New neighbours - bbqing multiple times a day

bbqalldaylong · 14/06/2021 18:22

We have new neighbours. They're brand new so I have limited data on which to base my AIBU on. But here goes.

They bbq'd their dinner last night. Which I didn't care less about, it was the evening meaning my washing was in, and it's a weekend. Fine.

But today, they bbq'd their lunch, and are now back out their bbqing their sodding dinner.

AIBU in thinking this is a bit much? My house smells of acrid meat. Plus they seem to shout at each other rather than talk.

Totally agree. Hate bbqs. Have to quickly shut all windows etc as neighbour does them all the time. I’m a hypocrite, though, we had one on Sunday. Against my will. But all that were here love them. I also shut all my windows. And swore a lot cleaning the stupid mess afterwards.

alwayscrashinginthesamecar1 · 17/06/2021 00:16

All you barbeque haters stay away from Australia, you would hate it! Mind you, bbqs here are amazing as we've all had lots of practice, and we usually have a lot more space outside, so noise isn't so much of an issue. Although I reckon some of the moaners on here would probably get upset about the neighbours kids splashing in their pool and would hate my outdoor tv. Grin

@bbqalldaylong

They're East Asian if that's relevant, don't think it is.

My ignorance doesn't allow me to determine where in East Asia unfortunately!

Well this post tells me all I need to know about you!

CatNameChange101 · 17/06/2021 00:45

Yep. That you didn’t read the thread @HeavenHotel awkward…

LuvMyBubbles · 17/06/2021 00:55

Sorry but this is ridiculous. They can bbq all the time. Get over it.

Why the hell would that be relevant OP ??
notsogreenthumb · 17/06/2021 01:05

This is one of the most ridiculous posts I've read on mumsnet. Their garden they can use it as they please. If anything I find bbqs to be great socials.. not anti-social in the least Smile. If you don't like the way people use their homes, move to somewhere rural without any neighbours.

PattyPan · 17/06/2021 01:18

@notsogreenthumb if you read the thread you will see OP was answering the post immediately before that one asking if it could be a cultural thing as that poster’s Persian relatives BBQ a lot.

SaltySkulls · 17/06/2021 02:17

Tbf, I get pretty outraged when I smell a neighbours BBQ.

Outraged I'm not also having BBQ.

HashtagAnonyMouse · 17/06/2021 02:27

If that is all you have to worry about in life... Confused

Notebooksarefabulous · 17/06/2021 02:34

@ClaudiaWankleman

My house smells of acrid meat.

Hyperbole of the day.

I don't find it anti-social. Even in my tiny garden, with waist high fence, I have never once been bothered by smoke from the two neighbours' coal BBQs. It is a phenomenon only known to Mumsnet.

Well arent you the lucky one.
OldieButaGoodie · 17/06/2021 02:47

Don't move to Australia then..Grin

We bbq a couple of times a week, all Summer and at least once a week during the rest of the year. It's the best way to cook steak and/or sausages. All our neighbours bbq too - it's a competition to smell who's having the best dinner Wink

londonscalling · 17/06/2021 03:17

@MaybeCrazy2

Why would you not bbq all meals when it’s hot? That’s what summer is all about!

This

jaysus6000 · 17/06/2021 03:40

BBQ's smell amazing. I'm in Australia too.
I love coming home and smelling all the neighbours food. Makes me hungry!

MooseBeTimeForSummer · 17/06/2021 05:14

Smokers are popular here at the minute in this bit of Canada. You’d hate it. They even work in -30. There are special blankets you can buy for them and they burn through way more pellets than they would in summer. Folks tend not to hang around outside quite so much though …..

3Britnee · 17/06/2021 07:39

MagicSummer
It never ceases to amaze me how inconsiderate some neighbours can be to others. I am always so careful not to make noise in the garden, make sure the dog doesn't bark more than occasionally, never play music and hate barbecues anyway.

Sounds fun at your house. Not.

Auntienumber8 · 17/06/2021 08:25

I love a BBQ, we BBQ in the chimnea and have these briquette things that hardly make any smoke at all. It also cooks the meat more evenly where it’s enclosed and very quickly as well.I don’t like hearing music being played though as quite often it’s stuff I’m not keen on.

SD1978 · 17/06/2021 08:45

I genuinely don't get the barbecue hatred that seems to occur. Most people here use one daily in summer (Australia) and in my area most of the European have full kitchens in their garages and never seem to cook in the house. Neighbour behind me has a fire it going most days to cook spits. I've never yet noticed it on washing, and whilst I can smell the meat Indoors- usually it's just with envy.

Me too! You can see that mostly are from Europe, while Australia and the southern country I came from, a bbq means meat and party, and I love it… could never hate my neighbour for this Grin Is simply ignorance or jealousy for not being as happier as bbq-crazy_people Smile
