7:30 lawn mowing (tomorrow, friday)

I get on really well with the neighbours so don't want to upset them.

Both sides are usually up well before 7, but it is school holidays here.

In the last borough I lived the council advised that use of power tools was acceptable on weekdays after 7.30-45am. I only know this because the local bowls club had their driveway dug up with a pneumatic drill at 6.15am and I complained.

I had an extension built and the builders would turn up at 7.30am and start noisy work just before 8am.

Sh05 · 03/06/2021 20:47

Bin collections never start before 7 here but if you've sorted it with your neighbours then go ahead.
We had someone jetwashing and hoovering on bank holiday Monday at 7am, now that is inconsiderate .

Laufeythejust · 03/06/2021 21:00

If anyone in my street did that I would never take a parcel in for them again.

BeastforLease · 03/06/2021 21:05

@Laufeythejust seriously? Thank goodness I don't live in Titfortatville then.

@Sh05 yes I wouldn't do it on a bank holiday, but it is a Friday - was more the school holiday bit but they've both said it's fine which is great.

We have had several burgalries, including both are neighbours so I really want it to look like it's been upkept whilst not here!

@BeastforLease goodwill works both ways 🤷🏻‍♀️

LondonStone · 03/06/2021 21:18

I think this is the worst thread I’ve ever read.

BeastforLease · 03/06/2021 21:25

Me: Neighbours "Is this OK"
Neighbours "Yes of Course"

Mumsnet "WAHHHH NOOO YOU CAN'T DO WHAT YOUR NEIGHBOURS SAID WAS ACCEPTABLE"

Goodwill does work both ways which is why I ask, and as they know the full situation, possibly why they said. Or they said yes because they are up at the crack of dawn anyways.

Everyone on the thread: Hmm

looptheloopinahulahoop · 03/06/2021 21:28

Our bin lorry sometimes comes at 6.45 but it's a bit different to a lawnmower because they come up the road, empty the bin and go again. Unlike a mower which will be on for ages depending on the size of the lawn.

I am noticing that people are starting work earlier and earlier though, my neighbour's gardener was cutting a bush at 8.15 the other morning and someone was mowing a lawn around 8am on another morning. So I'd say 8am is ok on a weekday, school holidays or not.

Whether you actually need to mow the lawn is another matter, people do it far too often and cut all the wild flowers down.

Mum2jenny · 03/06/2021 21:29

Mind you, I once cut the lawn at 4am just because.....and I had no whinging from neighbours.

But what about everyone who isn't your immediate neighbour? You're in Z2 (as am I) so you'll be disturbing a lot of people!
RavingAnnie · 03/06/2021 21:32

No 7.30 is too early. 8am weekdays is earliest that's ok. I would be really pissed off if woken by you mowing the lawn at 7.30.

Theunamedcat · 03/06/2021 21:36

Our bin lorry sounds like sirenhead no one has heard of wd40 at our local council clearly

And they come around 6am some weeks

Mum2jenny · 03/06/2021 21:36

Most people are up and awake by 7:30am on a weekday surely?

Maybe not during Half Term?
Mum2jenny · 03/06/2021 21:43

sparlingbrook young children will be awake way before 7:30am, generally nearer 6am from my experience unfortunately

Yes, but not all children on Half Term are young. Sixth Form pupils (and parents) can be on Half Term too.
Daphnise · 03/06/2021 21:53

Too early. Selfish to even think of it.

motogogo · 03/06/2021 21:57

Too early. My Alarm doesn't go off until 7.40!

Mum2jenny · 03/06/2021 21:57

And I’d hope did not grudge a person cutting their lawn at an ok time of 7:30am.
There’s plenty of normal noise around at that sort of time. It’s not like a chain saw or heavy duty shredder noise. It’s only a lawn mower.

I’ve neighbours who routinely move at 5am and not quietly but if I’m tired, I’ll sleep through, if I’m not, it’ll disturb me. But unless I live in isolation, you just get on with it.

RulesRulesRulesRulesRules · 03/06/2021 21:57

Just no.

motogogo · 03/06/2021 21:58

Rather than chatting now just now it tonight

Mum2jenny · 03/06/2021 21:59

At 10pm? Plenty of ppl will think it’s too late!!
