To be falling out of love for the hot tub?

We bought it last summer when lockdown hit. At first it was great.

It’s now becoming a pain, keeping it clean and lid on / off, washing swimwear. I also find DH wants to go in it all the time and I don’t! AIBU to dislike it now!?

I truly believe it's more of a man thing. Went on holiday in the Lakes where we had one and he loved it. I was in it for ten minutes and thoroughly bored

So based on the fact your husband loved it and you didn’t you “truly believe” all men love hot tubs and all women dislike them?

theDudesmummy · 02/06/2021 19:14

When I lived in Canada every posh home had a hot tub on the deck....

Some of these videos are just baths though, for me it has to have bubbles. And no swimsuits for us.

theDudesmummy · 02/06/2021 19:18

Different attitudes to hot tubs in other countries! Thanks for posting about the wooden ones, I just told DH he needs to build one!

mineofuselessinformation · 02/06/2021 19:32

@peppermintpat, yet another sweeping generalisation on the thread.
I live alone and am most definitely a woman. And yes, I put it all up by myself too.

OhRene · 02/06/2021 19:32

My SIL had one. The entire family all got nasty bacterial skin infections and the doctor knew they had a hot tub before they got past showing an arm. "Warm bacteria soup pots" he called them.

SIL had followed every maintenance rule to the letter (as far as she knew) and I'm so glad I declined the invite Grin

OhRene · 02/06/2021 19:35

I do think I'd have a hot tub if I could easily drain and refill every time, like a bath. I mean, it would be on the deck of a beautiful cabin too, not in the back garden of my council flat but yeah, I'd have one.

Well exactly,my DH likes lager I don't so clearly all men like it and all women don't ,some of these comments 🤣
motogogo · 02/06/2021 19:43

I personally wouldn't want one because of the upkeep but I wouldn't be bothering with swimwear in my garden!

MonsteraMother · 02/06/2021 19:48

They should only be used with chlorine and a filter...it's really not any more gross than a swimming pool. Maintenance is a 5 minute job every couple of days - no Biggie! In fact, it's less gross because it's just people I know who use ours! The kids absolutely love it and during lockdown it was a lifesaver. Scoff all you like! We love ours!

motogogo · 02/06/2021 19:50

@theDudesmummy

I lived in the Pacific Northwest and most houses had them, some apartments had communal ones

Toomuchtrouble4me · 02/06/2021 19:55

I was thinking of getting one but the sepsis case put me off a bit - now that I know they are noisy and a hassle to Clean, I won’t be putting in a bid for yours op. Get DH cleaning it though.

Kelp23 · 02/06/2021 19:56

So, I have a rigid tub and the maintenance is minimal. Quick spoonful of bromine ( doesn't stink like chlorine) after each use and it will stay clean. I don't wash my swimwear after each htb session as the laundry detergent messes with the water and I make sure I am clean before I get in. Obvs of you have body lotion, makeup poolful of people spilling drinks in it etc it will get manky. It shouldn't be lots of maintenance unlike the inflatable ones which lasted a month before we got pissed off with trying to keep it clean.

JewelGarden · 02/06/2021 19:58

@ImitationofBeing

They are right noisy fuckers aren't they?

A house a few doors away has just got one. We can't believe how loud it is. Made more noisy because they can't hear each other and are shouting "what did you say?" constantly.
But loving their neighbour who has his patio doors open, and in retaliation playing his country western favs and singing along loudly.

Ah the joy of summertime Grin

They look ( and smell) like a cauldron of human soup

I know.

I, husband, and kids, are dirty little shits. Believe it or not I’ve really got it now, after 15 pages.

Horrible things. Give me the creeps. They just seem.so dirty

Gbtch · 02/06/2021 20:29

Yes. Get rid.

FunnyWonder · 02/06/2021 20:30

There was a thread some time back about people who don't like having baths. I hate just sitting/lying there - gazing into space thinking 'so what the hell do I do now?' I feel the same way about hot tubs. Sure, I can't even bring my knitting inGrin Honestly, I'd last 10 minutes!

mightbealittlebitmad · 02/06/2021 20:53

Can't say I have an issue with them but I don't own one and none of my immediate neighbours do either so maybe that's why. I'll sit in the one at the gym from time to time but I get bored so I'm never in long.

Perhaps I'm just lowly though, I have a BBQ which comes out a few times during the summer, I sometimes hang my washing out, have people over to socialise and I even swim in public pools.

CounsellorTroi · 02/06/2021 21:27

I'm a bit [shocked] at the number of people in this thread who won't swim in public pools. Do they discourage their children from using them too?

theDudesmummy · 02/06/2021 21:29

They are not eays "horrible things"!

theDudesmummy · 02/06/2021 21:29

Sorry should have read always

PinkPanther27 · 02/06/2021 21:56

The amount of judgement and derogatory, stereotyping comments on here is what's disgusting - not someone owning a hot tub.
There is no excuse for this level of ignorance and judgement in today's society.

MaMelon · 02/06/2021 21:56

It’s not owning a hot tub that’s disgusting - it’s the bacterial soup that’s in them.

PinkPanther27 · 02/06/2021 22:00

@mamelon if that was aimed at me then you've missed my point.
