I genuinely can’t understand you heat haters! Luckily, since you all seemto love being forced to wear multiple layers all the time, never being able to go anywhere without a coat or umbrella, being stuck indoors with the kids or having to drag them out in the rain / wind / snow / hail and stand around in a sodden muddy park while they complain about being cold & miserable, you’ll get your chance again soon enough! And you get to enjoy the absolute grey drudgery of shite weather for 95% of the year Hmm

FloralJammies · 03/06/2021 19:39

Send the heat and the sun north please! I’ll happily send the overcast cooler weather south 😀

I'm moving to Scotland as soon as my youngest is old enough for train visits on his own. Suits me better.

I suspect most of the heat haters get hotter weather than we do @Icanhearyoubutiwont, and maybe live in the southern half of the UK in homes than are less than ideal when the weather warms up

A pp said they had 29 degrees yesterday. We had 22 degrees and a breeze.

My ideal weather is low to mid twenties, BUT, I live on a hill which always gets a breeze, I have a garden, I don't live in a town or city and we don't get months and months of hot weather.

One thing I don't understand is people who complain about the heat, and then wear completely inappropriate clothing. I find jeans and tight clothes unbearable in hot weather. Even a loose top instead of a fitted T-shirt makes a lot of difference.

EmpressSuiko · 03/06/2021 19:49

Anyone complaining about the sunny weather is being unreasonable, we’ve had a miserable year, basically skipped spring and it’s still not even that hot but I’ve been so happy being able to just wear a cardi and not needing any extra layers and finally getting away from the rain!

Good grief. Read the thread. Plenty of people explaining reasons why and several due to health reasons.

Also, surely it depends on where you live in the U.K. if it’s 95% grey all the time? Even with the tons of rain we had here in the SE of England, there was sun. Heck, it was like a switch was going off with the weather deciding between being sunny and being rainy all in the same day. You could see exactly where it was raining from a distance while where you could have the sun beaming down on you.

Icanhearyoubutiwont · 03/06/2021 20:07

I’m in London @RampantIvy so had the 29 degrees here, personally I loved it (but I can see how anything above 25 in London especially can feel suffocating for many people because it’s hard to escape the heat & all the hard surfaces seem to trap it more).

@phoenixrosehere I read it. Of course people who have health conditions which are worsened by heat have a genuine and understandable reason to hate it, but I doubt that applies to most people complaining here (didn’t seem to from reading the thread).

Icanhearyoubutiwont · 03/06/2021 20:08

Oh and yes I agree @RampantIvy about people wearing inappropriate clothing (like jeans) but then complaining they are hot...

FunnyWonder · 03/06/2021 21:08

The thing is, we in NI need you all to be getting fried so that we can have a decent temperature! Sometimes when there's a heatwave in the rest of the UK, it's cloudy and miserable here, but at other times, like now, we get the sun, but the temperature sits a few degrees lower and it's perfect. 20-22 degrees today and a light breeze. Heaven! Never lasts though ...

peaceanddove · 03/06/2021 21:31

I hate it when the temp ever goes above 21 degrees. I like crispy frosty mornings, cashmere jumpers and mugs of hot chocolate. I hate boob sweat, marauding ants, frizzy hair and other people's vile, bare feet. Hate it. Hate it all.

I had a tummy tuck nearly 3 weeks so am now wearing a surgical compression garment 24/7 and will have to for another 3 weeks. It's so humid today and I could cry. I didn't think it through at all. Why didn't I wait until November? Why? Why?

RampantIvy · 03/06/2021 22:01

You have hit the nail on the head @FunnyWonder. My lovely warm day here in Yorkshire is an unbearably hot and sultry day for Londoners.

TheReluctantPhoenix · 03/06/2021 22:10

London is not built for heat. It reflects off all the surfaces and there is no circulating air.

I used to like it but hot was over 22 degrees. Now we hit the high 20s in early June and seem to average high 20s to early 30s throughout the summer with days of mid to high 30s.

And then there is the perpetual noise of people in their gardens, again reflected off all the buildings.

Global warming seems to be truly here with cool wet winters and hot dry summers being the effect in the U.K.

I think moving out of London will be an increasing trend due to both COVID and climate change. I am certainly thinking about it.

AngeloMysterioso · 03/06/2021 22:19

To be fair when I lived in London I was in a top floor new build flat with south facing floor to ceiling windows, and the shape of the building meant even with the windows open you could never get a draught. During the summer heatwave two years ago when I was pregnant the temperature inside the flat was above 40°. That was actual hell.

ssd · 03/06/2021 23:19

Oh i remember lots of posts from pregnant ladies during that heatwave, it must have been awful

I like the sun but not when it's humid, which it is here at the moment. Last night I suddenly realised it was gently raining and I went out for a walk in it. So refreshing!

RampantIvy · 03/06/2021 23:55

It even got ridiculously hot in Yorkshire 2 years ago. My car registered 38 degrees on Tinsley viaduct!

RampantIvy · 03/06/2021 23:55

Sheffield for you southerners Grin

Icanhearyoubutiwont · 04/06/2021 09:17

Back to grey, overcast, 40% chance of rain here in London today already. The heat haters can rejoice!

RampantIvy · 04/06/2021 09:20

Sunny, and a max of 21 degrees forecast here in South Yorkshire - perfect.

LakieLady · 04/06/2021 09:31

@Butterbeers

The temperature isn’t too bad, but my allergies have kicked in big time in the heat so hives, sneezing and itchy eyes do not make for happy me.
I wondered if it would be OT to mention hay fever etc, but it's been hellish for 2 days.

I've been awake since 4.30, my nose was running like a tap, my eyes felt like someone had filled my eye sockets with sand and I had a sinus headache that was worse than any migraine I've ever had. I took antihistamine and a decongestant, sprayed my nose and put drops in my eyes and still couldn't get back to sleep.

But joy of joys, about 7.30 it started to rain and now I feel so much better. The rain must have stopped all the pollen from blowing around.

I've been googling "hay fever desensitisation" though and am seriously considering asking my GP for a private referral.

I had a course of injections for 3 consecutive years in my early teens and it kept me virtually free of symptoms for about 10 years. They no longer do them on the NHS though, the bastards.

RampantIvy · 04/06/2021 09:40

Local honey is supposed to help with hayfever.

Pinuporc · 04/06/2021 13:32

Away for a few days on the south coast - forecast looked reasonable, DC are desperate to go to the beach....its 15 and drizzly. Confused
In reality there are generally far more days like this (or just dull) than unpleasantly hot

skybluee · 04/06/2021 14:38

My flat doesn't feel any different - yet. It takes a few days to catch up. It isn't in direct sunlight. So the temp in here at night is the same as it was through the winter, apart from it doesn't drop between midnight and 5am, it stays constant - or near constant.

I think London is a lot hotter than here and feels different to cope with. The reason being the evenings. It doesn't seem to cool down in the same way - the buildings hold the heat and town centres are warm until late.

InkieNecro · 04/06/2021 14:43

I've missed this thread, I pointed out last year that research shows violent crime and murder increases in hot weather and I can fully understand why!

Though I have just bought the most amazing fan ahead of the actual heatwave. It goes around your neck, is chargeable and can blow air on you for up to 16 hours straight. I like it so much that I immediately bought a second in case it runs out of battery!

That sounds amazing. Please have a link of some sorts for it.
