/06/2021 19:09

@bbqalldaylong

I'll report back if this turns into a daily thing.
Fab. Can't wait for the laughs.
bbqalldaylong · 14/06/2021 19:10

@Finfintytint

Don’t see what the problem is. We Bbq most meals in the summer months. Don’t give a fuck. You seem to have a problem with it. Bit anti renter and a teeny bit racist.
Racist? 😂

Someone asked me if it was a cultural thing and mentioned their Persian neighbours

@Puffalicious

Of course yabu. It's up to them if they wish to BBQ every meal of every day. What do you seriously expect to say to them regarding this? They're within the confines of their own property. As MN always says: if you don't want neighbours go and live rurally.
Actually there are generally council restrictions on eg bonfires, partly this is the antisocial nature of sending billowing smoke. It's got some similarities. My neighbour occasionally uses a barbecue, I can't complain its not that often, but thank goodness because it smells horrible. Also that shouting thing is so stupid, and often accompanied by too much beer. Its antisocial, YANBU
MilduraS · 14/06/2021 19:12

I use the BBQ more often than not in summer. Keeps the house cool and I just love the taste of things cooked on the BBQ. I can't say I've cooked two meals in one day but I've used it 5 times in the past week. I'm usually an accommodating neighbour but hell would freeze over before I stop using it.

princessandthedragon · 14/06/2021 19:13

It wouldn’t bother me but then I guess we all have different tolerance levels.

Finfintytint · 14/06/2021 19:14

Meh, you mentioned East Asian without needing to and made a point of mentioning the fact you mentioned East Asian without needing to, lol.

IndecentCakes · 14/06/2021 19:15

You'd not last long in the Med or Middle East then. This is normal, it's hot weather and logical to cook outside.

osbertthesyrianhamster · 14/06/2021 19:15

YABU.

osbertthesyrianhamster · 14/06/2021 19:16

OMG, renters and Easter Asian!

Bluntness100 · 14/06/2021 19:17

It’s astonishing really if you think about it. So many mumsnetters live next to people who are terrible bbq ers. They are so so bad at it, they stink their neighbours washing so bad it needs redoing. Fill their neighbours homes with billowing smoke and acrid burnt meat smells.

I’ve been very lucky, I’ve never met anyone who has bbqued so so terribly in this life expectancy reducing and public health hazard manner and I’ve been to many bbqs and bbq often myself..

How they even get close to the grill I don’t know, with these absolute infernos going on.

My DH's family keeps a grill in their car for when they go on day trips😂

Ok.... someone did ask me... I'm south Asian if that makes any difference?

Being irish we bbq all year round.
Love a bbq'ed breakfast. Toast on a bbq is amazing. As are eggs and hash browns

Ditto.😁
Sweettea1 · 14/06/2021 19:18

Close your windows then ya house won't smell. O no you should beable to open your windows and hang your washing on line just like they are allowed to use there garden to bbq.

IAmDaveTheSerialShagger · 14/06/2021 19:18

Get a grip @bbqalldaylong it's none of your concern what they do, if this is all in life you have to moan about them your very lucky!Hmm

Shehasadiamondinthesky · 14/06/2021 19:19

I detest barbecues. They both taste and smell like shit and they are totally antisocial. The whole place stinks of lighter fuel for hours.

0None0 · 14/06/2021 19:19

Some cultures cook outside as the default. YABU

Gosh, then you’re doing it all wrong.
cupsofcoffee · 14/06/2021 19:21

@bbqalldaylong

They're East Asian if that's relevant, don't think it is.

My ignorance doesn't allow me to determine where in East Asia unfortunately!

If it's not relevant (which it isn't) why even mention it? Hmm
DishingOutDone · 14/06/2021 19:21

My earnest bbquers were white British and homeowners. I think I might be due a prize. But seriously there are a lot of avid BBQ fans on here so it must be a “thing”?

You're doing it wrong!

And "detest" is a bloody ridiculous word to use about a bbq!

CorianderBee · 14/06/2021 19:23

BBQs always smell amazing in hot weather... and I don't even eat meat!

Honestly OP, it's a heatwave and they probs either haven't wired in their oven or don't want to cook in the house when it's so hot. It'll be over soon!
