Let me explain.

I'm a very casual dresser. You'll find me in joggers, jeans and Hush harem pants, with a t shirt or sweatshirt, weather dependent. And I stick to this uniform all year round

I don't own a single dress - well, I didn't until yesterday. When on a whim I bought 3. And I've put one on today and I keep inwardly thinking ' OH MY GOD! I'm wearing a dress!' as it feels so alien to me to do so. Like I should be going to a bloody garden party or something - and this is just a jersey midi dress with nicely covering short sleeves and goes well with trainers etc

So .. what do you wear day to day if you're not leaving the house? Would you even consider putting a dress on?

Op. I love the Monsoon dress.
That is right up my street!

VanillaAndOrange · 07/06/2021 16:53

I like dresses, and I think of a jersey wrap dress or a lagenlook type dress as being just as easy to wear as jeans and t-shirt.

I feel a bit overdressed in a very waisted dress that isn't jersey, unless it's a very special occasion, but I still do it occasionally just for a change.

Localocal · 07/06/2021 17:38

I wear dresses most of the time - I find them more comfortable than jeans or trousers, and joggers don't suit me. A dress with leggings in the winter is comfy and smart at the same time. And a summer dress is cool and comfy without looking like a teenager.

Nohomemadecandles · 07/06/2021 17:43

@SirSamuelVimes

I wish I could be a "just throw on a dress" woman.

But:
Leg shaving
Armpit shaving
Cellulite on thighs
Pasty white skin
Chub rub
Being 5'11" so nothing sits right & is way shorter than its intended to be

All conspires against my dress wearing dreams Sad

All of this plus being a size 18/20

I look like Hagrid!

Winter I wear a lot of skirts with tights though.

iolaus · 07/06/2021 17:45

When its hot I wear dresses most of the time unless I'm in work - even if just slobbing round the house

LisaD76 · 07/06/2021 17:48

I live in dresses, jumper dresses and velvet ones in winter, shirt and jersey in spring and strappy or short sleeved in summer

notacooldad · 07/06/2021 17:50

wish I could be a "just throw on a dress" woman

*But:
Leg shaving not done for a couple of weeks
Armpit shaving not done since last Monday
Cellulite on thighs yep me too
Pasty white skin I'm a total milk bottle
Chub rub working on getting rid if it but its still there
Being 5'11" so nothing sits right & is way shorter than its intended to be 5ft 5 and dumpy.
No shits given. I look fabulous most of the time now I'm vack at the hairdressers!
Seriously don't put yourself down!!
Today has been bra, knicks, Jersey wrap dress and fit flops! ( and Bobby Brown lippy!) Couldn't be easier or more comfortable.

Op I've ordered the monsoon dress plus 2 other items! I'd forgotten how much I like monsoon.

Middersweekly · 07/06/2021 17:54

I live in a hot place so I wear dresses a lot. There’s only around 3-4 colder months of the year here where I wear autumn/winter wear. Maxi and midi dresses are the way forward with flip flops or sandals. I could wear shorts I suppose but it’s not really my style.

keeptheaspidistra · 07/06/2021 18:07

I am the opposite. I've recently started wearing trousers... i feel like I'm in fancy dress or a costume 😂

TheChosenTwo · 07/06/2021 18:08

I wear almost exclusively dresses!
I do own jeans but only occasionally wear them, just feel more comfortable in a dress and I’m horrible at finding clothes I like that ‘go’ with each other. Wearing a dress eliminates any of that, it’s just one thing to get out of the wardrobe, put it on and then I’m done.
I tend to shave every other day in the shower when I’m washing my hair and while my conditioner is in. Takes literally about 2 minutes to do my legs, pits and bikini line (not that my dresses are short enough to see that Grin ).
My legs are horrible but at 36 I actually have more self confidence in my body now than I did 10 years ago. Not quite enough to go bare legged out and about in an above the knee dress but still, more than I used to have.
I’m a size 14 on the bottom and maybe a 12 on top, I tend to buy dresses in a 14 and have them nice and loose. I also prefer an midi length because they’re more floaty and cover my rugby players knees Grin

@Hufflepuffsunite

I wear dresses all the time. I'm wearing one today and all I've done so far is housework! I am an odd shape though - I find trousers very uncomfortable (unless leggings). Dresses are much comfier and more flattering on me.
@Hufflepuffsunite I am the same Smile
Carpedimum · 07/06/2021 18:13

Yes I wear dresses at home and out, but rather weirdly, on reflection I’ve realised that I don’t wear skirts at home, only to go out. If I’m working at home with meetings on camera, then I’ll have a dress on, or a smart top but with slouchy stretchy pants out of shot.

