To be falling out of love for the hot tub?

We bought it last summer when lockdown hit. At first it was great.

It’s now becoming a pain, keeping it clean and lid on / off, washing swimwear. I also find DH wants to go in it all the time and I don’t! AIBU to dislike it now!?

Cannot wait for my DH to go away with work next week and my DD to go to her nan so I can sit in mine on my own and read. Have a glass of wine. Start watching mare of mare town or whatever it's called.

MaMelon · 02/06/2021 22:13

Evidently panther.

happiestbythesea · 02/06/2021 22:15

I loved mine, have sat and looked at the stars at night, all be it without the bubbles off ......... until I read this thread. 😂

Popcornbetty · 02/06/2021 22:32

’Out of interest what are Mumsnet approved activities in someone,s own garden, trampolines are out ,Bar bques are out ,hot tub,s are out ,children can only play silently and God forbid anybody, decides to have a fag in their own Garden.’

Let’s not forget furniture is banned unless made from naturally sourced distressed wood and of course no rattan or wicker in sight. There is no fake grass, decking or decoration of any kind unless it has sprung forth naturally and organically. Food and beverages may not be consumed outside and music not allowed, full attire must be worn at all times. The MN approved garden is the most boring place I have ever imagined in my entire life.

saltwinds - don't let this thread upset you. It's absolutely ridiculous. Plus people who use the term 'chav' as a way of looking down on other people with regard to class are offensive themselves and it's pretty much a classless thing to do. It's not OK to mock people for disabilities and so on so why is it seen as OK to look down on people and call them names with respect to perceived class? It isn't, and it says a lot more about the people doing the name calling than anyone else.

Nothing is inherently 'chavvy' really. I think people who use the term are pretty foul... and need to take a look at themselves and why they feel the need to insult/try to belittle others.

If you want a hot tub go for it. If you don't, don't. I'm sure a lot of people get a lot of enjoyment out of them. I've gone to hydrotherapy and found that helped me so in an ideal world I'd love to have one. Everything has some level of risk. Crossing the road does. Obviously they need to be maintained properly and so on but going in a public swimming pool, for example, carries some risk. It's about balance.

dramaticpenguin · 02/06/2021 22:39

gosh, people are rude. 1, its got chlorine in to keep it clean, if it's maintained and tested properly it's definitely not full of disease.
2, if it belongs to a family it's shared with a lot less people than a public swimming pool, are they "people soup" too??
3, The OP asked if she was being unreasonable to have got fed up with the faff, not if she was unreasonable to own one!

LovelyIssues · 02/06/2021 22:44

@ShirleyPhallus your comment actually made me LOL GrinGrin

jannyapple · 02/06/2021 22:45

@dramaticpenguin this is why I rarely ask a question in MN - can't cope with running the risk of being torn apart by "know all fuck all's" as my old nan used to say

Localocal · 02/06/2021 22:48

Absolute bloody nuisance. We bought a house that had one and at first it seemed like a great thing for the kids. But maintaining it was a huge faff and we never used it enough to justify the hassle. We ended up draining it and it sat there being ugly and taking up space and housing slugs. We finally got rid of it and have never regretted it (thought we hated sending it to landfill.).

Cissyandflora · 02/06/2021 23:03

@FrozenVag

They’re horrible things

We have a Japanese bath which is basically hot tub depth inside, jazzy lights and jacuzzi stuff but no worries about germs etc, the weather, sliding about in flip flops, angry neighbours or maintenance. Why anybody would sit in the same manky water day after day is beyond me

Oh my gosh whatever this is I want it. Off to Google right away! My bathroom is tiny but fingers crossed I could have this!
ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 02/06/2021 23:12

I guess people either can't read or refuse to be educated by those who ACTUALLY know how to maintain a hot tub properly.

assuming the water is dirty bacteria soup is such an ignorant comment.
the chlorine (or bromide or enzyme based stuff) takes care of the biological components, the filters keep the water clean.

nothing's dirty here, just crystal clear water. stop regurgitating utter rubbish

SkintSingleMother · 02/06/2021 23:21

I've coveted a Japanese bath for ages. They look absolutely amazing.

WeIcomeToGilead · 02/06/2021 23:33

@SkintSingleMother

We have one, it’s utterly marvellous
Water goes up to your neck and it’s much shorter and wider than a normal bath but so much deeper!

I’ve just spent an hour online looking at Japanese baths. I’m going to get one. Which do you have if you don’t mind me asking?

kennycat · 03/06/2021 06:06

I’m interested in this thread. We are moving to a house that happens to have one. I’ve never seen the appeal but it’s there so I’ll give it a go. Doesn’t sound like our thing- my husband definitely won’t have any interest but let’s see. How much do they cost to run? What maintenance do you have to do? I guess we will get it removed in time but we’d be silly not to try it out. I think the children would like it for a bit…

scubadive · 03/06/2021 08:38

I’ve never understood them at all. Why would anyone want to sit in a warm bath outdoors and how long can you sit in them before you wrinkle like a prune.

I love all other forms of water, a warm bubble bath, a swim in a pool, a paddling pool on a hot day but a warm pool on a cold evening. Definitely never!

WeIcomeToGilead · 03/06/2021 09:04

@Cissyandflora

We have an omnitub, took about about six weeks to deliver, they’re handmade and come in a variety of colours - luckily
I restrained myself and went for Ivory

Ours is 120cm long and 90cm wide and v deep - my husband is 6’5 and even on him it’s up to his shoulders

Yes it may be clean NOW but it's when people are sitting in it with all the unwiped arses , hairy bits and other things too 🤮 to mention 😂😂😂
TheKeatingFive · 03/06/2021 11:09

Who’s going in with an unwiped arse? 😆

Honestly, the company some of you keep.

MaMelon · 03/06/2021 11:11

Oh yeah...kids always wipe their backsides till they’re squeaky clean Grin

And the farts and dead skin cells and hair and..nope, it’s too grim 🤮

TheKeatingFive · 03/06/2021 11:19

I thought kids weren’t supposed to go into hot tubs?

I can’t get worked up about a few skin cells. What do you thinks going to happen to you? And as it’s generally family, you share beds/bathrooms/living spaces with these people anyway.

It comes across as slightly hysterical.

Clingons 😂😂😂
MaMelon · 03/06/2021 11:29

I thought kids weren’t supposed to go into hot tubs

You really think that it’s only adult members of the same immediate family who use hot tubs?!

TheKeatingFive · 03/06/2021 11:30

If you are the owner of the hot tub, it is entirely within your power to say who uses it.

MaMelon · 03/06/2021 11:38

Absolutely - but judging by many of the responses on here and by the people I know who have used them they’re not usually limited to adult members of an immediate family Grin
