Can't deal with the rain

Countrygirl2021 · 21/05/2021 07:41

Trivial yes but actually genuinely getting me down. At the risk of sounding pathetic, I'm really affected by the weather and light. I use a Lumi light box alarm clock to wake me up as I struggle to wake in the dark and I find myself so much happier in the summer.

Our family are really outdoorsy. Im most definitely not a lie in bed and watch TV type.

I can't cope with the lack of spring and constant rain. I've just walked the dogs and felt genuinely sad and frustrated that it's unrelenting. We live rurally so I have all the waterproofs so I wasn't wet but it's so I pleasant. I dread taking them out and it's normally my special time. My kitchen and boot room are caked in mud from kids and dogs. I'm washing two dog towels a day and I'm one step from buying the chickens wellies. We are still going out walking but honestly I can't spend another weekend not able to do the garden and being stuck indoors.

I know it's a first world problem and on the scheme of things really unimportant but it's really affecting my mood that I can't take any more rain and cold weather.

It’s all my fault, I’m so sorry! I made myself 2 sleeveless Summer dresses! 🥺

CarlottaValdez · 22/05/2021 16:51

Ah got you! I lived in Italy for a couple of years in my youth and it sounded wrong to me but yes when it does rain it can be torrential,

I shaved my furry hobbit legs so I'll share the blame.

I usually love a good rainfall but not like this, it feels like it's been cold since October now.. and May is never like this! It's always absolutely mafting. I remember VE day last year was a scorcher. I don't need heat but just some lovely dry Spring days 🙏🏼

CookPassBabtridge · 22/05/2021 17:55

It makes everything shitter.. the dog trails mud in, sopping wet school runs etc.

Rubyupbeat · 22/05/2021 17:57

I absolutely love the rain. And yes I am an outdoorsy person, with 2 large hairy dogs.
I felt invigorated by it, the only annoying thing in the mess it brings in the house, mud etc....
It makes me feel alive!

Gwenhwyfar · 22/05/2021 18:23

Oh yes, so invigorating than being stuck in cold, wet clothes!

(I don't mind a storm in the middle of a heat wave where I'm close to home and no chance of getting too cold)

Gwenhwyfar · 22/05/2021 18:27

@the80sweregreat

Yes, I can understand why people hate the rain and cold. I live in the south East so if it's hot it's very hot and uncomfortable: I appreciate that the whole of the UK is different and some do not get much of a summer at all. I am just not good with heat personally and miserable while everyone else is out soaking it up and laying out in it like lizards!!
I've been to the south east of England. It's not that effing hot.

I agree, I’m Scottish and live in rhe south east now and no it’s not they effing hot. Don’t get me wrong it’s warmer than glasgow but it ain’t the Caribbean…

Housewife2010 · 22/05/2021 21:11

I really like the weather at the moment. I hate it when it's really hot. As long as the rain isn't too heavy I'm happy to go out in it and it's nice and cosy in the house when it's pouring down outside. Our lawn is looking really good too.

SnapDragonCat · 22/05/2021 23:47

I find the heatwaves we've had over the last couple of years too hot and uncomfortable because of the humidity. I envy people who don't mind it. Wish I didn't! Would be nice to enjoy it.

Zzelda · 23/05/2021 00:10

It can be. Four or five years ago we had around six weeks on the trot of blazing hot weather and I absolutely hated it.

aquashiv · 23/05/2021 00:40

I love the rain. Its beautiful and cleans everything. Spent the day in the garden weeding and planting.. A nice hot bath afterwards and all is right with the world.

Bluntness100 · 23/05/2021 07:07

Well we woke up to bright sunshine this morning, hope that’s it turning now ans summer is on its way. 🙏🏻

bishbashbosh99 · 23/05/2021 07:14

Sorry I haven't read the full thread but it's getting better next week so hang in there 😘😘

Wanderlust20 · 23/05/2021 07:16

I'm in Scotland so if the rain got me down, I'd be forever depressed! Grin

Oblomov21 · 23/05/2021 07:17

I too find rain, and the weather we've had recently, the miserable grey, can get me down.
I'm not an outdoorsy person, I'm happy being at home, popping out to get some food.
But as if covid hasn't been bad enough, the recent weather has just made it all more miserable than it even needed to be.

year5teacher · 23/05/2021 07:25

It’s been ok for me because I dread the hot weather in my classroom and this has given us some time to find a solution. I also think that (where I am at least) this looks like the last day of it! It is a shame though. May is usually my favourite month.

Zzelda · 23/05/2021 07:44

Forecast for today: more rain. But the end of the week looks quite a bit better.
DeadButDelicious · 23/05/2021 08:08

I am well known for disliking all things hot and bright but even I am getting a bit sick of all this darkness and rain, mostly the rain, it just makes everything harder, the nursery run is no fun, our park is a big muddy mess and I can't get my washing pegged out. We've just started school break as well so I'm really hoping it eases off as two weeks of dragging a 4 year old round in the rain does not sound fun.

MmeLaraque · 23/05/2021 10:35

@Flaunch

It’s shit but we needed it. We’ve had a couple of unusually dry years so I guess we’ll need to fill the reservoirs etc.

I’m not at all looking forward to dealing with the million dandelions that have spring up in my garden! Not al all!

Leave the dandelions for the bees. Or pick the young leaves for salads (I shit you not). I just mow the ones in the lawn, and pick off the heads once they've turned into "clocks".
OnlyFoolsnMothers · 23/05/2021 13:12

I’ve had enough!!! This weather is fucking torture with young restless children

SheldonesqueTheBstard · 23/05/2021 13:30

It stayed dry enough over 24 hours to let me cut the grass. Dandelions have been left for the bees.

Happy days Grin

Until tonight when it is supposed to be pelters again...

lynsey91 · 23/05/2021 14:17

I have managed to do some gardening as it has been dry (so far) but it is so windy.

I would just like to spend some time in the garden when it is dry, not windy and warmish

whatswithtodaytoday · 23/05/2021 14:27

It's not so much the rain I mind, especially after such a dry spring. But the cloud is really getting me down, I'm another who is massively affected by light levels and dread deepest winter, and I'm fed up with the lack of blue sky at the moment.

I'm finding getting outside helps, even in the rain, but without an umbrella or hood so that I can still see the sky. Yes I get wet, but at least I feel better!