Portla · 07/06/2021 18:15

Oh no id definitely have to plan wearing a dress or the local facebook page would be looking for a yeti roaming the town centre Grin.

Clammyclam · 07/06/2021 18:21

I only ever wear dresses
I find jeans so Uncomfy
But I have a variation
Jersey boden type dresses which I wear as a casual wear (so in place of jeans or shorts & tshirt)
Floaty maxi dresses for work
A few smarter fancy dresses for evening out.

Oblomov21 · 07/06/2021 18:24

I bought the Debenhams RedHerring smock dress. Throw it on, so soft and comfy, casual.

InsanityOf2020 · 07/06/2021 18:26

I'm the opposite of you, i dont own jeans/trousers/sweats, i have a few skirts and a wardrobe full of dresses. I have a favourite rolling stones tshirt but thats so massive that when i do put it on its no diff to a swing dress. So at home its swing/skater dresses and leggins, work smarter dresses, leggins and boots and i have some beautiful dresses for when hot dates start again

pollymere · 07/06/2021 18:33

I wear dresses most days, especially in summer and haven't worn trousers or a skirt for work in a long while. It's comfy and smart and I can just chuck them on without thinking too much about the other half of an outfit. They also cover all my worst bits and show off the best parts.

SleepOhHowIMissYou · 07/06/2021 18:46

I wear jersey patterned dresses from places like White Stuff, Fat Face, Seasalt etc. since peri menopause took my waist away.

Waistbands are no longer comfortable for everyday wear so it's knee length dresses all the way since my mid forties.

Muddydoor · 07/06/2021 18:52

I just throw one on. There are different types of dresses for different moods. I like to wear maxi dresses, bit I have some shorter ones. I think I have one or two just for dressy events, but usually I am wearing a dress because I can’t be bothered.

StoneofDestiny · 07/06/2021 18:55

I wear dresses every day in summer - so much cooler than trousers or shorts. I wear dresses to go out for meals in the evenings all year.

Jeans for scuffing casually - skirts and thick black tights in winter

earthyfire · 07/06/2021 19:03

Only on holiday really because my legs then need less prep with fake tan. Grin

crankyhousewife · 07/06/2021 19:12

My wardrobe is full of dresses and I love wearing them. Whilst I don't wear them all the time I wear them for any occasion. Today has been a casual stay at home day but I'm wearing a dress. It was either that or shorts. I'm a large lady and I don't give a stuff what anythin* else thinks.

MaBroon21 · 07/06/2021 19:13

I honestly didn't, I have heard of petticoats which I assumed just made skirts more twirly, but other than that, I thought maybe for warmth blush. Don't think I've ever had a dress with a lining either, but I can kind of see how that would hang better if the lining is slippery. Does that work for skirts?

My apologies. I was going to say petticoats but decided not to. It’s what I’d normally say instead of underskirts.

I just like wearing them and they work with everything I’m wearing - even culottes. You can buy particular ones to wear with a culottes.

Skirts I prefer not to buy them lined as I prefer underskirts for the reason you mention - I don’t like slippery lining.

As for twirly underskirts - I absolute love a twirly skirt and underskirt.

😊

Poptasmagorical · 07/06/2021 19:19

I wear Popsy dresses every single day. They have pockets and they come in both normal and ridiculous prints! At first it did take some getting used to and I felt like I should have an occasion to wear a dress for but now I never want anything else. I wear them with bright tights or chub rubs and converse.

My friend told me that we weren't actually obliged to wear jeans and we don't have to be uncomfortable in styles that only work on models, and I've never looked back. I don't even own any anymore.

Embrace the dresses!

Moonface123 · 07/06/2021 19:22

Yes, because they make me feel feminine, and l just love wearing them. Bare legs in summer, tights and boots in winter.
