Can't deal with the rain

Countrygirl2021 · 21/05/2021 07:41

Trivial yes but actually genuinely getting me down. At the risk of sounding pathetic, I'm really affected by the weather and light. I use a Lumi light box alarm clock to wake me up as I struggle to wake in the dark and I find myself so much happier in the summer.

Our family are really outdoorsy. Im most definitely not a lie in bed and watch TV type.

I can't cope with the lack of spring and constant rain. I've just walked the dogs and felt genuinely sad and frustrated that it's unrelenting. We live rurally so I have all the waterproofs so I wasn't wet but it's so I pleasant. I dread taking them out and it's normally my special time. My kitchen and boot room are caked in mud from kids and dogs. I'm washing two dog towels a day and I'm one step from buying the chickens wellies. We are still going out walking but honestly I can't spend another weekend not able to do the garden and being stuck indoors.

I know it's a first world problem and on the scheme of things really unimportant but it's really affecting my mood that I can't take any more rain and cold weather.

Please send the rain my way!

My city is seriously short of rain for May and I have a metal roof which means it sounds amazing when it’s properly raining.

MmeLaraque · 21/05/2021 11:11

If anyone finds chicken wellies, I really want to see them.

I'm relieved we're getting some rain, We had almost four weeks without any rain at all, so the ground was dry. Difficult to grow crops in that.

Of course, now my tomatoes are shivering in the greenhouse, courgettes have to be sheltered too, because they don't like it cold.

The dog walking was fun this morning. I enjoy my morning walks, and the blustery winds really helped this morning, because no one wanted to stand and chat, so I could crack on and just walk. The dog enjoyed it, too......

If/when the gulf stream moves, things may warm up a bit. If it doesn't, I'm going to need to grow some tomatoes in the garage, and the ducks will be verra, verra happy.

Originalyellowbelly · 21/05/2021 11:19

We decided to forego a holiday this year and get the garden done professionally instead, we bought a new gazebo and new garden furniture and all it's done since is rain, wind and more rain. It's really depressing me to see the weather report every day, now my cat has terminal cancer and I'm so fed up and feel there's nothing to look forward to.

stripeyflowers · 21/05/2021 11:38

YANBU.

I keep promising myself a really long walk but the prospect of being out in all this grey, damp weather it just too depressing.

Etinox · 21/05/2021 11:42

Here you go!

Can't deal with the rain
Awwlookatmybabyspider · 21/05/2021 11:48

Same. I'm 45 and I've never known a May like this. This is beyond bad weather, its ridiculous. I do fully agree with PP who said. Things just seem better when the sun is not. Well not even the sun just blue skies are enough.
I mean ill even take over cast as long as its dry.

Januaryissodull · 21/05/2021 11:51

Oh op honestly you're not alone.

This weather is getting everyone down now. It's been pretty much none stop rain since the start of May.

QuestionableMouse · 21/05/2021 11:56

Honestly I don't generally mind the rain but it's chilly too and nothing is growing. I planted veg at the end of April and half the pots look drowned. I have a few brave pea plants venturing out but I'm sure my carrots and tomatoes have failed. My dog hates rain so getting him out for the exercise he needs is a chore.

I'm also sick of getting soaked at work then having to spend hours is wet uniform (or managing to get it dry only to get soaked again). I'm sure that's not helping how generally grotty I feel atm!

AlfonsoTheTerrible · 21/05/2021 12:14

I don't mind rain in general but it's May and I'm desperate for some warm sunny weather.

It's the farmers I worry about - I hope they won't be too affected.

LemonSherbetFancies · 21/05/2021 12:22

Yeah, it's getting old now. The constant rain and wind is beyond irritating. People are having to wear winter coats and it is nearly June. Hmm

ChangePart1 · 21/05/2021 12:25

YANBU to feel the way you do, that must be awful.

