14C and drizzly again today. I've had to get my hoody and trainers back out to go to town 😫

InkieNecro · 04/06/2021 16:45

@phoenixrosehere The one I already bought is this one, but I have got this bladeless one arriving today. Thought I could use the bladeless one with my hair down but will let you know what it's like later!

InkieNecro · 04/06/2021 17:09

Ok, bladeless one is here now. The air isn't blowing directly in my face like the other one, but it does blow up and all around my neck which is quite nice. If I have my hair down then the bladeless one will be nice as my hair would trap the cool air and keep me cooler for longer.

The bladeless one is definitely noisier though, so would prefer the other one if I was being social and wanted to chat to people.

Yes I do think a move out of London is on the cards for me at some stage. Not possible at the moment due to work but I'd love to move somewhere cooler. I'm pretty central in London so there is no escape when the heat hits. It's really not pleasant on any level. Today's been fine, cooler with rain. I do try and enjoy the cooler days in summer, when we get them.

RampantIvy · 04/06/2021 20:53

The reason being the evenings. It doesn't seem to cool down in the same way - the buildings hold the heat and town centres are warm until late.

It's the heat island effect (I learned all about it when DD was taking geography A level Grin). Living rurally we don't get this at all.

phoenixrosehere · 04/06/2021 21:35

@InkieNecro

Thank you so much :-)

cappuccinoandcats · 05/06/2021 18:13

Just tried to sit outside for a bit at 6pm. Sun still very strong and I now feel nauseous

RampantIvy · 05/06/2021 18:36

It has been warm but cloudy with a breeze today. My washing is drying nicely on the line. Currently 21 degrees.

Susannahmoody · 05/06/2021 23:22

Love in Canada and it's hot here too. Not a fan of it myself, prefer minus 10 and crisp

coconutmonkey · 06/06/2021 00:12

You lot are crazy. It feels like it is grey, dreary, chilly or mizzly 95% of the time in the UK. Let us enjoy this very brief bit of vitamin D, warmth and blue sky before it goes back to your happy, miserable weather!

Closetbeanmuncher · 06/06/2021 01:25

Anywhere else but the UK I love the sun, here it's just clammy and muggy.

We know that's the majority view, let us have our own little thread to commiserate with each other. We can't help the heat making us feel unwell, stressed and sad, we get no enjoyment from it at all.

StCharlotte · 06/06/2021 11:34

I think part of the problem in the UK is we go from baltic to tropical literally overnight - especially this year - so we never have a chance to acclimatise.

I adore hot weather but even I'm a bit "phew".

Curlygirl06 · 06/06/2021 12:15

We've been to the Seychelles a few times and the humidity there is in the high 70's/80's. When you walk out of an air conditioned room it hits you the minute you move. I grew up in Australia and again, the heat hits you the minute you leave any air conditioned space, but that's a very dry heat, like opening an oven. Given the choice I'd prefer the humid heat.
However the uk isn't designed for any excessive temperatures, either hot or cold, so I can understand why people don't like hot weather, we don't get enough to get used to it!

XenoBitch · 06/06/2021 12:51

I hate it. I can't stand feeling hot and sweaty. If I go out, I have to cover up though as I am covered in scars. I have a bladeless neck fan now though which has meant I am not too much of a sweaty mess when walking around shops (at least my face isn't, anyway).
I have a friend who has photophobia. She is pretty much housebound during the day in the summer... in her house with all the curtains closed.

MadisonAvenue · 10/06/2021 09:14

How much longer is this going on??? We’re forecast 27 for Sunday Confused

Youdoyoutoday · 10/06/2021 09:28

I'm loving it! Sitting in the garden for an hour or so each morning, relaxing, tanning, then nip inside to do my daily chores then lunch in the garden. We did treat ourselves to air con last year though after that ridiculously hot summer, my sons room was over 30 degrees each night, best investment ever!

Cottonheadedninymuggins · 10/06/2021 09:34

Ugh. Hate this weather. Hate the entire time from sort of may to end of September.

I already overheat and physically excessively sweat all year round due to a medical condition but during the summer months there's just no escape. It's just suffocatingly hot, at least other months there's air and breeze or a bit of rain to help cool me down. My head feels like a constantly boiling kettle.

Then we throw the 6 weeks holidays, hay-fever, people getting cross cos it's so hot, not being a me to move because I live in a tourist town and so on and so forth!

the80sweregreat · 10/06/2021 09:37

It's gone from lovely and cold / rainy to this heat overnight and I hate it.
I want it to go away and stay there and bring back the cooler bearable weather.

Well it's overcast where I am in the Midlands today. Yesterday was lovely but Tuesday was overcast a lot of the day
Cottonheadedninymuggins · 10/06/2021 13:05

@InkieNecro I feel you and agree whole heartedly.

I've just hoovered two rooms and swept and mopped too more, not exactly excessive hard labour. Allegedly it's only 20 degrees but my entire body including hair and face is dripping (literally, not exaggerated) with sweat to the point I look like I've just jumped in a swimming pool and not dried off. You can literally wring my clothes out I'm sweating that much due to a medical condition that can't be medicated as the only drugs for it are prescribed for it because their help is a side effect of other illnesses. (one I'm immune too that worked perfectly. The second did nothing at all for me and is more expensive than cancer drugs so rarely prescribed and the third only works if it feels like it and means you can't eat food at all (because it dries you out so much you can't swallow and just choke so have to live in milkshakes and smoothies)

My forearms and legs are even soaked and have beads of sweat running down them. I need a wee but I'm so dehydrated after the excessive sweating it won't be happening for a while whilst I try and balance my bodies fluids again.

In short, that is why I hate summer and the heat so much so all those who love it, its great for you and please do enjoy it but do allow those of us who hate it for lots of reasons our own little quiet corner of mn to commiserate together.

InkieNecro · 10/06/2021 13:13

Just to update on my fans, I've actually tried really hard to catch my hair in the cheap £12 one and I can't, so it seems unlikely that it's going to catch under normal circumstances.

I have air con in the bedrooms of my home and I still hate the summer. It means that when it gets really hot I have to confine myself and the children to upstairs so we don't overheat.

Cottonheadedninymuggins · 13/06/2021 19:25

Thankfully this next weekend is forecast to be a good 10 degrees cooler with a spot of rain to cool things off a bit more and make it more reasonable

coogee · 14/06/2021 16:36

This is probably part of the problem. You'll never acclimatise if you hide away from it.
