Do you iron all your kids clothes?

Had a 'heated' discussion with DM because she doesn't like the fact that I dont iron my DC2's clothes.

I used to iron DC1's as I had plenty of time on my hands but now with another child, a dog and a partner I just don't see it as an important job anymore.

Their clothes look fine, most things are tumbled and then hung straight up so they don't even look like they need an iron, never have I looked at my kids and thought oh god you can't tell I haven't ironed that and never has anybody beside DM ever mentioned it to me either.

Yes, I do 🤷🏼‍♀️

freakyfridays · 20/05/2021 18:29

@SteveBuscemisRheumyEye

Those that iron everything, when do you do it? There's just 3 of use but I can't see when I would fit it into my life?

I actually like ironing. I find it therapeutic

I don't mean that in a goady way, but if you had the tv or radio on instead of social media like MN, you could find the time then. If you wanted to, I don't!
GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 20/05/2021 18:30

I don't iron anyone's clothes, ever.

DNTSleepingDragons · 20/05/2021 18:31

School shirts, dresses and skirts are the only things that get ironed in this house.

pumpkinpie01 · 20/05/2021 18:31

Nope , life is too short so much doesn't need ironing if it's folded up /hung up straight out of the tumble drier or off the line

PastaLaVistaBBY · 20/05/2021 18:31

My MIL irons all my baby clothes - I wouldn’t bother myself!

Puffalicious · 20/05/2021 18:31

I find the MN stock response of "I iron nothing" completely bizarre. I don't know anyone IRL who doesn't iron. I'd look a right state with formal work wear not ironed/ DCs uniform definitely needs it, as so their tshirts and hoodies (unless sports material). I draw the line at rugby/ sports kit. Bedding is also a joy fresh off the line and ironed. Out of all chores i like it the best: on my own keeping half an eye on a TV programme all for me/ a podcast- magic.

Saying all that if you don't want to iron, don't iron. It's your bloody decision, tell DM to keep her nose out.

BananaBoatFeet · 20/05/2021 18:33

Everything is ironed here as I think it makes a persons clothes and appearance look nicely finished.

Pinkpaisley · 20/05/2021 18:33

I only buy clothing that won’t need ironing.

Megan2018 · 20/05/2021 18:34

I don’t iron my clothes, let alone DD’s!

SimonJT · 20/05/2021 18:34

No, the cleaner does Blush

SteveBuscemisRheumyEye · 20/05/2021 18:37

@freakyfridays no offence taken at all! I don't spend that much time on MN (have no other social media), but I do take your point. Do you do it in the evenings? I guess after dinner, clearing up, bath and bed I just collapse on the sofa!

RavingAnnie · 20/05/2021 18:38

I can't remember the last time I got an iron out.

bishbashbosh99 · 20/05/2021 18:39

Ahhh so glad to see these answers as today I was feeling like a gross Mum. We don't iron unless a shirt for an occasion. 😄

sylv165 · 20/05/2021 18:41

I used to spend about 2hrs every Sunday ironing, including kids clothes. But DD2 is an absolute messer and tries to climb up the ironing board, pulls on the iron cord and runs away with the freshly ironed clothes making them all creased again 😩. I've had to stop and now only iron something if it absolutely needs it. I have to thank her really, she's made me realise I was wasting my life!!

JackRabbitSlimsTwistContest · 20/05/2021 18:42

Yes
I iron my kids clothes , all uniform items are ironed and set out every night for next school day

At the weekend I just keep to the same routine and iron their clothes the night before and set them out. I like us all to look neat and tidy and it makes just getting up and going out for the day a lot easier.

Iron DH work shirts daily and all my clothing too

GintyMcGinty · 20/05/2021 18:42

Yes I iron everything.

It looks much nicer and feels nicer to wear.

I hate seeing un-ironed clothes it looks like you can't be bothered.

minipie · 20/05/2021 18:43

Work shirts and Hama beads only here too

crosstalk · 20/05/2021 18:43

Grief. Can't believe people would iron if they couldn't just hang things up and crack on with more important things.

PegPeople · 20/05/2021 18:44

I find the MN stock response of "I iron nothing" completely bizarre. I don't know anyone IRL who doesn't iron.

How on earth would you know if they did or didn't though? I doubt any of my friends or previous colleagues knew I didn't iron, it's not exactly a topic that often comes up in conversation.

Whatthechicken · 20/05/2021 18:47

No, just DH’s shirts, which he irons because I once melted one of his collars. The iron does comes out when we put name labels in uniform, but next year I’m just going to use a biro on the label.

woodhill · 20/05/2021 18:49

Give her the stuff to iron if she doesn't like it.

My Dd doesn't even own an iron, none of my business

dementedpixie · 20/05/2021 18:49

I only iron their school clothes and dh's shirts. I dont iron anything else
woodhill · 20/05/2021 18:50

I do iron my stuff anyway

@GintyMcGinty

It's true, I can't be bothered wasting time ironing everything