I’m the opposite in that I absolutely love rainy, wet, cold dark weather and thrive over winter. I want the wet days to continue as long as possible as I really can’t stand a long hot summer. So while there are some people who are hating all of this rain there are others relishing it! We’re all different.

Nsky · 21/05/2021 12:25

The rain gets to me too.
The winter and spring have been depressing weather wise.
I have family abroad, I miss them and some decent weather, too long 14 months without seeing family.

tattleandbagels · 21/05/2021 12:28

YANBU

but the only solution is either to spend as long as possible on holidays or just move. The only reason I stuck with the UK is to save enough to relocate in style soon. It's very grim.

Then when we finally have some sun and barely reach 20c, we have to put with people fainting because of the "heat wave".

gurglebelly · 21/05/2021 12:29

It's the relentlessness of it for me, it feels like it has basically been raining since Christmas!

CheerfulBunny · 21/05/2021 12:35

Just looked at next week's forecast and wish I hadn't bothered.

As a pp says, it's the sodding wind I can't stand. My car has a leaky roof and when the wind is very strong, I have to constantly monitor the cover in case it blows off and disappears down the street. Who in their right mind would buy a bloody convertible in this country? Serves me right, probably Hmm

Flaunch · 21/05/2021 12:37

It’s shit but we needed it. We’ve had a couple of unusually dry years so I guess we’ll need to fill the reservoirs etc.

I’m not at all looking forward to dealing with the million dandelions that have spring up in my garden! Not al all!

belinda789 · 21/05/2021 12:39

A previous poster mentioned the rain in King Lear. As the rain came flooding under my back door during the storm on Sunday evening I had to start mopping the floor. I remembered the song in King Lear and I cheered myself up by singing my own version:-

With a hey ho, the wind and the pain.
The wind it paineth every day……

Apologies to Shakespeare.

Me too! I'm called all sorts by the 'hotter the better ' brigade. I'm also in the minority. This weather suits me! The thought of a heatwave makes me feel worried. I hate it too hot.

The buggers are machines. I mowed in the two hour dry window on Saturday. (Literally was practically running along with the mower to get it back in before it rained Grin) and by Monday the dandelions were all 2 inches tall. I wished I had put a video camera on them 🤣.

I see we have had people that can't comprehend that A) seasonal affective disorder is very real and has a very real impact on people and B) we know it's not compatible to a pandemic and it is only water but we are entitled to be bothered by it.

MaudBaileysGreenTurban · 21/05/2021 12:47

YANBU. I like a good downpour but it's so grey and windy and chilly as well. Just relentless miserable dreich weather. The house is fucking freezing as well.

Keep thinking back to last May when we basically lived outside for weeks on end. Despite lockdown it made things seem a little bit more manageable (apply usual caveats about awareness of people who didn't have gardens here obviously).

I just want a bit of warmth and bright skies!

TurdCrapley · 21/05/2021 12:47

Ugh, yes it's so rubbish. The wind is driving me mad too. Can't go out in it cause DS and the dog cry🥴I don't need it to be baking hot, just dry and calm.

PaperbackRider · 21/05/2021 12:48

And in the bigger scheme of things, very minor....there's a pandemic going on, people are dying, there are wars, oppression and global environmental disaster and you're not liking the rain?!!

I absolutely loathe people who talk like this. Yes, we all know there are worse things happening but shaming people for complaining about something less than war and death is such shitty behaviour. We're allowed to be unhappy about things, and say so.

NoFashion · 21/05/2021 12:49

This weather is shit.

It seems so endless.

It's late May and we still have our winter duvet on and the heating!!!!

I've got new dresses I want to wear. And new sandals I got in the sale last year that I'm desperate to get out!!

the80sweregreat · 21/05/2021 13:09

I guarantee that by the beginning or mid June it'll be hot and all this bad weather will be a distant memory.
( then I'll start a ' it's too hot ' thread )..

OohKittens · 21/05/2021 13:14

I'm the opposite, I love the dark, wind and rain. I would love to live somewhere that is like this all the time. The past two days I've been so happy.
