Two week holiday, family room, no sex

We are looking to book a special holiday for 2022 to Walt Disney World - two young children, and after researching I think the best option for us would be a family room onsite rather than a villa with separate bedrooms. Husband is grumpy because that would mean no sex for two weeks. I'm frustrated because I don't see how that should be the main factor deciding this type of holiday?! Perspective needed!!

This thread has made Disney holidays seem like the least appealing thing. No sex, no relaxation, no fun.

Littlefluffyclouds13 · 25/05/2021 17:59

@knittingaddict

We did enjoy Disney and we've been to Florida twice, but there is so much more to see and do over there.

Both times we have stayed in gorgeous villas with our own pool and jacuzzi. We hired cars for the whole two weeks and it was easy to do the quick drive to the theme parks. It also meant we could do other things. We went to:

Universal Studios
Seaworld
Clearwater Beach
Busch Gardens
Mount Dora
Anna Maria Island
Orlando
Cape Kennedy (my husband)
Florida Mall
Various restaurants and diners

I can only think that we did Disney all wrong because we definitely weren't too exhausted for socialising or sex.

I know it's horses for courses, but two weeks in Disney resort sounds like hell on earth and I love theme parks.

Please please educate yourself about Seaworld. It's a truly appalling place Sad

Maybe that is the point - crowds DO NOT add to the enjoyment the less people that think it is a good idea the better as far as I can concerned!
knittingaddict · 25/05/2021 18:02

I don't need to educate myself. It was an example of all the places we went to in 2000, before most of the issues were general knowledge. I wouldn't touch it with a bargepole now.

ECN73 · 25/05/2021 18:06

Being onsite is hugely convenient but yes, unless you pay crazy money for the family suites at some of the value resorts or stay at a DVC property you will be sharing a room. And in the moderate hotels the main bit if the bathroom is only separated by a curtain so the only truly private place is the toilet/bath area. It wasn’t the most romantic place but it served its purpose a couple of times lol

Maybe compromise - we always do split stays so we did 12 days onsite and 8 offsite. We had a lot more sex offsite :-) we got a great villa and it’s wonderful to have a little downtime after 12 full on park days.

The kids clubs are news to me.

Seems to be only ages 4-12.

I can’t believe the stick this guy’s getting for wanting to have sex on a two week expensive holiday. Before my libido went MIA - thanks menopause - I’d never have entertained the idea of a sexless holiday.

Your list comes across as a list of tips/recommendations for people holidaying in Florida. If I'd ever gone to Seaworld, I'd either never mention or always point out how horrendous it is.

Flipping heck, it's only for a fortnight and they might have sex, they just don't know yet.

What is unattractive about this is the man moaning in advance (the holiday is planned for next year, not this), and being grumpy. From what people say, there will be plenty of other things to enjoy there. It isn't just his holiday, it's a family holiday.

Loveacoseynightin · 25/05/2021 18:51

@Littlefluffyclouds13 get over yourself Seaworld is only like any other zoo. It still is a fantastic theme park with great roller coasters

I’d moan in advance and be grumpy too! Yes, it’s a family holiday, that means a holiday for every member of the family, not just the ones who aren’t paying!

Are you f*ing joking?
Please educate yourself. It's absolutely nothing like a zoo, honestly the ignorance on here astounds me sometimes Hmm

Wearegoingtoneedabiggerboat · 25/05/2021 19:21

Has this Prince amongst men ever actually been on a two week holiday to Disney world before. It’s a flippin endurance test not a relaxing romantic holiday.
Number one priority is to collapse
In bed and get a good night sleep before walking up ridiculously early to relive the torture again for another 12 hours.
He’s being ridiculous alone for thinking sex is any where on the list of priorities

And is 'get over yourself' your amazing and clever response to anyone who dares to challenge your limited understanding?

Loveacoseynightin · 25/05/2021 19:49

@Littlefluffyclouds13 What limited understanding would that be then please do enlighten me?

rookiemere · 25/05/2021 19:50

@Wearegoingtoneedabiggerboat I'm baffled why anyone would experience WDW in the way you describe. You describe it as actual torture.

It seems weird to me to spend £6-10k of family money to have such an awful time, which is why when we went we deliberately didn't make it 14 hr park days with no downtime.

We even managed to have sex most days, because believe it or not some women also enjoy sex on holiday.

FaceAcher · 25/05/2021 19:58

We adore Disney holidays.

We also love sex.

But it's also fine that now we take kids the two aren't enjoyed at the same time much.

If you want a sex holiday then yes get a villa. If you want to get the best from your Disney trip then stay onsite.

To us the benefits of onsite far outweigh the drawbacks. So that's what we do. The hotels are beautiful. If we're having a day at the hotel and not the parks then we'll be at the pool, in the lobby, browsing the shops, trying the restaurants/bars, walking the grounds etc. I might go to the spa. Watch a movie on the big screen on the beach. Sit around the fire pit toasting marshmallows. Walk out onto the Savannah and watch the giraffes/hogs. (Depends which resort we are at)

Maybe chill for an hour in the room with the AC on but we've paid a lot to be there so want to see and do as much as we can. We can lounge around in bed at home.

Plenty of relaxing to be had a Disney World if you want it. But we go knowing we'll be quite non stop. And tend to alternate years with a beachy read by the pool summer trip.

Your limited understanding of Sea World is the giveaway.
The fact that you compare it to a zoo, says everything about your incredible ignorance.
But hey, enjoy your 'fantastic rollercoasters' Hmm

It was literally a list of things we did other than Disney to show that there are lots of things to do. I watched Black Fish years ago and wouldn't go back again. I don't expect my list to sway others to go where we went exactly. Everyone is an adult here. No need to have a go.

Coldwine75 · 25/05/2021 23:08

We loved Seaworld, really great place.

Maybe consider your future with a husband who cant do without sex for 2 weeks, how lame.

stardust40 · 25/05/2021 23:16

We stayed in family room for 2 weeks with kids aged 6 and 10. It was fine for us.....no one was awake!! We would literally walk in the door...shower and sleep!! Me and oh we're just as tired as the kids as we stayed out till late! We have also been and stayed in a villa which was beautiful. I would always pick the on-site room now.....so hassle free with the transport and the hotels are magical!

@WelcometoJam

Who are the women that marry these menHmm
I suppose they don't anticipate such issues. I would have been quite shocked and put off if my husband had been sulking over no sex for two weeks, I cannot abide that sort of lack of self control, but he wouldn't have been like that.
Lentil63 · 26/05/2021 00:10

I’m much older now but regularly did Disney holidays when our boys were young.
I think we both always felt that a Disney holiday was all about the children. Our boys now men with families of their own remember them with great affection. I’m so glad we gave them great memories (not just at Disney).
There are all sorts of joy to experience but few compare to our children’s happiness. It’s only two weeks and you can have bathroom sex while they’re asleep. Honestly I do think he’s being quite selfish. 😔

Have you ever dipped your toe into the world of online dating? 'I love paying good money to view cruelty to wildlife and love a sexless fortnight away' Honestly you'd be snapped up!!
