Let me explain.

I'm a very casual dresser. You'll find me in joggers, jeans and Hush harem pants, with a t shirt or sweatshirt, weather dependent. And I stick to this uniform all year round

I don't own a single dress - well, I didn't until yesterday. When on a whim I bought 3. And I've put one on today and I keep inwardly thinking ' OH MY GOD! I'm wearing a dress!' as it feels so alien to me to do so. Like I should be going to a bloody garden party or something - and this is just a jersey midi dress with nicely covering short sleeves and goes well with trainers etc

So .. what do you wear day to day if you're not leaving the house? Would you even consider putting a dress on?

I would live in my dresses if I could because I love how freeing they are. The only downside to dresses is no pockets lmao

chaosmaker · 07/06/2021 19:29

Hate dresses/skirts and will only ever wear them with shorts underneath. Really detest tights

lljkk · 07/06/2021 19:32

I need these conditions for a dress (skirt) to feel good:

not cold temps, else worn with leggings
Not cycling anywhere, unless worn with undershorts, leggings
not doing anything where it's likely to get dirty (dragged on ground)
no need for wild wees

Just leggings are easier than leggings + dress

I don't gain confidence depending on looking pretty or "good". I only care about comfort & practicality.

Chris08 · 07/06/2021 19:37

I was just like you but now find wearing a dress very liberating & free.

Ponoka7 · 07/06/2021 19:46

I've always worn dresses. Now I'm in my 50's, I don't care what other people think of me. I'm a size 16 and In this weather I wear plain maxis and colourful kaftans. I get my kaftans from Shein.

FontSnob · 07/06/2021 20:00

I wear dresses all of the time, far more comfortable for me than jeans.

Perky1 · 07/06/2021 20:41

I wear dresses everyday. I don’t own a pair of jeans or trousers. Not worn jeans since sixth form. In my 50’s now.

TheGoogleMum · 07/06/2021 20:44

On a hot day yeah I'll wear a dress even if staying home. You say you don't suit a maxi dress - if you aren't seeing anyone who cares how it looks? My main problem is I won't always have shaved legs but if I'm not seeing anyone or leaving the house who cares?

Truthlikeness · 07/06/2021 20:50

I never wear a dress unless I'm dressing up a bit for others. I can't remember the last time I wore one - possibly when I was still going to work in Jan 2020?

lljkk · 07/06/2021 20:53

I don't like bare skin of my thighs to touch each other. Just me?

Me too. I always think I'm going to a party lol

I’m wearing a sleeveless jersey midi dress today (boden). Only left the house briefly to give ds2 a lift somewhere. It’s super comfy, but I did have to think about it, only in the context of shaving my legs first! I do wear dresses all year round, but it’s rarely warm enough for bare legs (Scotland 😂).

Sl33py · 07/06/2021 22:11

What do you wear as underwear underneath dresses? I have a few but I always feel self conscious underneath, like I need to wear shorts or a big pair of knickers.
I find my mum tum shows more under a dress.

Ordinary underwear. In my case it is comfort rather than glamour.

I wear sloggi long leg knickers
ColdTattyWaitingForSummer · 07/06/2021 22:38

Comfy M&S pants 😂 not quite granny ones but getting there! I wear them about 90% of the time anyway. Crop top style bras (primark) or T-shirt bras.

Courgetteandbeans · 07/06/2021 22:47

I love wearing dresses but I hate my thighs chaffing when it's too hot so avoid wearing them in the summer which is when it makes most sense to wear them.

honeyharris · 07/06/2021 22:53

I love a dress, so much less hassle than matching a top and bottom half

I buy the jersey dresses with pockets. Don't have to bother with a handbag as phone and cards in one side and keys in the other. Very freeing.

I often go commando. You can't do that with trousers. Two of my big changes since lockdown, no makeup and no drawers 😁

Chub rubs by Snag - total game changer.
Freetodowhatiwant · 07/06/2021 23:00

I rarely wear anything else, dresses are so comfy and you look like you’ve made an effort and you haven’t. I sometimes go to put jeans on in the morning but soon take them off as they’re just not as comfy as a dress. I wear them with tights and boots and a big coat in the winter and bare legged and with trainers in the summer.

Popsy dresses all have pockets! Glitterball
firsttimeoptimist · 07/06/2021 23:08

I rarely wear jeans in fact I have only ever found 3 pairs/styles in my life that fit me and each went out of fashion/stopped being manufactured. I now just wear jeans to garden/DIY! I never find tops that I like but a dress I dont need to match with anything except a cardie - easy peasy! I must have close to 50 dresses from cocktail to jumper and I feel they are just more forgiving as I reach middle age!

Ewanispurple · 07/06/2021 23:09

A dress everyday here! I have so many casual daytime ones with trainers / sandals, Light jacket on top or slouchy jumper - easiest outfit combo ever! I haven't worn Jeans for quite a few months now.
