To be really surprised at the amount of “naice” middle class people who apparantly do coke?

I see this on mumsnet often that coke use is rife in middle class circles. I’ve never been offered coke on a night out, or seen any of my friends do it: and none of them have ever mentioned doing it.

Aibu to be so naive not to realise it is so widespread

Coke is expensive, it's very middle class IMO

Lucyh179 · 30/05/2021 10:29

@NoIDontWatchLoveIsland

Why do people always put 'naice' on here? Hate that silly word.

Because it's clear, brief and widely understood - it has a specific meaning on here that there isn't another easy/quick way to convey. Why obfuscate things when you can communicate in a way you know others will understand?

Widely understood?! I have no idea what it means!
CrownKettle · 30/05/2021 10:29

Never been interesting in trying recreational drugs despite being around them quite a bit socially, attending raves, etc. I do enjoy a drink which I suppose is just another type of drug, albeit most brewers and distillers aren’t organised criminals.

PinkSatinMoon · 30/05/2021 12:54

@Roodicus21

I've come across it in a nice little middle class village i used to live in. Head teachers, solicitors, engineers all snorting Coke and other drugs. Wouldn't think it to see them in their day role.

and you see evidence of this how ?

socalledfriend · 30/05/2021 13:10

I live in a city and am middle aged/middle class.

I genuinely only know one person who takes coke and he lives in London (and has multiple MH issues)

A colleagues DS recently died of a cocaine overdose Sad but he was young and lived in a rural area.

3scape · 30/05/2021 13:30

Ooo love a good classist thread! People buying drugs are supporting the abuse and criminalisation of vulnerable children and young adults. So not for anyone remotely nice. Hth

WiddlinDiddlin · 30/05/2021 13:50

When I lived on a suburban northern council estate... in my 20's and 30's it was pretty common.

Now I live on a rural midlands council estate... still very common.

I've never been offered it though, everyone knows I don't but if I wanted to I could get it within an hour or so.

I'd say my friendship circle is about 50/50 on who does and who doesn't and ranges from about 22 to 75 years of age and across the board in terms of 'class', work status, income.

I'd say most of the ones frequently using cocaine are the work hard/party harder brigade on an above average income.

How common it appears to be to any one person is going to depend on where they live and their circle of friends and acquaintances.

HeronLanyon · 30/05/2021 14:00

I’m a criminal lawyer and I’d say drug use is common and casualised for a lot of people across all social strata.

Nohugstoday25 · 30/05/2021 14:20

I don’t know I just find it odd that it seems that people believe it’s really common I don’t think it’s rare but I wouldn’t say more than not do it.
My parents are both semi famous and I work in the movie / tv industry ( not famous )

And never been offered coke or seen it.

Maray1967 · 30/05/2021 16:28

People who do this stuff are about as dim as morons at NCT classes who bang on about reusable nappies while getting in a gas guzzling car.
It might well be the case that some folks I know are using this stuff in their own home but if I found out they’ll never be in my house again. The hypocrisy of it is unbelievable. I agree with PP that some of these types will go to any lengths to keep their DC away from the children whose lives they destroy by providing a market for this filth.
The only way to destroy county lines etc is to stop taking this stuff.
And well done to the PP who used the WD40 - excellent.

Chicchicchicchiclana · 30/05/2021 18:07

@Chamonixshoopshoop

Ironically these people that buy coke (with the associated people trafficking, child drug running, exploitation, murder) probably by fair trade chocolate in their Waitrose shop.
This what I find abhorrent. I let the friendship go with the Mum friend I mentioned up thread partly for this reason. Her and her fridge full of organic hummus.
Jjacobb · 30/05/2021 20:08

I think it's more common than people realise.
My 18 year old dd went to Brighton yesterday. On the train home she said there were two middle aged couples snorting lines on the train table quite openly.
I hate coke users, not a thought or care for the lives ruined in the production of this evil drug.

BatshitCrazyWoman · 30/05/2021 20:56

I've lived and worked in London for 38 years. I remember it from working in a big law firm in the City. I found people on coke to be tedious. The same as those who get drunk. Have never seen the appeal. And obviously there's a moral issue too. I wouldn't want to do anything that supported that.

I now work for a religious charity, we're very clean living 😂

MorganKitten · 30/05/2021 21:01

When Covid first started there was a Rumour coke would be a way to kill it off eyeroll

I live in London and worked in the film industry, I’ve seen it a lot and people not being bothered if you saw the, take it - including well known names.

Branleuse · 30/05/2021 22:00

I think naice was from a classic thread years ago. I think it was a spelling mistake. I vaguely remember something about naice ham. Its just stuck as an in-joke. It doesnt have any deeper meaning.

Branleuse · 30/05/2021 22:05

I dont think any of you can really say you know who does and doesnt do drugs. The vast majority of people who use drugs dont just tell all their mates.

That's it! It said 'naice ham' on one of those random shopping lists that people would find in the supermarket and post here. I can recall 'lesbian honey' too.
PinkSatinMoon · 31/05/2021 01:04

lesbian honey., oh my 🤔

Doingtheboxerbeat · 31/05/2021 06:55

Where are people getting this " people trying to be
cool" thing from ? Honestly, you sound like school prefects when you use this term . We are talking about people who are middle aged and may have a substance abuse problem. This isn't Grange Hill.

PermanentTemporary · 31/05/2021 07:04

V middle class but I guess older (50s), never done it, never consciously known anyone who did it, though I do have one cooler friend who has moved in circles where it's done, long ago she preferred acid. A lot of people in my circles who have given up alcohol for various social professional or menopausal reasons, so drug discussion tends to be about that or decaf tea vs caffeinated tea. Really don't think anyone is asking for herbal tea and then having a line off my cistern.

Herja · 31/05/2021 07:24

ExH was more that type. Certainly lines appeared at some of his friends parties - all mc professionals.

I am not very middle class. Doesn't happen at parties I go to. Plenty of weed and drink, often mushrooms (though I don't take hallucinogens), tends to be organic and of known provenance. I quite like a bit of weed, but find coke boring in the extreme. I took plenty of drugs in my younger days; I have always thought coke was the shittest of the lot, it's the one that doesn't really do anything!

Mummadeze · 31/05/2021 07:36

47, living in London, working in media. I don’t know hardly anyone who does it now. Most people are all about and clean living and being healthy. 15 years ago it was a different story.

sbhydrogen · 31/05/2021 07:50

Pre-kids I'd see coke fairly often on nights out and parties. Would have it, too.

I am a 'naice' middle-class gal.

I have no idea why, but this makes me feel so much better when I read the word 'naice'.Grin Thank you!

You really don't think MC people try and live up to a certain persona?!
