So many posters have twins! And given it can be easy to forget from one thread to the next whether you've had a multiple birth, I wondered if a general twin register might be helpful. Feel free to have a good rummage around at home to see if you have any.

It’s really shit having twins as a Mumsnetter - apparently everything you say is then considered with suspicion because of it. I’ve been here quite a while now and it definitely seems to happen less.

Having twins isn’t weird to me - found out I was having twins at 12 weeks, joined my local twin group and made lots of friends. Most of my mum friends have twins, my Facebook feed is constantly full of twins etc. I guess some people might not know any families with twins but I find the disbelief really weird. It’s not that uncommon.

FrancisCross · 30/05/2021 08:05

11 yo triplets here!

Cismyfatarse · 30/05/2021 08:07

I am a sibling to twins. And one of my twin siblings has twins.

TheViewFromTheCheapSeats · 30/05/2021 08:09

This made me laugh, my sisters are twins (well technically triplets, my brother died soon after birth- but it’s hard to explain that constantly so they’ve always been ‘the twins’)
A good friend has triplets the same age as my middle one, my eldest has best friends who are twins.

I didn’t know it was weird on here! As a teacher we had twins in most year groups, often a few sets and occasionally triplets (interesting deciding how to split them up in a two form entry school!). I have presumed the majority I know are non-IVF as they are the 2nd/3rd/4th in birth order in their families and often close in age to siblings.

Pottedpalm · 30/05/2021 08:10

I have grown up twins.
When they were very young there were three sets of twins in their class of 14 children.

PrimeraVez · 30/05/2021 08:10

I'm currently pregnant with DC3 and my main preoccupation at my first scan was that whether it would be twins or not (I am old, there are twins in my family)

My OB has twins (b/g) and admitted she always felt sorry for any patients who were expecting twins, especially as their first pregnancy, as she knew first hand what hard work it could be!

TheViewFromTheCheapSeats · 30/05/2021 08:15

@Pottedpalm I remember with my eldest when we applied to primary, we only lived 0.26 miles from school but three sets of twins actually lived closer than we did- contributed I think to a tiny cut off distance!

HintofVintagePink · 30/05/2021 08:17

My godmother has twin boys.
I am also a twin, although sadly my twin sibling was stillborn.

ATailofTwoKitties · 30/05/2021 08:17

You weren’t in the northwest at the time, were you?

At one point our school had 13 sets of twins, so 26 out of 200 children.

Does anyone find that when a word is used over and over again it no longer sounds like a real word.

Twins...Grin

eandz13 · 30/05/2021 08:21

My dad's a twin, and my sisters dad's a twin. My DM also dated another twin for a few years in-between our fathers. Running theme for her apparently. We make back-up jokes of course Grin

Greygreenblue · 30/05/2021 08:22

I have twins. I don’t really care if you believe me or not, as long as I remember to look after them, that is the main thing! Incidentally they are not IVF, I wasn’t old or overweight. And there are twins everywhere when you start looking. Weird to think people would be making it up.

Pottedpalm · 30/05/2021 08:24

No, Midlands. I do have a vague memory of seeing news items about a school with a huge number if twins, though.

MinnieJackson · 30/05/2021 08:27

My cousins are twins. My dad's an Irish twin! Grin

MinnieJackson · 30/05/2021 08:28

@Thornrose haha! Yes.

MoesBar · 30/05/2021 08:28

No twins but my younger sisters are twins.

MissKeithsNeice · 30/05/2021 08:31

113: MissKeithsNeice - No twins

And in case my credibility is in any doubt, can I also add: Penis Beaker, Naice Ham, Super Soaker etc etc.

NiceTwin · 30/05/2021 08:32

I am an identical twin, my dh is an identical twin. My ex partner was a non identical twin.
None ivf, we're all far too old for that.

nowlook · 30/05/2021 08:38

Yes, it sounds all wrong now ConfusedGrin

Lovely to see all the RL twins and twin-knowers though.

No twins here, but I'd like to add that women of West African descent are more likely to have twins. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Twin#Predisposing_factors Anecdotally I've known many over the years in my part of London. There are even special names for twins. www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-africa-37912748

Rosti1981 · 30/05/2021 08:43

I have twins but they died the day they were born, so they are no longer with us. I also have two living older children. I used to think twins were really rare as well as baby loss, certainly baby loss late in pregnancy. Turns out not.
Half my work team have twins or are twins and I find it incredibly difficult, I find the twin thing harder than e.g. seeing singleton babies.

Rosti1981 · 30/05/2021 08:43

Why would you make it up anyway? I was 37 when I had my boys.

Twinmammaplusone · 30/05/2021 08:45

I have twins. I also have one of those stories that I’m sure people don’t believe. Dd1 was very very ill and died when she was young. I was about the start ivf (using donor sperm) to avoid recurrence of her condition and fell pregnant naturally with twins.
I don’t know why people would make it up...

rosegoldivy · 30/05/2021 08:50

Sign me up.

3 week old boy girl twins over here.

And a 22 month old DD.

3 kids under 2 years old.

Every day is like the real life hunger games

Pass the coffee 😂😂😂

ibblebibbledibble · 30/05/2021 08:51

I had no idea this was a thing! I didn’t realise posting about having twins automatically made me sound suspicious. There’s another 3 sets in my twins school year, so not at all uncommon.
