Can't deal with the rain

Trivial yes but actually genuinely getting me down. At the risk of sounding pathetic, I'm really affected by the weather and light. I use a Lumi light box alarm clock to wake me up as I struggle to wake in the dark and I find myself so much happier in the summer.

Our family are really outdoorsy. Im most definitely not a lie in bed and watch TV type.

I can't cope with the lack of spring and constant rain. I've just walked the dogs and felt genuinely sad and frustrated that it's unrelenting. We live rurally so I have all the waterproofs so I wasn't wet but it's so I pleasant. I dread taking them out and it's normally my special time. My kitchen and boot room are caked in mud from kids and dogs. I'm washing two dog towels a day and I'm one step from buying the chickens wellies. We are still going out walking but honestly I can't spend another weekend not able to do the garden and being stuck indoors.

I know it's a first world problem and on the scheme of things really unimportant but it's really affecting my mood that I can't take any more rain and cold weather.

Today is dry at least. DH hurriedly mowing the lawn and I'm starting to try and at least tidy some borders. Annoyingly the scheduled lawn mow meant I couldn't do any real washing. (Just a school blazer and jumper)

I hate it. I'm outdoorsy and will hike (and socialise) in all weathers provided I have waterproofs but now it's really getting to me. I'm pregnant and still being cautious with indoor meetings, and I feel like the weather has killed off opportunities for seeing friends outside safely for a walk or a drink. So many plans have been cancelled over the past months and it's making me feel quite isolated. My amazing little sister agreed to go swimming with me today at an outdoor lido and it just felt amazing not to be stuck indoors or going for yet another sodding walk on my own.
My husband grew up in a country that is hot and sunny most of the year and struggles with winters in the UK anyway, and this crappy spring is really affecting his mood too.

I dont mind rain, I really quite like walking under my big brolly hearing it pelting down and watching it out the window. But I think it's the fact it's also really cold and really windy and just relentless.

I'm no summer lover, as in my PP I love spring/autumn. Pre hayfever season basically. I can get some sun, get some rain, temps usually arent horrific and fill up on vitamin d before severe hayfever has me holed up indoors from late june through to early august. Instead, I've been stuck indoors, battling gale force winds and driving rain on the school runs and our garden looks like a nature reserve.

I remember, I think it was 2018, we had relentless sun for MONTHS! My MIL drove down from Scotland and she said it was almost staggering seeing the change in the colour of fields etc from the greens of Scotland and northern england to the parched browns of East england. I also remember dancing in the rain with the kids when it finally rained.

Blooming’ hell! Rain is fine. BUT. JUST. NOT. IN. MAY. ALL. THE. FECKIN’ TIME.

As for the wind & cold, I don’t even have any words left. ..

Same. It is bloody dreadful.

lollipoprainbow · 24/05/2021 08:58

Late for school run this morning, dd not wanting to go insisted on wearing short socks ! We get to the car and the heavens opened, my car key fob is being very temperamental with opening and locking the car and it chose this moment to not work so I'm standing in the pouring rain trying to open it and getting more and more pissed off, damn this crap weather ! Sad

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 24/05/2021 09:08

We have hail forecast again for this hail. It's always at school up time too!

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 24/05/2021 09:58

Well it’s soft play and more fucking baking for us today- how is it nearly June?!

DynamoKev · 24/05/2021 10:48

What the hell use is moaning about the weather? At least with politics we get a vote.

Moaning about things we can't change or control is about all we can do.
Crackbadger · 24/05/2021 11:13

Same. Garden a mess, wet, muddy dogs daily.
I just ordered myself a new brightly coloured raincoat to cheer myself up (if that doesn't stop the rain, nothing will)

Crackbadger · 24/05/2021 11:22

@originalyellowbelly so sorry about your cat

postitgirl · 24/05/2021 13:05

Staring out at the hail and wind and rain. Feeling so de-motivated about life.

HintofVintagePink · 24/05/2021 13:43

Cheering myself up watching the flowers, plants and grass growing so fast with all the sunny showers. When we do finally get a break in the weather I’m going to enjoy tidying up the garden

wishes1111 · 24/05/2021 13:51

Agreed OP, my depression is definitely worse in the winter/dull wet weather.

Fruityfriday · 31/05/2021 14:07

The summer moaning threads have started🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 31/05/2021 14:55

@Fruityfriday

The summer moaning threads have started🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Can we invade them and tell them to stop moaning, it's only weather? Oh, and that they need to wear the proper clothes for it??! Grin
