So many posters have twins! And given it can be easy to forget from one thread to the next whether you've had a multiple birth, I wondered if a general twin register might be helpful. Feel free to have a good rummage around at home to see if you have any.

No twins here!

Lizardcentral · 30/05/2021 06:58

Being the great niece of twins.
The wife of a twin
The ex MIL of a twin
And now a GM of twins I think I might qualify for the no twins but knows twins section of the register.

Ah got you!

I've never noticed that though? Is that a "thing" that people make up having twins/ people don't believe them if they say they do? I'm a lot more active on the infertility and pregnancy threads I guess[/quote]
I think it's more that, when posters have a slightly unbelievable story, they often seem to have twins which are irrelevant to the story but get mentioned anyway. It's now a bit of an "in joke".

nowlook · 30/05/2021 07:01

@MyOtherProfile

OP I know you SAY you have no twins but have you checked on your previous posts? You could find you do indeed have twins.
Now you mention it, I might have had a couple of sets over the years. Hard to keep track, isn't it?

To those asking whether being a twin counts, that depends on the backstory and whether you are also an only child...

In our village there are three sets of twins living within 9 houses of each other - and another set at school. It isn’t that uncommon here!

DarcyLewis · 30/05/2021 07:02

My friend genuinely has two sets of twins, no ivf just luck Grin

ellesbellesxxx · 30/05/2021 07:05

I have twins!
I know a lot of twins as we have a local twins. Half are IVF like ours 😍

ellesbellesxxx · 30/05/2021 07:06

When I say half, it seems to be about half... I haven’t calculated!

NotQuiteUsual · 30/05/2021 07:07

I really wanted to have twins. Then I had a baby and that was so much hard work, I did not want twins anymore. I wish I had a friend who had twins though, so I could enjoy the excitement from a safe distance.

Cowbells · 30/05/2021 07:07

Some posters with twins pretend not to have them for anonymity.

There are loads more twins around these days due to IVF and women having children later in life (incidence of twins rises a bit after 35 I think.)

Too late. Can I borrow your register?

We had 8 sets of twins in year 7 last year at school

Ifimight · 30/05/2021 07:09

Why would you feel sorry for posters who have twins? I'm incredibly lucky to have two healthy children after a hideous birth experience. Why is that to be pitied?

JustMarriedAndLovingIt · 30/05/2021 07:09

People are being really mean and mocking @nowlook for a lighthearted thread.

You can put me down as a non twin.

However, funny story. Someone I loathe kept moaning about how ginormous she was getting. Anyhow, she was so miffed as her identical twin was really slim so it was like seeing what she could look like if she just stopped eating all the pies.

BertieBotts · 30/05/2021 07:09

Why don't you just post on the multiple births section if you want to talk to other parents of twins?

People are completely stupid about statistics. Just from a quick google, 1 in 65 pregnancies is a multiple one. Most MN posters seem to have 2-3 children so that's about 1 in 30 MNers having twins. Not especially rare or unlikely at all.

cupsofcoffee · 30/05/2021 07:10

As a kid I had a set of identical twin boys in my class. They also had a pair of identical twin brothers six years younger than them.

All adults now but I feel like if their mum posted on here many people wouldn't believe her Grin

I did clarify this in my next post. I feel sorry for posters with twins on MN. because they're not believed. The automatic assumption is that anyone on AIBU who says they have twins is a troll.

That's the whole point of this thread.

millenialblush · 30/05/2021 07:14

I have real life twins. I know a family who have 2 sets (also real life). I think about them whenever I'm having a bad parenting day.

stuckinarutatwork · 30/05/2021 07:15

I don't have twins but my DC are the same size, so most people assume they're twins Grin

My bad!!! Sorry i didn't see that one Flowers

custardbear · 30/05/2021 07:15

Nul points for me on the twin front

If people identify their (imaginary or otherwise) children as twins we should respect that.

EdgeOfACoin · 30/05/2021 07:21

Twins are also much more common in certain ethnic groups than others.

Apparentlystillchilled · 30/05/2021 07:21

There are lots of twins in my extended family too. DDad is a fraternal twin. His twin has fraternal twins and another of their brothers has fraternal twins too. And on my mum's side, my aunts are fraternal twins.

No twins in my generation though. Which was a huge relief!
