To be falling out of love for the hot tub?

We bought it last summer when lockdown hit. At first it was great.

It’s now becoming a pain, keeping it clean and lid on / off, washing swimwear. I also find DH wants to go in it all the time and I don’t! AIBU to dislike it now!?

We got one first Lockdown as DP suffers back issues and usually has physio but was in shielding group so couldn't go
It's a gigantic pain in the arse. You can't listen to music unless you turn it up incredible/neighbour annoyingly loud due to the jets, and once in, it's just boring.
Ours also got a puncture within 24 hours as DP set it up wrong and without reading the instructions. It's now more patches than pool.
I hate the bloody thing and want my garden back but DP reckons he will be getting it out to see what is left of it after it being in the shed. I'm personally tempted to go in and slash the thing so it can go to the tip.
Lovely idea in theory, practically not so much.

Maintenance is low: wash filters once a week, test the pH etc twice a week and adjust if required. Change water 4 times a year. The trick is to keep your water balanced then everything else will fall into place.

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 02/06/2021 17:59

exactly what we do.
chuck a bit more chlorine in if used for longer than an hour /more than once a day.

kylie122 · 02/06/2021 18:05

So pointless fun for a month and that's it waste of money I think

saltwinds · 02/06/2021 18:05

@Pliudev

Are they a bit like sandwich makers and spiralizers? I mean, you really have to get one and the first few times you wonder why you didn't have one before but then the novelty wears off and they get shoved to the back of the cupboard. Except your hot tub will be a big reminder of its uselessness. I bet your neighbours will be pleased if you are sick of it though. Some friends of mine moved house because the constant hum of next door's hot tub meant they couldn't relax in their own garden. I wonder if they can be recycled? A tropical fish pond?
Despite being filthy, disease ridden chavs (who apparently sit in it with other filthy disease ridden chavs we don’t even know) we are actually quite a long way from any neighbours.

I love ours. Had it for few years now. We live rurally and in the evening, sat in the tub, with a glass of something, it's gorgeous to look up at the stars. I drain it 3 times a year, clean and refill. Takes an hour work. Otherwise, I just check the chlorine pod is full when its used and once a week check and adjust the chemicals with my ph strips - 5 min job.

pollymere · 02/06/2021 18:06

It's always struck me as a huge commitment in terms of cleaning and maintenance. It's a bit like a paddling pool. Fun but then it gets to be a hassle.

LowlandLucky · 02/06/2021 18:13

Read a story in the newspaper last week abut a young woman that lost her leg due to a filthy hot tub. I would rather sit with my feet in a basin of cold water than get in a hot tub.

ZaraCarmichaelshighheels · 02/06/2021 18:15

@CounsellorTroi

Soon it will be outdoor rattan sofas that are chavvy, now that you can get them from Aldi.
There was a thread a while back about rattan sofas! It was pretty much the equivalent to this thread!
mam0918 · 02/06/2021 18:16

If I had the money for a 'spa' thing at home I would rather do a sauna, hammam or steam room type thing in the shed.

Hot tubs just seem like more hassle than they're worth but a sauna in winter would be great (and still usable in summer, the airs so dry here my lungs could spontaniously combust like a forrest fire)

MaMelon · 02/06/2021 18:18

Never understood the attraction of sitting in a bubbling cauldron of other people’s farts and dead skin cells in your surburban back garden Envy

Jonas14 · 02/06/2021 18:21

We have one in our holiday cottage, which is completely secluded a mile away from any neighbour. We clean it out for every set of guests (sleeps 2). I have never been in it and will never will 😂

mineofuselessinformation · 02/06/2021 18:26

I got one today.
I'm the only person who will use it, and just like the above ground pool I had years back, it will be tested and treated regularly.
IME, once you've got to 'know' something like this, the maintenance is not too time-consuming or difficult. The big plus is you don't mind getting in to give it a scrub as it's warm!

DagenhamRoundhouse · 02/06/2021 18:27

Human soup bowl.

x2boys · 02/06/2021 18:31

Ah well I had a pleasent hour in my disease ridden ,chavvy sex pond this afternoon 🤣

Is this the same women who has been mentioned many times now on this thread 🤔
vera99 · 02/06/2021 18:34

There are posh wood-fired ones that chavs can't afford.

MdNdD · 02/06/2021 18:39

I’ve never seen the point of them. I really just don’t get putting swimmers on, in the cold and sitting outside, in the cold but in a hot bath. I thought I was alone as they are so popular. but now realise there are many who feel the same as me :) I also thought it was maybe because I’m not English.

x2boys · 02/06/2021 18:40
There are posh wood-fired ones that chavs can't afford.
Sadly I'm a chav and can only afford the blow up kind, would Mumsnet be worried about the affect, the wood fired ones would have on the environment,or are they only concerned when it's the less well off enjoying laz y spa,s🤔
theDudesmummy · 02/06/2021 18:49

Love ours. We have had an inflatable (in rented houses, just build a protable wooden deck for it) for several years, and now we are building our dream house this will be a major feature of the deck (complete with underwater lights etc). Great for muscle relaxation etc.

Rollergirl999 · 02/06/2021 18:59

Never understood the attraction of them tbh. Never had any desire for one . Bit chavvy IMO

Chocolatehamper · 02/06/2021 18:59

We bought ours 5 years ago and it's great. No CSP! Use it a lot for relieving muscles after surgery. We're as far from the sea as you can get and no local pool so it has been a blessing for the kids. We are out in the countryside so no neighbours to annoy when it purges. We run our own business so can't holiday together unless we close shop so this is our year round relaxation. It's lovely in winter and during meteor showers. Husbands job to maintain it though - he wanted it, he cleans it! Wink

Lippy333

So glad to hear I am not the only one who feel this way about the NHS.

vera99 · 02/06/2021 19:01

Posh or chav looks like the MN Stasi have them banned then.
Hors d'oeuvres... vich must be obeyed at all times vitout qvestion!

In t'old days this was U or non U and hot tubs would be non-U wood fired ones might scrape through as U - especially in a staycationy context and if combined with a yurt.

peppermintpat · 02/06/2021 19:01

I truly believe it's more of a man thing. Went on holiday in the Lakes where we had one and he loved it. I was in it for ten minutes and thoroughly bored.
