New neighbours - bbqing multiple times a day

We have new neighbours. They're brand new so I have limited data on which to base my AIBU on. But here goes.

They bbq'd their dinner last night. Which I didn't care less about, it was the evening meaning my washing was in, and it's a weekend. Fine.

But today, they bbq'd their lunch, and are now back out their bbqing their sodding dinner.

AIBU in thinking this is a bit much? My house smells of acrid meat. Plus they seem to shout at each other rather than talk.

@Nohomemadecandles

Beyoncé maybe but the barbecue's fine
😂
bbqalldaylong · 14/06/2021 18:40

@romdowa

People using their gardens during day light hours! Oh the horror 🤣🤣 if they were cooking the meat with the windows and doors open you would still smell it. So even if they stop bbqing , you'll still have an issue
Hardly. I've never smelled meat cooking before. I've lived here 7 years

We bbq loads in the summer. We have a gas barbecue and it's just as easy to do that as cook 'normally' - gets everyone outside, means we eat outside and it feels a bit more special. Thankfully we haven't just moved...

PattyPan · 14/06/2021 18:46

@Summersun2020 are you in the U.K.? I‘ve never even viewed a rental property that didn’t include a cooker. Most of them included the washing machine and fridge too.

Op, I do think it would be antisocial if they continue like this as it’s not good for you to have all that smoke (nor is it good for them to eat that much bbq meat tbh) but I’d give them a few days to settle in.

Chloemol · 14/06/2021 18:47

Don’t know where you are but for lots thunderstorms are predicted Wednesday to Friday!

Puffalicious · 14/06/2021 18:47

Apologies, you didn't say anything about mentioning it. However, is this not actually better than a passive aggressive muttering under your breath that breeds contempt from you before you've even met them?

I don't actually see it as anti-social. Annoying, perhaps, depending on where it's situated and where your doors/ windows are, but not anti-social: it's not noisy, it's not offensive, it's just people having food in the summer.

Castlepeak · 14/06/2021 18:48

In the summer heat, bbq is perfect because you don’t heat up the kitchen.

We don’t have any neighbors to bother though and we don’t play music. Just step outside and cook in what essentially becomes our outdoor kitchen.

They're East Asian if that's relevant, don't think it is.

My ignorance doesn't allow me to determine where in East Asia unfortunately!

My annoyance can be explained by the amount of terrible neighbours we've had over the last 7 years.

Luckily we are moving, can't wait! But won't be for the next 6 months. Next door the other side start their loft conversion in 2 weeks - yay!

I think we are due some thunderstorms next week, so you won't have problems then.

I'm wondering if this is a 'it's not then it's you' scenario ... probably best to move to a detached house in a remote area
bbqalldaylong · 14/06/2021 18:58

We've also had some wonderful neighbours. It's just quite a transient part of town I suppose so we get all sorts. People stay for a year/ two years max and then move on. We've had a lot of people come and go!

Piano bastard was a personal low 😂

It's a row of maisonettes with some owners and a lot of renters if you see what I mean. Not a lot of space for the amount of people.

Anyway, we're moving soon.

The bbq smell has abated somewhat and Beyoncé has finished warbling.

Nope. Not at all relevant. Their garden, their choice, their food, their life, move on.

People like to have a nice time and enjoy nice food in the sun with their family. Deal with it

bbqalldaylong · 14/06/2021 19:02

Dealing with it just fine...

We had neighbours once that BBQ'd two meals a day every day from about February; they were sunbathing from March without fail. They'd put their lunch time BBQ on around 11.30am. Nauseating in the end. Anyway, they moved. They were quite a young family - is this a thing?

nocoolnamesleft · 14/06/2021 19:06

Mmmm, not had a bbq yet this year. You're really making me fancy one!

Finfintytint · 14/06/2021 19:07

Don’t see what the problem is. We Bbq most meals in the summer months. Don’t give a fuck. You seem to have a problem with it. Bit anti renter and a teeny bit racist.

Are you sure it's not a cultural thing? My neighbours are porteguse and BBQ no matter the season and multiple times a day....doesn't bother me though! Always smells incredible!
