New neighbours - bbqing multiple times a day

We have new neighbours. They're brand new so I have limited data on which to base my AIBU on. But here goes.

They bbq'd their dinner last night. Which I didn't care less about, it was the evening meaning my washing was in, and it's a weekend. Fine.

But today, they bbq'd their lunch, and are now back out their bbqing their sodding dinner.

AIBU in thinking this is a bit much? My house smells of acrid meat. Plus they seem to shout at each other rather than talk.

My parents switch off their AGA in the summer and everything gets cooked on the gas BBQ for 3 months (although there’s lots of raw too!). You’d love them 😂

BiscoffAddict · 14/06/2021 20:15

God there are some miserable buggers on MN. Seriously lighten up.

Travis1 · 14/06/2021 20:15

@NotPersephone my sisters partner is Iranian and they seem to bbq in all weathers. Be grateful
Op as he seems to favour fish 🤢

CoffeeWithCheese · 14/06/2021 20:15

Mine does this constantly from around March through to October. It's irritating, it stinks (but at least he's changed from the one with stinky firefighter fluid to a gas one now) but it's not something I can do shit about so I try to ignore.

Beyonce would push me over the edge though.

osbertthesyrianhamster · 14/06/2021 20:16

@Elphame

BBQ meat is very unhealthy - the charring produces heterocyclic amines and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons both of which are carcinogens:

OK occasionally but a really bad idea for every meal

Then don't do it.
IARTNS · 14/06/2021 20:16

I agree with you OP, I would be annoyed too. Who the fuck has a barbecue with music playing on a Monday night?!

Guilty, we did it yesterday too, would've had one Saturday as well if we'd not eaten out instead Grin

Not OPs neighbours though, we've been here years and wouldn't be playing Beyonce Wink

Music is also at an acceptable volume.

CrunchyCarrot · 14/06/2021 20:17

They are enjoying the 3 days of English summer.

LycraCladLucy · 14/06/2021 20:18

Does people’s washing really smell if their neighbours are having a BBQ? It’s a small amount of smoke and would be a distance away with a fence in between and smoke goes upwards. I can imagine a bonfire making washing smell but a BBQ? My washing is OK when my neighbours have one and our gardens are only 30ft.

YABU OP. It is great weather. There are smells in the air, get over it. I love the smell of BBQ’s despite being a veggie who would never eat the meat off it!

Fleurty · 14/06/2021 20:18

My next door neighbours BBQ all the time in the summer. On a Sunday they even do a full breakfast on it. It hasn't ever occurred to me to be offended.

Taliskerskye · 14/06/2021 20:19

I just had a BBQ
who wouldn’t

Oh uptight folk

PattyPan · 14/06/2021 20:20

@osbertthesyrianhamster she didn't say she did do it, but evidently not everyone knows about the risks and it's not wrong to inform them.

hahaboink · 14/06/2021 20:24

It wasn’t exactly late when OP posted this. It’s not like the neighbours are having an all night rager.
Coldwine75 · 14/06/2021 20:26

Nothing wrong with it, they wont do it it day in day out im sure

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 14/06/2021 20:26

Wait till they get to the BBQ Weetabix for brekkie.

BustyDusty · 14/06/2021 20:27

Every single bloody year, there are boring threads on here about how antisocial woodburners are - how they make clothes and houses stink, pollute the environment, destroy the planet, are slowly poisoning us and our children and should be banned.

Those same MNtters are now clamouring 'Bitch op! They can do what they like in their own garden!! You nasty racist fun-sponge! They might be waiting for a cooker!! BBqing is a looovely smell. My in-laws are from Timbuktu and barbecue everything all day all year round, they even cook the feral cats and they can do what they like frankly. Deal with it or move to a detached house in the remote countryside.'

(Wanders off to light my woodburner....it's a bit chilly now.)

SisterAgatha · 14/06/2021 20:29

Are they Turkish? I’d love this, my DH is Turkish and the smell of the fires being lit brings back such lovely family memories. Ponders End smells like a restaurant every summer.

You’ll get used to it for sure, and then grow to miss it in winter.

Cheesypea · 14/06/2021 20:33

The weather and the novelty wont last

ARealHoliday · 14/06/2021 20:33

I don’t agree they should be playing music, but it’s so hot atm we’re either eating salads or cooking on the BBQ, it’s gas so on for 5mins to cook bacon and then off. No shouting or Beyoncé or loud music.

LunaHardy · 14/06/2021 20:34

My parents are currently having their kitchen done and have been eating all their meals outside, cooked on the BBQ. Can't imagine them listening to Beyoncé though. More Spandau Ballet. I think YABU and need to lighten up - it's summer after a crappy year.

OutComeTheWolves · 14/06/2021 20:36

I have a friend who bbqs all the time - like if she's having salmon and potatoes for tea, she'd bbq the salmon. It does always taste nice to be fair.

WalkingOnTheCracks · 14/06/2021 20:37

You’d hate most of the US and all of Australia.

oopsyydaisyy · 14/06/2021 20:40

why cant they listen to music, why is everyone saying this plz explain?

Give them a break !!

Knickerthief1 · 14/06/2021 20:42

My neighbours barbecue very frequently throughout the summer. I find the best thing to do is to say hi or shout over some random query. If I get chatting I often end up with an invite over. Win win.
