To be falling out of love for the hot tub?

We bought it last summer when lockdown hit. At first it was great.

It’s now becoming a pain, keeping it clean and lid on / off, washing swimwear. I also find DH wants to go in it all the time and I don’t! AIBU to dislike it now!?

Playing catch up with the fruit bowl dilemma.

I've never fancied a hot tub and especially since the days when friends had one that was basically a gently simmering container of partially cooked sperm.

x2boys · 02/06/2021 11:43

Out of interest what are Mumsnet approved activities in someone,s own garden, trampolines are out ,Bar bques are out ,hot tub,s are out ,children can only play silently and God forbid anybody, decides to have a fag in their own Garden .

vera99 · 02/06/2021 11:50

Not that I would want one but I guess flags would be out in any circumstances. Probably exceptions for large lawns with tasteful bunting allowed.

Learning to play the harp.

vera99 · 02/06/2021 11:53

@shakingstevensfan LOL to the max ....

x2boys · 02/06/2021 12:03

I suppose sitting quietly might be ok ,but no wine drinking ,as wine drinking is also a big no no .

Dozycuntlaters · 02/06/2021 12:35

I love my hot tub, had one for a few years now. There is nothing better than getting in it coming back from a long walk or the gym or starting the day off in it.

Of course they're not for everyone but I do find people make harder work of them that they need to be. I just make sure the chlorine tablets are always in there and that's about it. Washing costumes? Why? Just get some anti foam and put a bit in when the foam builds up. I never wear a cassie in mine, either get in naked or with my knickers on. I do my best thinking in the hot tub, not really sure why there is so much pudginess on MN for people who have them.

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 02/06/2021 12:57

@PinkSpring

I don't get why people only realise it needs maintenance after they bought one.
everything needs maintenance, and to find out ahead of purchasing a hot tub what costs there are & what needs to be done for regular use is very easy.

also don't these people also regularly clean their baths and/or showers???
I clean the bath after every use.

Not sure, I know lots of people who have them and just thought you had to fill them with water and change the filter every now and again..... they were surprised to learn it needed chemicals to keep the water clean, etc and I doubt they either bother or keep on top of it which is pretty gross.

Well maintained, they are absolutely fine and I do sometimes miss ours on a hot day but with young children and no time, it just became something I was maintaining and not using!

Bearnecessity · 02/06/2021 13:08

Love a bath, hot tubs are minging...I avoid them at all costs when holidaying...

mamawithfive · 02/06/2021 13:18

Ah another U.K. lockdown trend, along with the rattan garden furniture!

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 02/06/2021 13:24

@PinkSpring

I guess I shouldn't be surprised that people are morons and/or too lazy to think ahead.
it's like moving to a house with a garden then whining about the garden needing maintenance. well, duh! what did they expect? I can't think of anything that doesn't need cleaning & fixing regularly: clothes, cars, house, people...no clue why would a hot tub be any difference in some people's heads.
just the dining table gets wiped 2 -3 times a day here.

I understand that if people don't use it regularly then it becomes more hassle than worth. best to get rid of it then.

ours gets daily use (sometimes we use it twice a day) unless we are changing the water or bad planning/ illness gets in the way.
my kids practically lived in it last summer and now that we can have people over I expect nothing less!😁

'Another U.K. lockdown trend, along with the rattan garden furniture!'

And lockdown dogs that arent trained properly where i live! Although we have rattan but didn't get it during lockdown; i do believe in the garden being somewhere nice to relax in!

I have never seen the appeal of sitting in dirty warm water..with people i hardly know..peeing in it and goodness knows what else.No thanks

Flanelle · 02/06/2021 17:29

They're pretty grim tbh. Don't blame you at all.

You're a Bond girl, you've seen worse. Don't tell me that's more appalling than Timothy Dalton in The Living Daylights.

🤣🤣 why do you assume it's dirty??? and why would there be people you hardly know in your private hot tub? are you being invaded?
Crowsandshivers · 02/06/2021 17:33

They are hideous. YABU to get one in the first place

malificent7 · 02/06/2021 17:38

Such a snobby thread about " chavvyness." I like them...in fact i ordered one for dds bday.

absolutely. a lot of incorrect assumptions too.

I love ours. it's a luxury and I'm so glad we could afford one.

Willowowisp · 02/06/2021 17:40

You win mumsnet

Kteeb1 · 02/06/2021 17:42

Refused to get one for exactly this reason. Exciting for a bit and then I'll end up having to clean it. We hired one for bank holiday weekend and DH birthday treat which was perfect. But happy to see it go.

justaweeone · 02/06/2021 17:45

Not a fan of a hot bath or a hot tub myself
But you know, whatever floats your boat!
Life's too short to worry about those who like a hot tubGrin

Pliudev · 02/06/2021 17:49

Are they a bit like sandwich makers and spiralizers? I mean, you really have to get one and the first few times you wonder why you didn't have one before but then the novelty wears off and they get shoved to the back of the cupboard. Except your hot tub will be a big reminder of its uselessness.
I bet your neighbours will be pleased if you are sick of it though. Some friends of mine moved house because the constant hum of next door's hot tub meant they couldn't relax in their own garden.
I wonder if they can be recycled? A tropical fish pond?
