Friend lives like 8 miles away, still same city

RampantIvy · 02/06/2021 09:27

I would also like to know where it has been nice in May. It was on the national weather forecast that we have had the frostiest April and the wettest May for years.

It was a lovely 22 degrees here in rural Yorkshire yesterday.

knittingaddict · 02/06/2021 09:39

I hate it at the best of times, but it's 10 times worse this year.

I broke my right wrist 5 weeks ago and it's in a cast. The last few days have been hell. If I don't have my hand sitting on a cool block 24/7 my fingers and arm swell up. It's like the lower part of my arm is in a vice and I'm miserable. Hopefully just one more week to go.

AngeloMysterioso · 02/06/2021 09:41

YABU, I’m so relieved the sunshine and warm weather are finally here! Don’t have to pen 18mo DS indoors and try and keep him entertained while it throws it down outside, he’s happy to splash around in the paddling pool all afternoon. Don’t have to have clothes drying all over the house like a Chinese laundry or pay to use the dryers at the launderette, I can hang it outside. Sit in the garden in the evening after DS is asleep with a lemonade and a book... bliss.

PegPeople · 02/06/2021 10:01

I was gardening a lot. It was chilli sometimes but nice sunny quite a lot

I'm genuinely amazed you had so many sunny days, you must live in an odd anomaly within the UK, most of us have not seen Blue skies at all in May. Can you share where so we can all move there. GrinGrin

SchrodingersImmigrant · 02/06/2021 10:04

I am in NW, nothing special😂
My phone kept claiming it will rain imminently, but the clouds just turned and went to make others miserable😂
As I said, I think it's combo of place and me being bit up on a hill because friend from 8 miles away has different weather

SchrodingersImmigrant · 02/06/2021 10:05

I did see on a radar how south/south west got battered by rain a lot tho

mogsrus · 02/06/2021 10:46

Low 60s is enough for me,anything over & that's it,ive had it. We are not designed to work in it absolutely hate to hear the weatherman say,it's going to be a glorious day tomorrow,no not for me,should have been born a polar bear

CharElizaaaa · 02/06/2021 10:49

I hate it too! I hate being hot, I sweat easily because of anxiety so I spend the whole day worrying i’m showing my sweat and then I get more anxious and sweat even more! I’m insecure so don’t feel comfortable dressing “for the weather”. With the Summer season comes hatfever so I’m a snotty, hot head! If I didn’t have my son I would hide away indoors.

CharElizaaaa · 02/06/2021 10:49

^ Hayfever.

I’d prefer hatfever, it sounds fun.

ConstanceGracy · 02/06/2021 10:51

Yabu, it’s so nice not to be stuck indoors while it pisses down .
Absolutely love it

cappuccinoandcats · 02/06/2021 10:58

YANBU. I've take my son and his friend out 3 days this week. So uncomfortable. Yesterday we had a long walk through wood to get out of the sun. Went to bed really tired then didn't sleep well as it was too warm. I don't like summer clothes either

Meruem · 02/06/2021 11:16

What irritates me the most is the people who say “we only get 2 hot weeks a year”. That might be their perception as they like the heat but it isn’t the reality. Just looked at bbc weather for my area and it’s going to be 23-25 for the next 2 weeks and it’s only the beginning of June. There’s still months left for it to get even hotter.

I’m lucky in that my house is Victorian so a bit cooler. I’ve heard so many horror stories about the heat in new builds. I spent a summer in Germany 4 years ago and that was hell on earth! At least here a lot of the shops/work places have air con but over there it’s like they’ve never even heard of it!

SoupDragon · 02/06/2021 11:18

YABU (and not the first by a long way anyway)

Thank fuck it's finally stopped raining and is warm. Months and months of miserable weather hopefully done for a short while.

You'll get your 9 months of shit weather back soon enough!

Jocasta2018 · 02/06/2021 11:44

I'm in central London - just off Regents Street - for the next fortnight & it's grim! So so hot & loads of people.
Why can't I be pottering around in my garden??

(Actually it's great to see! I was in London a lot over all the lockdowns & London was a ghost town.
It's a shock to the senses.... And too bloody hot)

Washimal · 02/06/2021 11:53

I hate it with a passion! I am very, very fair skinned so I have to plaster myself in copious amounts of factor 50 (hate it, feels all sticky) and even then I still burn if i'm outside for more than ten minutes! The kids are also very fair but they hate wearing suncream and hats so that's a constant battle I could do without. I don't like being sweaty, I don't like the midges, I don't like being uncomfortably hot in bed at night...summer is definitely my least favourite season.

PinkMangoChristmas · 02/06/2021 11:57

I usually hate summer, the heat, long daylight hours and the social interactions of family barbecues and outings just aren't my thing. But this year I'm actually looking forward to it, being stuck indoors and not seeing anyone for a year plus a miserable winter and spring of non-stop rain has made me so depressed. Plus I'm whiter than paper so getting some sun will probably be good for me.

Butterbeers · 02/06/2021 12:07

The temperature isn’t too bad, but my allergies have kicked in big time in the heat so hives, sneezing and itchy eyes do not make for happy me.

RampantIvy · 02/06/2021 12:49

What irritates me the most is the people who say “we only get 2 hot weeks a year”. That might be their perception as they like the heat but it isn’t the reality.

But it is for a lot of us @Meruem. It is so dependent on where you live. London at 30 degrees must be hideous. When it is 30 degrees in London it is probably 25 degrees where I am (in Yorkshire) with a cool breeze. One of DD's friends lives in Dorset, and she was getting red hot weather when it was tipping down here.

Round here last year April, May and June were lovely. July was mostly cold, and August was patchy. September was glorious. I consider that last year was quite a good summer for us, and we did get more than a couple of weeks of sunny weather.

I don't like summer clothes either

Why not @cappuccinoandcats? There must be something you can wear. Swap jeans for loose, lightweight trousers if you don't want bare legs. Wear loose tops with three quarter length sleeves. Summer clothes don't mean that you have to bare acres of flesh. Maxi dresses or longer skirts.

It is currently a lovely and sunny 20 degrees here - not too hot.

LemonSherbetFancies · 02/06/2021 12:51

It's 26C here. Definitely hot. I love it, DD hates it and complains constantly that she is uncomfortable, has a headache, can't sleep, etc etc.

newnortherner111 · 02/06/2021 12:56

How can you hate something we have not had in the UK yet this year? calling this weather hot is like calling drizzle a heavy downpour.

Though I know many people are not keen on temperatures above 20C or a sudden change, and the humidity or poor air quality. I have no sympathy however if you contribute to poor air quality by driving short distances or if you have a Chelsea Tractor.

PinkiOcelot · 02/06/2021 13:12

Jesus get a grip people!! It’ll be pissing down next week.
Just think about the ratio of shite weather to good weather and shite weather wins hands down!!

Blossomtoes · 02/06/2021 13:15

It’s absolutely bloody glorious. I’ve spent the last four days in the garden and it’s like being on holiday. It can stay like this until October as far as I’m concerned. God knows, the bloody winter was endless.

Kakiweewee · 02/06/2021 13:34

My face is so red!

And I can't open windows because I've got bins out the front and bins out the back. A situation which I've complained about, but do far nothing happening. It's so stinky!

pussycatlickinglollyices · 02/06/2021 13:44

I'm in!
It's too hot for me and my cats, so I've emptied and turned the kitchen fridge off and am defrosting it.
It's made the west-facing kitchen tolerable, but one cat keeps trying to climb in. 🤦🏻‍♀️
