Do you iron all your kids clothes?

Had a 'heated' discussion with DM because she doesn't like the fact that I dont iron my DC2's clothes.

I used to iron DC1's as I had plenty of time on my hands but now with another child, a dog and a partner I just don't see it as an important job anymore.

Their clothes look fine, most things are tumbled and then hung straight up so they don't even look like they need an iron, never have I looked at my kids and thought oh god you can't tell I haven't ironed that and never has anybody beside DM ever mentioned it to me either.

@mytupenceworth that is dedication! I often make the bed and then look at it and think that needs a good iron but that's as far as I get 😁

Mine are 3. I don't routinely iron anything

megletthesecond · 20/05/2021 17:51

Nothing ever.

DS has started army cadets so I'll have to dig the iron out and we'll have to wing it.

sunlight81 · 20/05/2021 17:54

I dont iron my own clothes ... cats chance in hell of me doing DCs

picturesandpickles · 20/05/2021 17:54

Nope.
Every person aged 11+ years does their own ironing here, so they iron their own uniforms and nothing else gets ironed. They just don't wear the type of clothes that really need it.

ChocOrange1 · 20/05/2021 17:55

I haven't ironed anything for years.
I do own an iron, got it second hand because my daughter wanted to do Hama beads Grin

JerushaSturgis · 20/05/2021 17:57

Nope. Another ironless household here.

Passionfruitpizza · 20/05/2021 17:59

I don't iron anything. My kids wear T-shirt's, jeans, tracksuits, leggings. Nothing that needs ironing.

DistrictCommissioner · 20/05/2021 18:01

I don’t iron anything. Don’t own an iron.

LM20 · 20/05/2021 18:02

I iron all my clothes, all DP and all my children’s including jogging pants, hoodies etc. I can’t stand the thought of washing/drying and then hanging up without ironing... I am also the woman who fumes several times a week that she hates ironing for hours on end!

PremierSmeage · 20/05/2021 18:02

@NorthDowns

Everything gets ironed in this house. We’d look a right mess if I didn’t.

I must look a right mess then Grin

Icepops · 20/05/2021 18:04

I have never owned an iron and my kids clothes are lovely. Either line or tumble dry, nothing is ever creased!

CMOTDibbler · 20/05/2021 18:04

Nope. Ds can iron his stuff if he felt so moved. I don't buy anything that needs ironing (our washing machine has a de crease steam cycle I use occasionally), and dh only buys non iron shirts. He did used to iron some shirts but actually our iron needs throwing away as I noticed it was green inside when I saw it the other day.

Whitewolf2 · 20/05/2021 18:14

I’ve never ironed an item of my children’s clothing (or my own!)

Snakeprint · 20/05/2021 18:16

I iron nothing. Tell her to mind her oen or even better, she can do it.

ItWasntMyFault · 20/05/2021 18:22

I don't iron anything. If clothes are looking a bit creased they get put on and by the time we leave the house the creases have dropped out due to body heat.

PegPeople · 20/05/2021 18:24

I'm happy and content for us to leave the house looking like we would a short while later if we ironed.

Unless yourself and your children stand stock still from dawn to dusk then clothing will look worn at some point so why waste time ironing it in the first place.

I genuinely don't think my toddler would even know what an iron was for.

WorraLiberty · 20/05/2021 18:25

YANBU, I think the majority of washing machines and materials nowadays mean things rarely need ironing.

Having said that I've got 2 favourite work blouses that I have to iron before wearing as no matter how I wash/dry them, they'd look like screwed up tissue but that's about it.

I would never get rid of my iron as that would dictate that I couldn't buy certain clothes, even though I'd mostly choose not to anyway if they look like they'll take a lot of ironing.

KFleming · 20/05/2021 18:25

Nope, don’t routinely iron anything.

If your DM is so keen on it, she could do it?

RagzReturnsRebooted · 20/05/2021 18:27

Occasionally I iron DD's school tops if they look really creased, if they've been tumble dried they tend to be OK.
DS1 and DS2 (13&14) iron their own school shirts and anything else they want ironed.
I iron my work tops if they really need it, but I'm mostly wearing aprons at the moment anyway.

SteveBuscemisRheumyEye · 20/05/2021 18:28

Those that iron everything, when do you do it? There's just 3 of use but I can't see when I would fit it into my life?

I actually like ironing. I find it therapeutic

freakyfridays · 20/05/2021 18:28

Until they are teens, I don't iron any of my kids clothes! I dare your DM to have a look in their wardrobe and see any difference.

I iron adult shirts and a few Chinos. Nothing else needs it!

Beddings would look very marginally better possibly, but who's got time for that. If the cleaner has time, they are welcome to give it a go.

OodieWoodie · 20/05/2021 18:28

I iron school uniform but not their regular stuff. They live in joggers and t-shirts or sweat shirts, there is absolutely no point.

Royalbloo · 20/05/2021 18:28

Nope - it's like Hollyoaks (a waste of life) imo

Doyoumind · 20/05/2021 18:29

I do not iron.
