I feel embarrassed writing this at my age but today I'm off work and all of my friends are at work.
I really want to go to the beach it's got to be lovely and warm here today.
It's a 10/15 min walk from my house so not far at all.
Aibu to go alone?
I know most people go with families etc but I really want to go down.
I just want to go down, relax, maybe get some chips and ice cream and enjoy the nice weather.

Yes! Once you are out and doing things alone you realise how many other people do things alone too. Eg I took myself for breakfast this morning and there were more people alone than people sat together.

slashlover · 09/06/2021 11:44

I don't understand why you would think YWBU. Do you think single people never go to the beach?

Cadent · 09/06/2021 11:51

I’m another wondering why this is even an AIBU.

If I lived 10-15 mins near a beach I’d go on my own a lot.

This embarrassment some people (seems to be mainly women) have about being seen alone is depressing.

idontlikealdi · 09/06/2021 11:52

Why on earth wouldn't you? I'm honestly baffled.

BagORats · 09/06/2021 11:54

@midsomermurderess

BagoRats, how about you try not to encourage such infantalism. It is a sad state of affairs that an adult woman need to ask the internet if she can go to the beach alone. No one is being n arse. It's frankly a bit creepy.
My comment applies to you too. It's not infantalism to acknowledge that some people suffer with mental health issues like anxiety. What's normal for you may be a struggle for someone else.

Stop being an arse.

Wizzbangfizz · 09/06/2021 11:56

Another why on earth wouldn't you? Same for the poster worried about going to the gym earlier. Bizarre.

speakout · 09/06/2021 11:56

Amazed that you ask!!

sallybally34 · 09/06/2021 11:57

I'm here.
I've found a nice quiet spot and it's gorgeous
Nobody has batted an eyelid
Seen a lot of people alone and lots walking along the promenade and to the lighthouse

I know I sound silly but I have generalised anxiety and trying to work on it.

That sounds lovely, I hope you have a fantastic relaxing afternoon!

endofthecorridoor · 09/06/2021 12:02

100% go to the beach alone. I love doing that when DH goes fishing, take my kindle and have a sunbathe with no interruptions Enjoy your day

mindutopia · 09/06/2021 12:06

Unless you have mobility issues and think you won't make it there and back, I can't see why you wouldn't. I intentionally leave my family at home at least once a week and go to the beach alone.

banivani · 09/06/2021 12:06

God I wish the beach was a 15 minute walk from my house. You lucky creature. I'd be there all the time, the less family the better Grin

davidrosejumper · 09/06/2021 12:06

@theemmadilemma, seconding this :)

Honestly, nobody will pay any attention to you. Just go and have fun. Due to having been single for the best part of my twenties and thirties, I am so grateful I have learned to travel, go to restaurants, and to the beach by myself. Nobody cares. It is so liberating.

Why would you only live your life to half its potential if you don't happen to have company for that day. Hope you are out there sunbathing right now, OP.

Itshotouthere · 09/06/2021 12:06

I would die to be in your predicament, op! Go and have fun

HarrietOh · 09/06/2021 12:07

I live on the coast a quick 5 min walk from the sand, I live alone and I'm always on the beach alone! Walking along or sitting with chips or ice cream. Love it!

TheTuesdayPringle · 09/06/2021 12:07

What did you imagine would happen?

ChikiTIKI · 09/06/2021 12:10

Well done for making it there. Have fun!! I'm jealous 😀 I'm working from home just looking out at the sunshine.

saraclara · 09/06/2021 12:12

I'm so glad you went! Enjoy your day, and do this often, now you've cracked it!

PixieDust28 · 09/06/2021 12:19

Have a lovely time! No one will think twice about it. Just someone enjoying the sun.

katy1213 · 09/06/2021 12:29

Good for you for getting out and enjoying it! Next challenge - cinema trip on a rainy day. No-one will bat an eyelid there either!

Bortles · 09/06/2021 12:30

Eh? Of course! Take a book or magazine and something to eat and drink. I used to do it all the time when I lived in Devon. Beach trips with children aren't the same, fun in their own way, not relaxing.

Bananahana · 09/06/2021 12:33

Go go go and have a fabulous time! Am jel! X

lotstolose1 · 09/06/2021 12:34

Do it! I go on holidays alone even though I have a partner and a child haha! I like my own space too. Halo

StoppinBy · 09/06/2021 12:37

My favorite thing in the world to do is to go on holidays by myself, do whatever I want, whenever I want....all by myself.

I love it so much!

Yes, I would definitely go alone.

Chocolateandamaretto · 09/06/2021 12:38

God I'd love to go to the beach on my own! Sadly am an hour away from our nearest beach so it's not somewhere I can nip to for a quick walk but in your shoes, yes, totally, DO IT!

I also love going to the cinema/theatre/for dinner on my own. It's very freeing not to have to look for someone to go with every time I want to watch a film or a play.
