Let me explain.

I'm a very casual dresser. You'll find me in joggers, jeans and Hush harem pants, with a t shirt or sweatshirt, weather dependent. And I stick to this uniform all year round

I don't own a single dress - well, I didn't until yesterday. When on a whim I bought 3. And I've put one on today and I keep inwardly thinking ' OH MY GOD! I'm wearing a dress!' as it feels so alien to me to do so. Like I should be going to a bloody garden party or something - and this is just a jersey midi dress with nicely covering short sleeves and goes well with trainers etc

So .. what do you wear day to day if you're not leaving the house? Would you even consider putting a dress on?

I've started wearing dresses more the last few years. At home it's casual. I have a couple of comfy relax pull on dresses I can wear with no bra at home. So either one of them or lounge wear.

Obviously bra is on and other clothing be it dresses, skirts, leggings or jeans etc when I go out.

I feel very exposed in a dress, I wouldn't really wear one out during the day unless for a wedding maybe. It feels like a costume, I feel the same about make up. I'm forever buying and doing make up then scrubbing it straight off as I feel ridiculous line I'm wearing a mask.
I've got two plain black jersey ones I wear round the house if it's hot but I cringe if anyone pops in unexpectedly and I'm wearing them and have been known to pretend I'm out.

Mothership4two · 08/06/2021 01:01

I never wear dresses. I don't particularly like wearing them and I'm apple shaped Sad so don't think I'd suit them anyway. Much happier in jeans, cut-offs or shorts

Providora · 08/06/2021 01:08

Anything goes at home but dresses are my default option for the office and for going out in warm/hot weather. So easy.

I have to put a lot more thought into pants outfits... coordinate top/bottom, belt?, tuck or not? etc.

saoirse31 · 08/06/2021 04:29

Haven't worn a dress in 20 years but have spent last hour admiring all your links and am v close to buyingGrin

I wear maxi dresses all year round. I don't like feeling constricted and I like how comfortable I feel in them. They're also great if I get bloated or my weight goes up or down - I always buy designs that have a bit of stretch. I've got a mum tum and I'm massively overweight, but I'm also fairly tall. Luckily maxi dresses are probably the most flattering thing on my shape as well as being super comfortable. I do also wear tea-dresses/knee-length dresses but I team them with leggings because the world has been through enough trauma and the sight of my bare legs could just be the tipping point.

Never, ever wear heels with them - I like a bold colour/print teamed with casual shoes/boots and a hoodie if it's cold.

Funnily enough, the way you feel about dresses I originally felt about ponchos/shawls/wraps. Someone bought me a thick woolly one a couple of Christmasses ago, presumably because it's got a bit of a hippy vibe like long dresses haha! I felt faintly ridiculous the first time I wore it. And then I grabbed it a couple of times out of convenience. And now I haven't worn a conventional coat in years - I'm converted to ponchos/wraps. So snuggly.

For me summer is THE time for dresses and I will also wear them when want to dress up for a night out all year round. When on holidays in a hot country I only take dresses.

Octopus37 · 08/06/2021 07:29

I love wearing dresses, especially in the Summer, just find them easier. I'm pear shaped so find it quite difficult to get trousers which fit me and look ok. In the Winter I wear dresses with tights or leggings under them.

mynameisbiggles · 08/06/2021 07:33

My wife wears dresses as often as possible (weather, task, occasion dependent) and she always looks utterly beautiful. TBH she's a size 8 and would look fantastic even in an old sack-cloth (I'm probably biased). Wear a dress, look feminine, show off your curves, make your DH proud.

Gilly12345 · 08/06/2021 07:44

I only wear dresses in the summer as they are so easy to wear and very cool in the warm weather as no waistband. Around the house I wear tea shirts and shorts in Summer or joggers and tops in Winter/Autumn.

Ok now I am binning all my dresses.

Out of all the reasons to wear a dress , that one is last on the list , if it even makes the list.

Ew.

pigeonpocket · 08/06/2021 07:46

I wear dresses almost every day. I've yet to find a pair of jeans or trousers that I feel totally comfortable in.

Fallsballs · 08/06/2021 07:49

“Make your DH proud”
I hope your taking the piss you weirdo.

KarensGobbyChops · 08/06/2021 07:55

What if you are 'H' free?

Should I remove my dress now, as there is no man in the room currently to bestow his approval and pride? Grin

🤢 nothing like a bit a casual misogyny to wake up to. Biscuit
MrsBunHat · 08/06/2021 07:59

Oh read the room biggles! 99% of the posts on this thread are about enjoying the feel of dresses, the comfort, the coolness, the convenience, and even sometimes the advantages when you’re not a size 8. Do we sound like a bunch of stepford wives? And guess what - some of us don’t even have a DH! Some of us don’t even WANT one! Mind… blown

Fuck’s sake. Have you wandered in by mistake, dear? You seem to be confused as to where you are.
longwayoff · 08/06/2021 08:08

The last time I wore a dress I spent the whole journey to work- walk, bus, walk, arrive - with the back of the skirt caught up in my knickers and my bum on full display, free of charge, to all viewers. Blush. Have worn trousers every day since then. Utterly traumatised.

longwayoff · 08/06/2021 08:11

O biggles you are lucky! How unfortunate that your lovely wife has a husband with an unfixable fat head. Poor girl.

PeachyPeachTrees · 08/06/2021 15:00

I'm in a comfy jersery dress from Fat face, they have lovely easy dresses. Quite a lot of their dresses have pockets too.

OP, from the little info I have read about your style, I think you would like their dresses.

CaveMum · 08/06/2021 15:08

We should start a list of companies that make dresses with pockets!

From my own wardrobe:

Boden
Fat Face
Jolie Moi

PattyPan · 08/06/2021 15:10

Good idea, @CaveMum
From mine:
