Can't deal with the rain

Countrygirl2021 · 21/05/2021 07:41

Trivial yes but actually genuinely getting me down. At the risk of sounding pathetic, I'm really affected by the weather and light. I use a Lumi light box alarm clock to wake me up as I struggle to wake in the dark and I find myself so much happier in the summer.

Our family are really outdoorsy. Im most definitely not a lie in bed and watch TV type.

I can't cope with the lack of spring and constant rain. I've just walked the dogs and felt genuinely sad and frustrated that it's unrelenting. We live rurally so I have all the waterproofs so I wasn't wet but it's so I pleasant. I dread taking them out and it's normally my special time. My kitchen and boot room are caked in mud from kids and dogs. I'm washing two dog towels a day and I'm one step from buying the chickens wellies. We are still going out walking but honestly I can't spend another weekend not able to do the garden and being stuck indoors.

I know it's a first world problem and on the scheme of things really unimportant but it's really affecting my mood that I can't take any more rain and cold weather.

Ahh you wonderful people. My husband always tells me it's just weather and I can't change it. He's right but bloody irritating that I just want sympathy for how it's making me feel.

I'm sorry you all feel the same but I feel less aline in my rage now

I'm just stuffing another log on the stove to cheer myself up and wondering how we are using next winters log store already.

Sorry you're feeling this way but you've brightened up my day with the image of chicken wellies...!

LadyCatStark · 21/05/2021 08:23

It’s hideous, absolutely hideous. We’ve just got at puppy last weekend and the poor thing hates doing out and he has to all the time as he’s doing really well with his toilet training and I don’t want him to go backwards. The poor thing can’t even get any exercise as he just sits and cries to go back in. I was in the back garden in wellies and an Oodie at 6am this morning.

AfternoonToffee · 21/05/2021 08:25

Even my DH who rarely passes comment said in a very fed up manner yesterday that he was fed up of the rain. TBF to him though he does do the school run.

CarlottaValdez · 21/05/2021 08:27

I’m normally pretty chill about the weather but I’ve really had enough now. It’s fucking relentless

emmylousings · 21/05/2021 08:28

It's awful. I feel like my capacity to stay positive despite it, is diminished by everything else this year. It feels rather cruel, though I know that's silly.

Amdone123 · 21/05/2021 08:29

Totally agree, op. It's horrendous. And it might not be a first world problem, but it's annoying you, so vent all you like.
I'm going for a pub lunch today. I would love to dress up, but can see me settling for jeans and waterproofs.

I would love to see your chickens in wellies.

Roselilly36 · 21/05/2021 08:29

Totally fed-up of the weather too. YANBU OP.

LakieLady · 21/05/2021 08:30

@LadyCatStark, YABVU to post about a new puppy and not include a picture!

One of my beloved lakies hated wind for all of her 15+ years. If you turned a corner which meant you were walking into the wind, she'd sit down and refuse to walk. I often had to pick her up and carry the little madam. I really miss her and her funny ways.

Crayfishforyou · 21/05/2021 08:32

Yanbu
I have a 7 month old puppy needing 3 walks a day
My coat now smells mouldy as it never gets to dry out.
My hair is a frizzy mess, there is no point in wearing makeup
I can’t see anything as I wear glasses
It’s my fault too. I brought the rain as I bought a hot tub and built a sun terrace in my garden
Sorry everyone!

Fairyliz · 21/05/2021 08:36

I hate it!
I also wear glasses so they get covered in rain, then you have to wear a bloody mask if you go in anywhere so they also steam up and I’m effectively blind.
My shins are covered in bruises where I have walked into things.

Alfiemoon1 · 21/05/2021 08:39

I feel the same I have a few days off work as supposed to of been having new windows fitted which isn’t happening due to a glass shortage but planned on painting my new fence panels and taking the dog on lovely long walks but it’s constantly raining and cold it’s just miserable so I can’t be bothered with anything

Youdoyoutoday · 21/05/2021 08:41

I feel the same!! This time last year we were in a heat wave and this year, I almost feel like the weather has a personally vendetta against me as I only have think of going outside and it's pissing down!!

I'm not outdoorsy and can happily veg on the sofa but after a year of doing that, I want to get out in the fresh air but its always bloody raining!! I hate it!

BarkingUpTheWrongRoseBush · 21/05/2021 08:42

I’m taking 3 days off work next week as I’ve hardly been able to get in the garden this year. It’s been too cold and or too wet every weekend.

I’m fed up of waterlogged plant pots, the slugs and small battered looking plants.

Have unrealistically high hopes of the BH weekend....but no doubt someone will want me to do something other than garden all the time! It’s my first year of this garden and I was so excited!

elliejjtiny · 21/05/2021 08:43

Yanbu. I hate the rain and the cold. Like a pp said, the rain is like steroids for the weeds. I want to get the dc out in the garden and dry my washing.

megletthesecond · 21/05/2021 08:44

Yanbu.
I like a wildlife friendly garden but even I'm frowning at the chaos out the back. My veg isn't growing but the grass is.

Zzelda · 21/05/2021 08:54

We've just had an April with unusually light rainfall. Can we really not cope with three weeks of intermittently wet weather after that?

Leodot · 21/05/2021 08:54

Totally agree. I had my baby in March and was looking forward to getting out for walks now that we are past the newborn madness stage and I can actually think straight. We’ve hardly left the house as it’s so wet and cold and it’s just no fun wandering around in the freezing rain 😞. We live rurally as well and the baby groups and things haven’t started up yet either so I’m feeling a bit lonely. I’m glad my husband WFH so at least I can have a conversation with him if I get desperate for company 😂😳.

mrsbob · 21/05/2021 09:01

Yes, I'm with you. I lost my mum earlier this year and I'm worried about my dad. If he could spend a few hours a day pottering about in the garden in the sunshine I know it would do him the world of good. Instead he's stuck in the house 🌧

noblegreenk · 21/05/2021 09:03

You have all my sympathies! The weather is appalling, and, as you said - relentless! I'm not usually affected by the weather and seasons but the past few weeks are wearing on me. I'm not particularly outdoorsy either but I'm still furloughed and still at home all day with a 2yr old. She's desperate to get outside, but whenever we do she just moans that it's wet and wants to go home. We go home and then she doesn't know what to do with herself. We've exhausted all of our craft play and she's bored to death of her toys. I even sent her to the childminder a couple of days this week just for a break from her and I'm not enjoying being a mum at the mo. I'm just praying for the dryer weather to return to make life a bit easier. I know things will get better but the rain is going on a bit.

CallieJones · 21/05/2021 09:04

Yanbu. I went in the garden yesterday and it felt wintery, like November. I was considering going with it and getting the Christmas decorations out. (Not really)

merrygoround88 · 21/05/2021 09:06

OP I hate it and having dogs seems to make it feel so much worse. I’ll reluctantly live with a rainy walk myself but a walk with a wet dog and the palaver afterwards is too much.

Add to that kids boots , studs etc and it’s Sad

theemmadilemma · 21/05/2021 09:13

April was the coldest since 1922 and now we have this shit called May with the coldest May Day Bank holiday in 43 years.

Granted last year was unusually good. Seems unfair this year is unusually bad.

We moved into a house with a huge garden in Nov, and although I've still enjoyed it through Winter, I'm dying to get out there properly. For the first time I've tried to grow my own food and I'm stuck because of the bloody weather.

Iquitit · 21/05/2021 09:22

It's pissing me off as well, as a couple of pp have said though, it's the wind that really naffs me off, rain and wind together is just awful.
My garden looks like a jungle because I can't get anything done, the horses field is like a bog again and the wind makes them stupid, overeacting arseholes quite honestly and I'm constantly dodging them as they freak out at the hedge that's been there all the time but is suddenly a horse eating hedge they're fed up of being wet but caked in mud as rolling in it seems to be a favourite pass time ATM, it's making the grass grow like hell so I'm having to restrict them more so they don't get too fat or ill. Ragwort and docks are a daily battle almost.
2 small dogs, close to the floor means they're almost permanently covered in mud which I normally get a reprieve from at this time of year.

And I'm off work this week too. FFS.
It'll be bloody glorious when I'm back won't it?!
It just all seems so depressing, and yes there's bigger problems, and we can't do anything about it but a but a bit of sunshine or even just a drop in the wind and a bit of dry would help!

Couchbettato · 21/05/2021 09:22

Rain 👍 wind and rain 👎.

I'm not the walking type though really. I don't find anything enjoyable about using my legs to get from A to B whether there's sun rain hail or snow.

I am an avid gardener though so it's a bit of a delight when I don't have to go and water all the plants so my outlook might be different to someone who has to walk their dogs in it.
