My mum has nearly 12000 twitter followers.

I have like 10. She’s got loads of famous people following her too. A lady in her 60s, that’s a head gardener. Kim Wilde, Kerry Katona, and Charlie Dimmock!

How?! Just how?!

You do know that Kim Wilde is well known for being a gardener? She’s not that random.

Op isn't slating her Mom, it's just hard to conflate the two sides of a person sometimes. My friend makes short films. Ones been nominated for lots of awards and won a few. I'm immeasurably proud of her but to me she's just X, the 11 yo with a questionable hairstyle who used to think she'd marry Prince William.

OP, I've found your mum and I've followed her. Who could not love her video of the herbaceous border? Her posts are beautiful! She is such a talented gardener!

You may well be right, but I think if it were true she'd have posted something like,

"My mum is a wonderful mum and grandmother who loves watching crime thrillers. She's also an award-winning head gardener with 12k followers on Twitter. What surprising double lives do the women in your life have?"

No she’s just a gardener, and now the head gardener of a small ornamental garden in Oxfordshire.

There's a retired bloke on Twitter who grows big vegetables in his garden. He just posts about his vegetables with pictures and has over 100k followers and a book deal.

People love gardening posts. I often retweet beautiful trees and flowers.

I have over a hundred followers and have never tweeted anything. I have no idea who these people are. I only joined to follow one company as I was interested at the time because of some work my Dd was doing.

@DavidTheDog I was being lighthearted, don’t worry. My mum is an amazing person. And she loves her daughters dearly and is proud of us.

I love that. Your mum sounds ace, what an amazing job she has. DP has over 100k followers which I find astonishing as he's a total idiot. He works in football. He does get some horrible tweets though, I'd rather stick with my hundred or so nice followers thanks.

Social media works really well for people with a very specific interest. It's enormity means that their little niche contains a lot of people.

If your mum was a social media 'personality', an influencer, followed for her public persona, style, wit and aspirational lifestyle, that would feel strange, because the persona would inevitably be different from the person you know.

My mum is massive on 'dog Twitter' sharing pics of her lab and talking to other lab owners. It's incredibly sweet and she has c. 30k followers. It's been particularly lovely this year whilst she's been shielding. It's slightly strange but she's always been more sociable than me!

I just saw your mum's Twitter page. Her photos are stunning. You must be very proud of her. We live on the opposite side on the county and I've driven passed Waterperry Gardens but have never been. Must plan a trip as it looks beautiful

One of my fave accounts to follow on Twitter is a sheep farmer in Yorkshire. She's just trying to promote her B&B sideline, I suppose. I have no special interest in Yorkshire & even less interest in being a livestock farmer. But the snippets of farming life and Galloway cow gossip is brilliant! Has almost 30k followers.

Some of the most followed Tweeters are semi-anonymous 'feel good' accounts.
