7:30 lawn mowing (tomorrow, friday)

I get on really well with the neighbours so don't want to upset them.

Both sides are usually up well before 7, but it is school holidays here.

Why can't you do it this evening?

No point going to speak to them unless you're going to talk to every neighbour within earshot? It's not just your immediate neighbours who'll be disturbed

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 03/06/2021 19:11

Well we were planning on nailing a new corrugated-iron roof on to the shed at 7:30 tomorrow.
May have to trim a few branches off the over-hanging trees first with a chain saw, I think it should be OK as we'll be wearing ear-defenders.

SlugsAreBastards · 03/06/2021 19:13

Just do it when you planned to. If you do piss the neighbours off, you’ll be off straight after and they’ll have forgotten about it by the time you come back if you’re going to be away for two weeks.

notanothertakeaway · 03/06/2021 19:14

OP - AIBU?

MN - Yes

OP - planning to do it anyway

Why bother to ask?

sibuttercup · 03/06/2021 19:19

I love how Mumsnet people are anti garden noise and anti early garden noise but a while back there was a thread on washing machines in flats/terrace/semi and how it wasn't anti social to have the machine going late at night or early in the morning if that noise was disturbing neighbours.

BeastforLease · 03/06/2021 19:21

@notanothertakeaway Where did I say I was planning to do it anyway?

I said I would go and have a chat with them :-) Something posters in the thread have suggested.

OP posts:
JudgeRindersMinder · 03/06/2021 19:22

Instead of going to chat with them, do it now

BeastforLease · 03/06/2021 19:22

@TwoLeftSocksWithHoles I really hope you are near me so that you get the blame for the noise and I can start right afterwards.

OP posts:
BeastforLease · 03/06/2021 19:22

@JudgeRindersMinder if you read the thread you will see I cannot do it now.

Wouldn't do the lawn before 9, maybe later.

HalzTangz · 03/06/2021 19:27

Far to early, I'm up at 5.30 every day but I cherish the peace the early morning brings. I'd be annoyed if lawnmowers started up at 7.30.
Why not wait til 9 ish which is afar more acceptable time

musicalfrog · 03/06/2021 19:27

I think you should leave it till you're back from your two week break. You'll come back to a beautiful wildflower meadow and lots of happy bees and butterflies ❤️Grin

HalzTangz · 03/06/2021 19:29
@Dalmationcoat needs to be mowed before leaving for two weeks...
I the time you've posted on here you could have been out and done the lawn.
It won't hurt to leave it 2 weeks and do it when you get back

SchrodingersImmigrant · 03/06/2021 19:31

@JudgeRindersMinder

Instead of going to chat with them, do it now
You don't understand. That would be just too quick end to the thread
sanityisamyth · 03/06/2021 19:34

@BeastforLease

It's already waited six weeks, it needs doing!

Then two more weeks won't hurt! You should have done it when you had the chance at a much more reasonable time. Failing that ask a friend/neighbour/local gardener to do it while you are away and leave a key out somewhere.

BeastforLease · 03/06/2021 19:35

@ineedaholidaynow and @SmokeyDevil little thing called multi tasking my friend... The reason I am not able to do it now does not mean I cannot post on mumstnet.

@cupsofcoffee the length of it. And it wasn't that I wasn't arsed, nice assumption there.

How have you got time to chat with the neighbours now but not got time to mow the lawn? If you’re home now to speak to them then there’s no reason you can’t do it now. Also, I’d be annoyed if my neighbour interrupted my evening to come round and ask if they could use their lawn mower ridiculously early. It’d be awkward to say no but I obviously wouldn’t want them to do it at that time, and I don’t think a warning that it was going to happen would make me feel better-I think it would just annoy me that you were disturbing me twice because you’ve randomly decided that your lawn NEEDS mowing (even though you won’t be there to appreciate it and it will need doing again when you’re back in 2 weeks).

BeastforLease · 03/06/2021 19:37

@musicalfrog we already have that - it is super lovely, but I am not in a position to get a petrol strimmer if I leave it any longer.

Spoke to one neighbour and whatsapped the other. Thanks for the suggestion.

It is weird with the amount of morning noise people are so against lawn mower noise but I am glad I asked.

OP posts:
BeastforLease · 03/06/2021 19:38

@TooInvested as I have said, several times, I cannot do it now. Perhaps read the thread? It's not about having time or not having time - it cannot be done now.

bishbashbosh99 · 03/06/2021 19:39

God no

safariboot · 03/06/2021 19:40

The 'standard' for noisy work, like building and DIY, is 8am-6pm weekdays though your own council might have different times set. Unless you have a particularly quiet lawnmower 730 is rather early.

Wife2b · 03/06/2021 19:40

Nope too early. I think a good rule of thumb is when tradesmen are able to start. 8:30 is it?

Mydogisagentleman · 03/06/2021 19:40

I say do it. I’m up at 05.30 every day and I Really don’t like Sandra next door!

maddening · 03/06/2021 19:40

Why can it not be done now? Perhaps the reason would aid understanding?

Why has it not been done for 6 weeks?

cupsofcoffee · 03/06/2021 19:42

Well, if you were that bothered, you'd have found a way to get it done before now, surely?

You're being very vague about why you can only do it at precisely 7.30am tomorrow yet haven't had the time to do it at all since the middle of April.
